Tigers' Tyler Mattison: Removed from 40-man roster
The Tigers designated Mattison for assignment Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Mattison was added to the 40-man roster last November, but he finds himself on the other side of Rule 5 cutdown day this time around. The right-hander has yet to make his major-league debut. He pitched mostly between Double-A and Triple-A this past season after recovering from right UCL reconstruction surgery.

Tigers' Tyler Mattison: Off injured list
Mattison (elbow) was reinstated from Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list Saturday, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reports.
Mattison's recovery from Tommy John surgery is officially complete, as he's been activated from the Triple-A injured list 15 months after the procedure. The 25-year-old made nine appearances between Single-A and High-A during his rehab assignment, and he allowed seven runs with a 9:8 K:BB across 10.1 innings.

Tigers' Tyler Mattison: In midst of rehab assignment
Mattison (elbow) made the second appearance of his rehab assignment Sunday with High-A West Michigan, striking out a batter and allowing one hit over a scoreless inning of relief.
Mattison has been on Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list all season while recovering from March 2024 Tommy John surgery, but he appears to be closing in on his 2025 debut with the Tigers' top minor-league affiliate. After tossing a scoreless inning in his first rehab appearance with Single-A Lakeland on Wednesday, Mattison bumped up a level Sunday. He could make a few more appearances with West Michigan or Double-A Erie before slotting into Toledo's bullpen.

Tigers' Tyler Mattison: Slated for live batting practice
Mattison (elbow) will throw a live batting practice session Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Mattison is ready to face hitters as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. The 25-year-old has yet to pitch in the majors, but he's on the 40-man roster and could be an option for the Tigers' bullpen by June or so.
