Player Outlook
Braxton Garrett missed the entirety of the 2025 season recovering from a UCL revision surgery which also required an internal brace in December. Garrett will be 14 months removed from surgery when pitchers and catchers report in 2026, but the last memories we have of him pitching was three impressive seasons of K-BB% with improving command. The 2024 ERA could be written off to an usustainable 60% left on base rate, but dreaming of an immediate return to 2023 production would be greedy. Garrett is more likely to come in somehwere closer to his 2022 numbers, which are good enough on the surface, but lack the volume necessary to be considered for mixed league draft day plans. NL-Only fantasy managers should take a flier in the end game.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Touching 95 mph in live BP

Garrett was touching 95 mph in a live batting practice session Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett missed the entire 2025 season after December 2024 internal brace surgery on his left elbow but has no restrictions at the beginning of camp. The left-hander averaged 90.7 mph with his four-seamer in 2024 and has never averaged more than 91.5 mph with the pitch, so the fact that he's already touching the mid-90s early on in spring training is a good sign. Garrett will likely have some kind of workload restrictions in 2026, but he should have a spot in the Marlins' rotation locked up.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Cleared for start of camp

Garrett (elbow) will be available to pitch this week as spring training gets underway, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The Marlins announced Wednesday that aside from Calvin Faucher -- who has yet to report to camp --and the rehabbing Ronny Henriquez (elbow), all pitchers on the 40-man roster are operating with no restrictions to begin camp. Garrett missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing elbow surgery with an internal brace in December 2024, but he told Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com that he threw "a couple" live bullpen sessions prior to reporting to camp and is scheduled to throw another one Wednesday. Since he's coming off a major injury, Garrett may be eased into Grapefruit League action, but the 28-year-old lefty should have a fairly clear path to an Opening Day rotation spot.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Expected to be full-go in camp

Garrett (elbow) isn't expected to have any restrictions when spring training begins, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett didn't pitch at all in 2025 while recovering from December 2024 elbow surgery that included an internal brace procedure. The 28-year-old southpaw had shown flashes of upside before that, including a shutout of the Diamondbacks in May 2024, and with the Marlins having traded Edward Cabrera and Ryan Weathers this offseason, the team is counting on Garrett to fill one of three openings in the rotation behind Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Avoids arbitration

The Marlins and Garrett (elbow) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.53 million contract Thursday, Fish on First reports. Garrett will receive the same salary for a second straight year after he missed all of the 2025 season following UCL revision surgery with an internal brace on his left elbow. The southpaw is a little over a year removed from the operation and it's unclear whether he will be ready in time for Opening Day.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Begins throwing program

Garrett (elbow) played catch Monday for the first time since having UCL revision surgery with an internal brace on his left elbow in December, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett took the first major step in what will be a lengthy rehab process. He will be sidelined for the entire 2025 season but could be ready in time for Opening Day in 2026 if he can avoid any setbacks in the coming months.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Goes to 60-day IL

The Marlins placed Garrett (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Cal Quantrill, who signed a one-year contract with the Marlins in a corresponding move. Garrett underwent UCL revision surgery with an internal brace on his left elbow in December and will be sidelined for the entire 2025 season.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Settles with Miami

The Marlins and Garrett (elbow) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett avoids an arbitration hearing in his first year of eligibility. He did not, however, avoid elbow surgery, as he underwent a UCL revision surgery with an internal brace last month that will sideline him for the entirety of the 2025 season.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Out for 2025 after UCL surgery

Garrett will miss the 2025 season after undergoing UCL revision surgery with an internal brace in December, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. Garrett made just seven starts for the Marlins during the 2024 season due to forearm and elbow problems and his UCL finally gave out. The left-hander had Tommy John surgery previously, so while the December operation was less invasive, it will still be a very lengthy rehab. If all goes well, it's possible Garrett is ready for the start of the 2026 season.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Dealing with elbow impingement

Garrett was diagnosed with a left elbow impingement last week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett missed multiple months of action with a strained left forearm before suffering a setback with his elbow during a bullpen session in September. He is currently going through a throwing progression at the Marlins' spring training complex in Florida, and the setback isn't considered something that will jeopardize his availability for the start of spring training.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Suffers setback

Manager Skip Schumaker said Saturday that Garrett experienced discomfort in his elbow during his latest bullpen session, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett has been on the injured list since June with a strained left forearm and recently made his third rehab appearance at Triple-A Jacksonville. However, his latest elbow setback may put a dent in his plans to return to Miami before the end of the season. The Marlins will take the lefty in for an MRI, the results of which will help determine whether he can pitch again in 2024.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Throws live BP

