  • Reds' Joey Wiemer: Called up to big leagues

The Reds recalled Wiemer from Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. Acquired Monday as part of the deal that sent right-hander Frankie Montas to Milwaukee, Wiemer will get the chance to make his Reds debut as he joins the team ahead of its series finale with the Giants. Wiemer likely won't be in line for a long-term stay in Cincinnati, however, as fellow outfielder Will Benson (personal) was placed on the paternity list in a corresponding move and will be away from the team for only 1-to-3 games. The 25-year-old Wiemer has spent the bulk of the season at the Triple-A level, slashing .230/.371/.340 with three home runs and seven stolen bases in 55 games between Nashville and Louisville.

The outfielder has compiled a .224 average with three home runs, 20 RBI, 27 runs scored and six stolen bases over 236 plate appearances in 53 games with Triple-A Nashville this season. The Brewers activated Wiemer (knee) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Wiemer has missed most of May with a left knee strain but is ready to roll after a brief rehab assignment. He will provide outfield depth for the Brewers and could draw the occasional start against left-handers.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Begins rehab assignment

Wiemer (knee) went 1-for-3 with a run scored in his first rehab game with Triple-A Nashville on Thursday. Wiemer has been out since early May with a left knee strain but has made enough progress to test things out in a game setting. Because he hasn't missed much time, Wiemer's rehab assignment shouldn't last more than a few days.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Facing 2-to-3-week absence

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Sunday that Wiemer (knee) is expected to be sidelined for 2-to-3 weeks, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Milwaukee placed Wiemer on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a strained popliteus muscle in his left knee, an injury he suffered in Friday's win over the Cubs. While Wiemer will be sidelined for beyond the minimum 10 days, he won't require surgery and will be able to treat the injury with rest and rehab. Once he completes his rehab assignment and is activated from the IL, Wiemer could be optioned to Triple-A Nashville, depending on the overall health of the Milwaukee outfield.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Fine after early removal

Wiemer was not injured during Thursday's Cactus League game against the White Sox despite leaving the game early, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Wiemer was shaken up a bit on a play near the outfield wall in the third inning and walked into the Brewers' clubhouse with a trainer after striking out in the top of the fourth, but his removal doesn't appear to have been injury-related. Wiemer was scheduled to make an early exit from the game anyway in order to travel to Las Vegas for Milwaukee's upcoming exhibition game against the Athletics. The 25-year-old outfielder has struggled to get going at the plate this spring, managing just four hits in 23 at-bats while striking out nine times.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Playing time trending down

Wiemer is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. Wiemer has operated as Milwaukee's primary center fielder for most of the season, but he'll sit Sunday for the sixth time in the past eight games, with both of those starts coming against left-handed pitchers. It appears the 24-year-old will now have to settle for a spot on the small side of a platoon in center field. Sal Frelick is dealing with a hamstring injury, so it'll be Christian Yelich, Tyrone Taylor and Mark Canha starting from left to right in the outfield.
