Giants' Kyle Harrison: Season likely over
Giants manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that Harrison (shoulder) is unlikely to be activated from the 15-day injured list before the season ends Sept. 29, MLB.com reports.
Though the left shoulder inflammation that sent Harrison to the IL on Sept. 6 has been deemed mild following an MRI, the young southpaw won't be asked to ramp back up with little time left in the season. Harrison had already logged a career-high 124.1 innings prior to being deactivated, which is likely a factor in the organization's decision to shut him down. Over his 24 starts this season, Harrison went 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 118:42 K:BB.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Placed on IL with shoulder injury
The Giants placed Harrison on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Wednesday, due to left shoulder inflammation.
Harrison was roughed up in his last outing Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, when he allowed six runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three over 2.2 innings. He's given up 11 runs over his last two starts, and since the beginning of August he's posted a 7.76 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 26.2 frames. Harrison will be eligible to return from the IL in mid-September, though it's unclear whether the injury is severe enough to shut the 23-year-old southpaw down for the rest of the season. Austin Warren was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Lit up for six runs
Harrison (7-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over 2.2 innings.
Harrison was roughed up for a second straight outing and Tuesday's start was his shortest of the season. The Diamondbacks scored multiple runs in all three innings Harrison worked, which included a two-run homer by Randal Grichuk in the opening frame. Harrison has now allowed 11 runs over his last 7.1 innings and has just two quality starts since the beginning of July. For the year, he owns a 4.56 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 118:42 K:BB in 124.1 innings and lines up to face the Padres on the road over the weekend.

Giants' Kyle Harrison: Unravels in fifth inning
Harrison (7-6) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Brewers.
Harrison had his last start skipped, and it appeared for a while that the extra rest had served him well. That changed in a rough fifth inning, which saw Harrison surrender five runs before he was pulled with two outs. The southpaw has given up 17 runs over 24 innings across five starts in August, a span that's seen him yield seven home runs. He's now at a 4.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 115:41 K:BB through 121.2 innings over 23 starts this year. He's already past his previous high of 113 innings in a season, set back in 2022, and if the Giants drop much further out of the playoff race, there's a chance Harrison could be shut down at some point in September. He's tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks.
