  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Might not be lock for rotation

Pallante could be competing for the final spot in the Cardinals' rotation, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Pallante entered camp as a favorite for a starting role, but with Michael McGreevy pitching well and the team leaning toward using Steven Matz in the rotation, it appears there's a chance Pallante could get squeezed out. That still seems highly unlikely, given that the 26-year-old was one of the team's best starters for a large chunk of last season. Pallante's velocity has been down, but the Cardinals don't seem concerned at this stage of the spring.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Three scoreless, but velo down

Pallante permitted one hit and struck out a pair over three scoreless frames in Tuesday's Grapefruit League outing against the Mets.

The bottom line was much improved from Pallante's first spring start when he allowed four runs and walked two in an inning of work. However, Pallante has yet to find the pep on his fastball this spring, with the velocity on his four-seamer down 1.7 mph from last year and the velocity on his sinker down 2.4 mph. It's not overly worrisome yet in early March, but it's something to keep an eye on.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Emerges victorious in arbitration

Pallante will receive a $2.1 million salary for 2025 after winning his arbitration hearing against the Cardinals on Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

The Cardinals had filed for a $1.925 million salary for Pallante, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time. Pallante submitted a weak 9.0 K-BB% over 121.1 innings across his 29 appearances (20 starts) in 2024, but thanks to his ability to keep the ball on the ground and generate weak contact, most of his ERA estimators (4.15 SIERA, 3.89 xFIP, 3.46 xERA) were roughly in line with his actual ERA (3.78). He should have a firm grasp on a full-time rotation spot in 2025, though his poor strikeout rate will likely make him less valuable in fantasy leagues than in real life.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Takes no-decision Saturday

Pallante allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Saturday. He did not issue a walk.

Pallante worked in and out of trouble but still managed to complete five innings for a ninth straight start. Pallante has closed the season strong with a 2.98 ERA over those last nine starts. The 26-year-old has made a strong case to be a key piece to the Cardinals' pitching staff with a 3.78 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 121.1 innings this season.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Rolls through Guardians

Pallante (8-8) yielded one run on a hit and two walks over seven innings Sunday, striking out four and earning a win against Cleveland.

Pallante kept the Guardians off the board through five innings before finally coughing up a run in the sixth. It was his second straight seven-inning performance after failing to complete six frames in each of his previous three outings. He registered a 13:3 K:BB while allowing only one run and earning a pair of wins in his last two starts. Pallante lowered his season ERA to 3.71 with a 90:48 K:BB through 116.1 innings. He's scheduled to wrap up his 2024 season with a start in San Francisco this weekend.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Outduels Skenes in win

Pallante (7-8) got the win Monday against the Pirates, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out nine over seven scoreless innings.

Pallante was stellar on Monday as he shut down the Pirates over seven innings -- his second career start of seven or more shutout innings. Pallante also recorded a career-high nine strikeouts in the process. The 25-year-old has been a serviceable option for the Cardinals since being inserted into the rotation May 29. He's pitched to a 3.62 ERA in 99.1 innings as a starter this season.
