  • Nationals' James Wood: Big day in Cleveland

Wood went 3-for-4 with a walk, a two-run home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Guardians. Getting the start in left field, Wood took Joey Cantillo deep in the second inning -- just his third homer of the season off a southpaw, compared to 11 against right-handed pitching. Wood has racked up three or more hits in four of the last nine games, slashing a blistering .444/.535/.750 over that stretch with two doubles, three long balls, two steals, eight RBI and 10 runs.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Homers during four-hit night

Wood went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 10-2 win over Cleveland. Wood wasted no time making an impact, leading off the game with a 412-foot homer off Tanner Bibee as part of the Nationals' five-homer barrage against the right-hander. The four-hit performance tied a season high for the young star, who continues to be one of the hottest hitters in baseball. Wood has now reached base safely in 10 of his last 11 games while batting .395 (17-for-43) with eight walks during that stretch. On the season, he is slashing .267/.405/.533 with 14 home runs, 14 doubles, 35 RBI, 47 runs scored and eight stolen bases.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Logs eighth steal of season

Wood went 0-for-2 with two walks, a steal and a run scored during Washington's 2-1 win over Atlanta on Sunday. Wood drew a walk and stole second base in the eighth inning before being brought home two batters later on an RBI single by Luis Garcia. It was the eighth steal of the season for Wood, who is on track to surpass his 2025 total of 15 stolen bases. He has reached base safely in nine of his last 10 games, and over that span he has gone 13-for-38 (.342) with one home run, five RBI, nine runs scored and an 8:9 BB:K.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Inside-the-park grand slam in win

Wood went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and an additional run scored during the Nationals' 9-6 win over the Mets on Tuesday. With the bases loaded in the second inning, Wood drove a ball deep to left-center field that barely glanced off the mitt of a leaping Nick Morabito. The ball trickled out to center field, and that was enough for Wood to hustle around the bases for the first grand slam of his major-league career, albeit in an unconventional matter. Wood has logged three hits in back-to-back games and is up to 13 home runs on the season, which leads the Nationals and is tied with Drake Baldwin (oblique) and Jordan Walker for the third-best total in the National League.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Three hits in loss Monday

Wood went 3-for-6 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, a walk and two strikeouts in Monday's extra-innings loss to the Mets. Wood delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning, but by that time, the game was already out of reach for the Nationals. The star outfielder notched his 13th double and 30th RBI of the season in this loss, and he also extended his hitting streak to four games. He's hitting .274 with an .851 OPS in 16 games since the beginning of May, tallying two homers, six RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases over that stretch.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Homers in loss

Wood went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, a walk and an additional run scored in Saturday's 8-7 loss to the Marlins. Wood led off the game with a 442-foot blast and was a consistent contributor in a losing effort. Over his past 10 games, the 23-year-old has posted four multi-hit performances, five extra-base hits, eight runs scored and seven RBI. For the year, he's slashing .243/.395/.526 with 11 homers, 28 RBI, 35 runs scored and seven steals across 190 plate appearances.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Swipes two bags in Wednesday's rout

Wood went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases in Wednesday's win over the Twins. Both steals came against the battery of Bailey Ober and Victor Caratini, as Wood improved to a 7-for-8 showing on the basepaths this season. The 23-year-old's bat has gone a little cold, however -- he hasn't homered in 11 straight games, a stretch in which he's slashing .200/.347/.250 with two doubles, six runs and six RBI.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Power surge continues Wednesday

Wood went 2-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's loss to Atlanta. The 23-year-old slugger has gone yard four times in the last six games, including a 413-foot shot off southpaw Martin Perez in the sixth inning Wednesday that cleared the visitors' bullpen in left-center field at Nationals Park. After a tepid start to the season, Wood is slashing a massive .339/.506/.774 over his last 17 games with eight of his nine homers on the year, along with four steals, 17 RBI and 21 runs.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Homers, reaches five times Tuesday

Wood went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, four walks and three runs scored in Tuesday's 11-4 win over Atlanta. Wood led off the first inning with a walk, and Atlanta starter Reynaldo Lopez eventually needed 46 pitches to record his first three outs. Wood then tagged Lopez for a leadoff homer in the second inning. Perhaps most impressively, Wood didn't strike out Tuesday, marking just the third time he's accomplished that in a game this season, as he entered play with a league-high 36 punchouts. The 23-year-old is now slashing .242/.390/.558 with eight homers, 18 RBI, 23 runs scored, four stolen bases and a 21:36 BB:K across 118 plate appearances. Wood has drawn multiple walks in six of 24 games and has reached base safely in 20 of 24 contests.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Homers, scores thrice Saturday

