Scott Heineman: Cut by Seattle
The Mariners released Heineman from his minor-league contract Aug. 11.
After joining Seattle in early June and reporting to Triple-A Tacoma, Heineman produced a .190/.277/.310 slash line across 112 plate appearances with the Mariners' top affiliate. The 30-year-old outfielder previously saw big-league action with the Rangers and Reds from the 2019 through 2021 seasons, batting .172 with five home runs and four stolen bases across 68 games.

Scott Heineman: Heading to Japan
Heineman was released by the Reds on Monday and is expected to head to Japan.
The 28-year-old has appeared in 68 games at the MLB level, hitting just .172/.249/.325. He fared even worse in 19 games for the Reds this season, posting a .100/.206/.300 slash line. Unless he takes a significant leap with regular playing time in Japan, his MLB career could potentially be over.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Outrighted to Triple-A
Heineman cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.
Heineman was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Monday, but he'll remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. The 28-year-old had a lackluster .100/.206/.300 slash line with two home runs, five runs and three RBI in 19 major-league games this year, but he could rejoin the Reds as outfield depth at some point.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Designated for assignment
Heineman was designated for assignment by the Reds on Monday.
The Reds decided they needed an extra infielder rather than an extra outfielder on the bench, removing Heineman from the roster and adding Alejo Lopez in his place. Heineman didn't do much to make the case that he should stick around, hitting .100/.206/.300 with a 44.1 percent strikeout rate in 34 plate appearances.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Recalled by Cincinnati
Heineman was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.
Heineman was sent to the minors Tuesday, but he'll now return to the major-league roster after right-hander Lucas Sims (elbow) was placed on the injured list Thursday. The 28-year-old saw inconsistent playing time during his first big-league stint this year and hit .077 with two homers, five runs and three RBI across 26 at-bats.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Sent back to Louisville
The Reds optioned Heineman to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.
Cincinnati chose to keep fellow outfieldersShogo Akiyama and Aristides Aquino on hand when a spot on the active roster was needed for reliever Tejay Antone (forearm), who was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move. Heineman had been up with the Reds for the past month, appearing in 17 games while going 2-for-26 with a pair of home runs.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Adds two-run homer
Heineman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 11-5 win over Colorado.
The 28-year-old went deep off Colorado starter Kyle Freeland in the second inning. Heineman has been little more than a depth outfielder this year. Both of his hits have been homers, and he's added three RBI and three runs scored across 21 plate appearances.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Slugs first homer
Heineman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Brewers.
Getting his first start of the year and batting seventh, the 28-year-old took Brett Anderson deep to lead off the bottom of the third inning, putting the Reds on the board. It was Heineman's first big-league homer this season and the fourth of his career, and he could take on the short side of a platoon in center field while Nick Senzel (knee) is sidelined.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Recalled by Reds
Heineman was recalled by the Reds on Friday.
The Reds need an extra outfielder with Nick Senzel (knee) landing on the injured list. Heineman will likely be stuck on the bench for most of his time on the roster, as he's a 28-year-old with just 49 big-league games under his belt and an unconvincing .189/.259/.331 slash line.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Optioned to Triple-A Louisville
Heineman was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Heineman was hitting well in spring training (.323/.432/.516) in 37 plate appearances, so it's a surprise that he was cut so early in spring, but he could be back on the roster if the Reds officially put Shogo Akiyama on the IL.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Competing for reserve spot
Heineman has hit well (.545) so far this spring in his bid to win the Reds' fifth outfield spot.
Even with the extra roster spot, Heineman is in a tough position - the top four outfield jobs are set (Nick Castellanos, Jesse Winker, Nick Senzel and Shogo Akiyama), and the Reds might not even need a fifth outfielder if they keep Dee Strange-Gordon on the active roster. Meanwhile, Heineman still also has to beat out Aristides Aquino.

Reds' Scott Heineman: Dealt to Cincinnati
Heineman was traded from the Rangers to the Reds on Wednesday in exchange for infielder Jose Acosta.
Heineman was designated for assignment by Texas last week, but the team was able to get a return for the outfielder via trade. It's unclear whether the 28-year-old will land a spot on the Reds' Opening Day roster after slashing .154/.185/.269 with one home run and seven RBI over 52 at-bats in 2020.

Rangers' Scott Heineman: DFA'd by Texas
Heineman was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday.
The 28-year-old was non-tendered by the Rangers last week but re-signed with the club the following day, and he's now been removed from the 40-man roster. Heineman figures to be outrighted to Triple-A if he clears waivers in the coming days.

Rangers' Scott Heineman: Returning to Rangers
Heineman signed a one-year, $595,000 contract with the Rangers on Thursday.
Heineman was non-tendered by Texas on Wednesday, but he'll come to an agreement on a major-league deal with his former team just one day later. Despite his new contract, he isn't guaranteed to see significant playing time after hitting .189 during 49 games across the past two seasons.

Scott Heineman: Hits open market
Heineman was non-tendered by the Rangers on Wednesday.
He logged a .213 average in 2019 and a .154 average in 2020, so while he never saw much playing time, he also didn't show enough to hang around on the 40-man roster entering his age-28 season. Heineman may have to settle for a minor-league deal on the open market.

Rangers' Scott Heineman: Returns to big club
The Rangers recalled Heineman from their alternate training site Sunday.
Texas placed catcher Jose Trevino (wrist) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. As he did prior to being demoted by Texas on Thursday, Heineman is expected to serve as a depth option in the outfield. The 27-year-old has slashed .154/.185/.269 over 54 plate appearances this season.

Rangers' Scott Heineman: Getting look in center
Heineman started in center field and went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in Friday's 7-4 loss to the Mariners.
This was Heineman's second consecutive start in center field, as Texas manager Chris Woodward navigates a pair of injuries. With Shin-Soo Choo (calf) and Willie Calhoun (hamstring) on the mend, Woodward wants to give Heineman a look in center, per T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. Nick Solak, who had been playing center field, moved to left field for the second straight game. Heineman is considered the better defensive outfielder, so it makes sense that he patrols center field. He's batting .219 (7-for-32) with one homer, six RBI and three steals in 2020.
