Yankees' Michael Hermosillo: Sent packing from big-league camp
The Yankees reassigned Hermosillo to minor-league camp Wednesday.
Even with Harrison Bader (oblique) on track to open the season on the injured list, Hermosillo didn't make enough of an impression while attending camp as a non-roster invitee to convince the Yankees he was worthy of bringing aboard as a depth option in center field to begin the campaign. The 28-year-old, who slashed .115/.250/.148 across 73 plate appearances with the Cubs in 2022, is expected to report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Outrighted to Triple-A
Hermosillo cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Hermosillo was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Tuesday, but he'll remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. The 27-year-old struggled in the majors this year, hitting just .115 with two doubles, seven runs, four RBI and a stolen base over 31 games.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Dropped from 40-man roster
Hermosillo was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Tuesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Swipes first bag
Hermosillo went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in a 3-2 win Thursday in Pittsburgh.
Starting in center field for the seventh time in the Cubs' last eight games, Hermosillo recorded his first multi-hit performance of the season. He singled and scored in the second and had an RBI single and a stolen base in the seventh. The 27-year-old is 5-for-27 with three walks since returning from a quad injury Sept. 8. He's likely to continue getting opportunities for the Cubs as the season winds down, especially until Seiya Suzuki (paternity) returns from the restricted list.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Sits after six straight starts
Hermosillo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
Hermosillo will head to the bench after going 2-for-17 at the dish while starting each of the past six games in center field. Nelson Velazquez still looks like the primary threat to Hermosillo's everyday role in the outfield, but both players will be on the bench Wednesday while Christopher Morel gets the starting nod in center.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Nabs fifth straight start
Hermosillo will start in center field and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Marlins.
Due to Rafael Ortega suffering a season-ending finger injury last week in addition to Seiya Suzuki missing a game due to a hand/wrist injury before he landed on the paternity list Saturday, Hermosillo has seen an uptick in playing time. He'll pick up his fifth straight start Monday, despite going 2-for-13 over the prior four contests. Once Suzuki is back in action, Hermosillo will likely cede work in center field to Nelson Velazquez.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Back from injured list
Hermosillo (quad) was activated from the injured list Tuesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
The Cubs used almost all of the 20 days allotted after the beginning of Hermosillo's rehab assignment, and they ultimately added him back to the roster Tuesday. He joins a roster with all kinds of options in the outfield, and most of his at-bats figure to come against left-handed pitchers.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Moving rehab to Triple-A
Hermosillo (quadriceps) will shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.
He's expected to play 7-to-9 innings in the outfield for Iowa and will presumably remain with the affiliate through the weekend before the Cubs determine if he's ready to come off the 60-day injured list. Hermosillo, who has been on the shelf since May 10 with the left quad strain, went 3-for-14 with two stolen bases during the first four games of his rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Heads out on rehab assignment
Hermosillo (quad) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
It has taken Hermosillo a while to recover from the quad injury that landed him on the injured list in early May, but he is ready to resume playing in games. He will have a chance to rejoin the Cubs before August comes to a close.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Moves to 60-day IL
Hermosillo (quadriceps) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
Hermosillo has been sidelined since May 8 by a quadriceps strain, and Thursday's transaction shouldn't significantly alter his return timetable since he'll be able to return as early as the second weekend in July. The 27-year-old progressed to taking live batting practice next week, and he'll likely be able to begin a rehab assignment soon.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Advances to live BP
Hermosillo (quadriceps) is scheduled to take live batting practice Thursday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Hermosillo has recently been able to take part in running, throwing and hitting drills without experiencing any setbacks, and he'll hit another meaningful benchmark in his recovery from the left quad strain by facing live pitching. The 27-year-old is without a clear timeline to return from the 10-day injured list, and because he won't be in line for an everyday role once activated, the Cubs could take their time with Hermosillo and send him out on an extended rehab assignment once he's deemed ready for game action.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Moves back to 10-day injured list
Hermosillo (quadriceps) was transferred from the COVID-19 injured list to the 10-day injured list Saturday, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
It's been a rough few weeks for Hermosillo, who strained his left quadriceps in early May and then came down with COVID-19 in shortly after. He's evidently over the virus but is still unable to play due to the quadriceps injury. It's unclear when he's expected to return.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Shifts to COVID-19 IL
Hermosillo (quadriceps) was transferred to the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Hermosillo landed on the 10-day IL last week with a strained left quad, but he's now been moved to the COVID-19 IL. The 27-year-old isn't expected to resume baseball activities for at least a couple weeks, so he'll return to the regular injured list once he clears the COVID protocols.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Out with quad strain
Hermosillo was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left quadriceps strain. The move is retroactive to May 8.
Hermosillo hasn't seen the field since going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts during Saturday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, and he'll now be sidelined by the quad injury. According to Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, the 27-year-old won't resume baseball activities for at least a few weeks, so he'll be on the shelf for more than a month.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Picks up start
Hermosillo is starting in center field and batting eighth in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is starting lefty Clayton Kershaw, so the Cubs will send both Rafael Ortega and Jason Heyward to the bench, at least to begin the game. Hermosillo hasn't done much at the plate so far this season with just a .083/.290/.125 slash line across 24 at-bats.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Rough day at plate Saturday
Hermosillo went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in Saturday's loss to the Brewers.
Hermosillo struggled in this one, which has been a theme this season, as he's now batting just .083 through 24 at-bats. The 27-year-old theoretically makes up the short side of a platoon with Jason Heyward in center field, but his struggles could cost him playing time moving forward. Rafael Ortega is also in the mix in center, making it a messy situation for fantasy managers.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Starting Sunday
Hermosillo is starting in center field and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Rockies.
Rafael Ortega and Jason Heyward will get the day off against Colorado lefty Austin Gomber, allowing Hermosillo to slide into center. So far, Hermosillo has been on the smaller side of a platoon with the other two outfielders, as he's recorded only seven at-bats so far this season. The 27-year-old will be looking for his first hit of the year Sunday.

Cubs' Michael Hermosillo: Option for platoon in center
Hermosillo could work on the weak side of a center field platoon with Jason Heyward this season, with Rafael Ortega also in the mix, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Heyward, who is playing center after the arrival of Seiya Suzuki in right, is the most veteran option. Ortega, meanwhile, had a breakout 2021 season, but both he and Heyward bat left handed. That could allow the right-handed Hermosillo to slide into a platoon role and face lefty pitchers. The 27-year-old appeared in 16 games for the Cubs last year, slashing .194/.237/.500. He won't be a fantasy factor unless his role expands.
