  • Twins' Daniel Gossett: Signs with Twins

Gossett signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Thursday.

Gossett made 20 appearances (18 starts) for Triple-A Worcester in 2021 and recorded a 4.22 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 98 innings. He hasn't appeared in the big leagues since he made five starts for the Athletics in 2018, but he'll likely serve as a non-roster invitee if spring training occurs in 2022.

  • Red Sox's Daniel Gossett: Sent to minors

The Red Sox reassigned Gossett to their minor-league camp Wednesday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Gossett is expected to serve as organizational rotation depth for the Red Sox at Triple-A Worcester to begin the season. Before missing the entire 2019 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, the 28-year-old righty made 23 starts at the big-league level with Oakland between the 2017 and 2018 seasons, logging a 5.91 ERA over 115.2 innings.

  • Red Sox's Daniel Gossett: Lands with Red Sox

Gossett signed a minor-league deal with the Red Sox on Monday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Gossett was originally drafted by the Red Sox but elected to go to college instead. He's spent his entire professional career thus far as a member of the Athletics' organization, posting a 5.91 ERA in 23 starts at the big-league level. He hasn't pitched at any level since suffering an elbow injury early in the 2018 season which wound up requiring Tommy John surgery. There's certainly a chance he finds his way to a rotation spot in Boston this year, but the surgery and the lack of a track record at the highest level mean expectations should be rather low.

  • Daniel Gossett: Let go by Athletics

Gossett was released by Oakland on Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Gossett last pitched back in June of 2018, missing the next season and a half due to Tommy John surgery. He's seemingly healthy now, as he was part of the Athletics' player pool, but he was designated for assignment Wednesday and is now no longer part of the organization in any capacity. Gossett recorded an unimpressive 5.91 ERA in 23 career major-league starts prior to the injury, so he's unlikely to have too many suitors on the open market.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Loses 40-man spot

The Athletics designated Gossett for assignment Wednesday.

Gossett's removal from the 40-man roster frees up a spot for Daniel Mengden (elbow), who was activated from the 45-day injured list in a corresponding move. The 27-year-old Gossett didn't pitch at any level in 2019 while recovering from August 2018 Tommy John surgery, but he's been fully healthy since the start of spring training. Gossett previously made 23 starts for the Athletics between 2017 and 2018, going 4-14 with a 5.91 ERA and 6.5 K/9.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Joins 60-player pool

Gossett was named to Oakland's 60-man roster pool Sunday.

Nearly four months after being optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas, Gossett will now report to Oakland when the team resumes workouts July 4 thanks to the expanded roster. Even though Gossett is back with the big club, the Athletics' decision to cut him early in spring training seemingly hints that the 27-year-old won't be in line for any sort of meaningful role to begin the 2020 season. Expect him to serve as a long-relief/mop-up option out of the bullpen.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Optioned to Triple-A

Gossett was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

The 27-year-old was one of six total pitchers removed from the Athletics' active roster Thursday. Entering spring training, Gossett had not pitched during a live game since being removed from a start June 3 and undergoing a successful Tommy John surgery. It's been a long road back for the right hander, who owned an impressive 1.63 ERA with 42 strikeouts across 38.2 innings with Triple-A Nashville in 2018.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Successful live BP session

Gossett (elbow) threw a 30-pitch live batting practice session Friday at High-A Stockton, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. "Just getting back into it, getting back to facing hitters," Gossett said. "I got to throw all my pitches and got some swings and misses on a couple of breaking balls. It was fun to get back in the swing of what a game would feel like."

The session marked Gossett's first taste of facing live hitters since August 2018 Tommy John surgery. The rehabbing veteran is slated to throw several more live batting practice sessions before eventually progressing to simulated games, and if all continues to go well, he plans on playing in the Arizona Fall League to continue building up his arm ahead of spring training 2020.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Throwing live batting practice

Gossett will throw live batting practice Friday with High-A Stockton, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Gossett has been throwing bullpen sessions since mid-June but this will be his first time facing live hitters since undergoing Tommy John surgery in August 2018. The 26-year-old isn't expected to make his return in 2019, but he appears to be progressing steadily in his rehab work.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Throws bullpen session

Gossett (elbow) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session prior to Saturday's game, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The session was especially notable in that it was Gossett's first time back on a mound since he underwent Tommy John surgery in August 2018. Manager Bob Melvin still doesn't factor Gossett into his 2019 plans, but he also reported that the veteran impressed him with his effort level during the session. Gossett is likely to log several additional bullpens before potentially moving on to throwing live batting practice.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Bumps up throwing distance

Gossett (elbow) has resumed throwing off flat ground from 120 feet, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Gossett underwent Tommy John surgery last August, with the timing of the procedure making it unlikely he would be able to pitch at any point in 2019. That still remains a strong possibility, but Gossett's ability to initiate a throwing program this spring theoretically gives him a shot at returning in the second half. Gossett is probably at least a few months away from facing hitters in a simulated-game situation, an activity that would provide a better barometer regarding how he's trending in his recovery.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Shifted to IL

Gossett (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

This is simply procedural, as Gossett is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2019 campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent last summer.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: To undergo Tommy John surgery

Gossett (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Wednesday.

Gossett will likely miss the entire 2019 season recovering from this injury after suffering a setback during his rehab earlier this month. The 25-year-old had started five games for the Athletics this season, logging a 5.18 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Suffers setback

Gossett (elbow) suffered a setback during his rehab and has been shut down from all throwing activities, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Gossett had recently resumed throwing last week after hitting the disabled list with a flexor muscle strain in early June. The club has yet to announce any sort of timetable for him at this point, but it doesn't look like Gossett has much chance of returning prior to September, especially if he's shut down for a few weeks.

  • Athletics' Daniel Gossett: Shifts to 60-day DL

The Athletics transferred Gossett to the 60-day disabled list Saturday.

The transaction was strictly procedural, as Gossett has been sidelined since early June and wasn't on track to rejoin the Athletics in fewer than 60 days. At this point in his rehab, Gossett has progressed to throwing off flat ground, but he has several hurdles to clear in the recovery process before being an option for the Oakland rotation.