Wood went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, hit-by-pitch, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Giants. Wood led off the game with a solo homer against Adrian Houser and was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second inning. Wood has now homered in back-to-back games and has seven on the season, with six of those long balls coming over his last 13 contests. On the season, Wood is slashing .256/.385/.570 with seven long balls, 18 RBI, 20 runs scored, four stolen bases and a 16:33 BB:K across 104 plate appearances.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Smacks homer in win

Wood went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks and two runs scored during Sunday's 8-6 win over the Brewers. One day after lighting up the Brewers to the tune of four hits and an RBI, Wood followed that up by reaching base three times, including a fourth-inning homer to tie the game at one. It was the 23-year-old's fifth homer of the season and also his 14th RBI, a mark tied for seventh in MLB. His .274/.392/.613 slash line is also evidence of the hot start the young outfielder is enjoying to begin the 2026 campaign.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Four-hit night against Milwaukee

Wood went 4-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Brewers. Wood doubled off left-hander Aaron Ashby to lead off the game and then scored on a Curtis Mead single. Wood then singled in the sixth and eighth innings before driving home a run with his second double of the game in the ninth. After a slow start to the season, Wood has been one of the league's hottest hitters over the past week. He's now slashing .268/.359/.571 with five doubles, four home runs, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored, one stolen base and an 8:19 BB:K across 56 plate appearances. Wood's 33.9 percent strikeout rate is still too high, but he's doing damage when he does put the ball in play.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Belts another homer Monday

Wood went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, two walks and an additional run scored in Monday's win over St. Louis. That's now back-to-back games with a homer for the 23-year-old outfielder, who also tallied his first multi-hit effort of the campaign Monday. Wood is starting to emerge from what's been a bit of a sluggish start -- he's hitting just .163 but has three long balls, nine RBI and three doubles over his first 43 at-bats. Wood also hasn't even attempted to steal a base yet after swiping 15 bags a year ago, so fantasy managers are hoping to see him start running soon.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Launches first homer of 2026

Wood went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 10-2 loss to the Cubs. Hitting leadoff against right-hander Cade Horton, Wood took the Chicago hurler deep in the fourth inning of what proved to be a rout. It was the 23-year-old outfielder's first hit of the season as he's struggled to find his rhythm at the plate, going 1-for-9 with five strikeouts over the Nationals' first two games.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Struggling at plate this spring

Wood went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets. The young slugger also struck out in the fourth inning against Carl Edwards, his ninth K in 29 plate appearances this spring to go along with a .083 batting average (2-for-24). However, Wood has drawn five free passes, and a poor showing in a small sample during March isn't cause for much alarm. Wood is coming off a 2025 campaign in which he launched 31 homers with 94 RBI and 15 steals over 157 games while slashing .256/.350/.475.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Homers twice Wednesday

Wood went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Wednesday's 4-3 win over Atlanta. Wood has gone 4-for-7 with three homers and, notably, no strikeouts in his last two games. He'd gone 15-for-75 (.200) with a 42.9 percent strikeout rate in his previous 19 contests. Overall, the 23-year-old Wood is slashing .256/.352/.475 with 30 homers, 92 RBI, 86 runs scored and 15 stolen bases through 676 plate appearances this season.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Sitting out second game

Wood is not in the lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Atlanta. Wood went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts as the Nationals' fell in the first game of the twin bill, and he'll get a breather during the nightcap. Daylen Lile is in left field and Josh Bell is at designated hitter for the Nats.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Launches three-run homer amid slump

Wood went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 9-3 win over the Mets. Wood socked his 26th homer of the season and piled up at least three RBI for the ninth time this year. Fantasy managers are hoping Thursday's showing will get the dynamic outfielder back on track, considering it's been an icy stretch at the plate since the start of July for Wood. Across his last 41 contests, Wood is slashing .203/.280/.329 with four homers, eight doubles, 19 RBI and four stolen bases.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Launches homer No. 25

Wood went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Giants. The young outfielder took Carson Whisenhunt deep for a solo shot in the first inning, the first of three Washington long balls on the afternoon. Wood snapped a 21-game power drought with the blast, a stretch in which he'd slashed a miserable .113/.211/.150 with a 42.2 percent strikeout rate. While that slump dragged his numbers down, on the season Wood still has 25 homers, 14 steals, 64 runs and 73 RBI in 114 contests with an .841 OPS.

  • Nationals' James Wood: Day off amid slump

Wood is out of the lineup for Monday's contest in Houston. Wood struck out in four of five plate appearances in Sunday's win over the Twins and has gone 4-for-46 with 26 strikeouts over his last 12 games. Daylen Lile will shift over to left field and Alex Call will receive a start in right field Monday while Wood gets a day off to regroup.
