The Pirates designated Bruihl for assignment Sunday.
Pittsburgh will move Bruihl off its 40-man roster to open up a spot for right-handed reliever Brent Honeywell, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Indianapolis prior to Sunday's game against the Mets. Before he was optioned to Indianapolis on June 27, Bruihl made seven relief appearances for the Pirates, giving up six earned runs on nine hits and one walk over 5.2 innings.

The 26-year-old southpaw has given up four earned runs in 5.1 big-league innings this season, though he owns a 2.22 ERA and 1.07 WHIP through 24.1 frames in the minors. He'll be used in middle relief while with the Pirates.

The Pirates signed Bruihl to a one-year contract Thursday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Bruihl had been at Triple-A Louisville with the Reds until being released earlier this week in what was presumably an opt-out situation. The left-handed reliever collected a 2.31 ERA and 24:10 K:BB over 23.1 innings with Louisville. The Pirates will announce a corresponding move later Thursday.

The Reds reassigned Bruihl to minor-league camp Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Bruihl is expected to report to Triple-A Louisville to begin the season and will serve as organizational relief depth. He made 27 appearances at the big-league level in 2023 between the Dodgers and Rockies, pitching to a 5.46 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 28 innings.
