  • Rangers' Avery Weems: Joins Triple-A club

    The Rangers reinstated Weems (elbow) from Double-A Frisco's 60-day injured list Tuesday and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock. After undergoing Tommy John surgery last February, Weems missed the entire 2023 season and didn't make his 2024 debut until Sept. 1, when he began a rehab assignment with High-A Hickory. Weems was roughed up for six earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out four over 3.2 innings across his three outings for Hickory, but the Rangers saw enough from the lefty to activate him and advance him to their top affiliate.

  • Rangers' Avery Weems: Recovering from Tommy John surgery

    Weems underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow Wednesday, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. Weems can officially be ruled out for the entire 2023 season, and he might also get off to a late start in 2024. The 25-year-old southpaw posted a 5.14 ERA and 107:32 K:BB in 91 innings -- 17 starts, nine relief appearances -- last summer with the Double-A affiliate of the Rangers.