Garrett (forearm) threw a two innings of live batting practice Saturday, MLB.com reports. The southpaw was expected to toss around 35 pitches in the workout Saturday, though the Marlins haven't disclosed how Garrett came out of the throwing session. Garrett looks as though he'll have a chance to pitch again for the Marlins in 2024, but he may not have enough time to get fully stretched back out for a starting role. Whether he returns as a starter or reliever, Garrett will likely need to complete at least one or two minor-league rehab appearances before being activated from the 60-day injured list.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Resumes throwing program

Garrett (forearm) has began playing catch, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett will finally resume a throwing program after being placed on the injured list June 23 with a strained left forearm. The 26-year-old was deemed asymptomatic last week but spent several days focusing on strengthening his forearm before starting to throw. Garrett still has several checkpoints to complete before being activated and shouldn't be expected back for several weeks.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Begins rehab process

Garrett is considered asymptomatic while he continues to rehab his strained left forearm at the Marlins' facility in Jupiter, Fla., MLB.com reports. Garrett -- who was placed on the injured list June 23 -- is focused on strengthening his forearm for now before he kicks off a throwing program. The southpaw still looks to be multiple weeks away from a return, and given their place in the standings, the 33-63 Marlins are in no hurry to bring Garrett back.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Placed on injured list

The Marlins placed Garrett on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a left forearm flexor strain. The Marlins announced Saturday that Garrett wouldn't start as scheduled Sunday against the Mariners after he reported soreness in his left elbow. After further examination, the team has uncovered a strain in his left forearm, which will cause him to miss a few extra turns through the rotation. Kyle Tyler was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move to start Sunday's contest.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Won't start Sunday

Garrett was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday due to left elbow discomfort, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garrett reported having problems in his elbow following a bullpen session Friday, so the Marlins will play it safe and hold him out of Sunday's contest. The 26-year-old southpaw will undergo further testing, and the results will help determine if he needs to spend some time on the injured list. Miami has not yet named a replacement starter for Sunday.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Hurls quality start Monday

Garrett struck out six and allowed one run on five hits and no walks over six innings in a no-decision during Monday's extra-innings loss to the Cardinals. Garrett served up a solo homer to Mike Siani in the fifth inning that turned out to be his only mistake in an otherwise stellar showing. The left-hander didn't issue a walk, making it the fourth time in his seven starts this season that he didn't allow a free pass. The 26-year-old has been inconsistent, as he has allowed four or more earned runs in four of his starts but has given up just two total runs in his other three appearances.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Struggles against Mets

Garrett (2-2) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits and no walks while striking out four batters over 4.2 innings. Garrett was tagged by Harrison Bader for a two-run homer in the first inning, and he gave up three more runs in the second. The left-hander settled down a bit from there, but he was pulled with two outs in the fifth inning after serving up a solo shot to Starling Marte. It was the second straight start during which Garrett was unable to complete five frames -- he went just 2.2 innings versus Tampa Bay in his previous appearance. Garrett was great in back-to-back starts May 24 and 29, allowing just one run over 14 frames. However, he's given up at least four earned runs in each of his other four outings and has a poor 6.10 ERA overall this season.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Not sharp versus Mets

Garrett took a no-decision Saturday against the Mets, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out five. Garrett looked out of sorts from the jump, hitting two batters with pitches while allowing three hits and two runs in the first inning. He started to settle in a bit after that, but Garrett was pulled with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth and then watched all three inherited runners cross the plate. We've seen two straight duds from Garrett since he's come off the injured list. Better days are surely ahead, but it will be difficult for fantasy managers to trust him next week in Arizona.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Strikes out 13 in rehab start

Garrett (shoulder) struck out 13 batters and allowed one hit and one walk over 5.2 scoreless innings in his rehab start Monday for the Marlins' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate. Though he was facing off against a lineup consisting mostly of teenage hitters, Garrett was dominant nonetheless in what was likely his fifth and final minor-league rehab start. Garrett, who has been on the 15-day injured list all season while recovering from a left shoulder impingement, will likely be activated this weekend to start Saturday or Sunday versus the Phillies for what will be his 2024 debut with the Marlins.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Five scoreless in rehab start

Garrett (shoulder) allowed one hit and three walks while striking out three over five scoreless innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. Garrett got his pitch count up to 61 and averaged 90.7 miles per hour with his sinker, which is right in line with his normal velocity. Wednesday's outing should be the left-hander's final tune-up before he returns from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut with the Marlins. Garrett, who has been sidelined with a shoulder impingement and more recently went through a "dead arm" phase, tentatively lines up to start Monday versus the Dodgers on the road.
