  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Takes loss Thursday

Garrett (7-4) took the loss Thursday against the A's, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk in one inning. He struck out one. Garrett entered the game in the sixth inning with the Mets ahead 6-5. He promptly allowed a single and a double to lead off the frame, allowing Oakland to tie the game on a fielder's choice, before Seth Brown put the A's ahead 7-6 with a one-out single. It was a tough outing for the 31-year-old Garrett in just his second appearance following a month-long IL stint. The right-hander now sports a 3.89 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP and 67:23 K:BB through 44 innings this season while logging four saves and eight holds.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Activated from IL

The Mets activated Garrett (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Garrett has been out of major-league action since July 10 due to inflammation in his right elbow. In his last rehab outing with Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, he allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three in one inning. Before landing on the IL, Garrett recorded eight holds and four saves across 36 major-league outings with a 3.64 ERA and 1.43 WHIP across 42 innings. To make room on the 26-man roster for Garrett, the Mets optioned Alex Young to Syracuse.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Begins rehab assignment

Garrett (elbow) allowed one hit and one walk but struck out three over a scoreless inning in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. Garrett has been shelved for the past four weeks with right elbow inflammation but shouldn't need many, if any, more rehab outings before being activated from the 15-day injured list. The righty reliever has contributed a 3.64 ERA and 63:22 K:BB across 42 frames out of the Mets' bullpen in 2024.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Begins throwing program

Garrett (elbow) began a throwing progression Saturday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Garrett landed on the 15-day injured list July 10 due to right elbow inflammation, and Saturday marks the first time he has done any sort of throwing since then. The 31-year-old said he's hoping for a quick ramp-up process, though it remains unclear if he'll be able to pitch again before the end of July.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Secures fourth save

Garrett earned the save in Monday's 9-7 win over the Nationals. He faced two batters, allowing one hit and striking out one. With Edwin Diaz still out due to suspension, Garrett entered with a three-run lead and two outs in the 10th inning. The previous reliever, Tyler Jay, left runners on first and second to clean up. After allowing a run-scoring single to Keibert Ruiz, Garrett punched out Luis Garcia to bring New York back to .500. Diaz is eligible to return from suspension July 6, but until that time, Garrett looks to be the favorite for saves in the Mets' bullpen.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Collects seventh hold

Garrett gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning Sunday to record his seventh hold of the season in a win over the Cubs. Edwin Diaz came on the ninth but got ejected for a foreign substance, and Jake Diekman wound up getting a one-out save as Mets manager Carlos Mendoza scrambled to fill in for his closer. Diaz is facing a 10-game suspension, and based on Mendoza's bullpen usage while the right-hander was out injured, Garrett should be viewed as the favorite to handle any save chances during that time. Diekman, Adam Ottavino, Drew Smith and even potentially Dedniel Nunez could all be factors in the ninth as well, however.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Perfect in sixth hold

Garrett struck out the side in a perfect seventh inning Sunday to record his sixth hold of the season in a loss to the Diamondbacks. With the Mets holding a 4-3 lead, the right-hander was called in to the face the heart of Arizona's order and fanned Lourdes Gurriel, Christian Walker and Jake McCarthy on 11 pitches (nine strikes). Garrett has had some stumbles of late, getting tagged for earned runs in four of his last nine appearances with a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over that stretch, but he's still part of the high-leverage mix and a candidate for saves in the absence of Edwin Diaz (shoulder).

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Melts down against Giants

Garrett (5-2) took the loss Friday against the Giants, coughing up five runs on four hits and a walk in the eighth inning. The big blow was a grand slam by Patrick Bailey as Garrett squandered a 6-2 lead. The 31-year-old right-hander has been tagged with the loss in each of his last two appearances, and he's given up seven of his eight earned runs on the season in his last six innings, a poor stretch that has come as he's moved into the late-inning mix due to Edwin Diaz's own poor form. Garrett's stumbles have added more than two points to his ERA, but he still sports a 2.67 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 43:13 K:BB through 27 frames.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Stuck with first loss

Garrett (5-1) took the loss Wednesday against Cleveland, allowing a run on two hits and a walk in one inning. He struck out two. After entering with the game tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Garrett allowed a leadoff single to David Fry, who advanced to second on a wild pitch before eventually scoring on a Johnathan Rodriguez base hit. It's the first loss of the year for the 31-year-old Garrett -- he's allowed just two earned runs in his last 13.1 innings. Despite Wednesday's setback, Garrett's emerged as a top option in the Mets' bullpen and could see the occasional save chance with Edwin Diaz temporarily shifting to a lower-leverage role. Overall, Garrett sports a 1.04 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP while posting a stellar 14.9 K/9 across 26 innings.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Lands six-out save

Garrett earned the save Sunday against Miami, allowing one hit and no walks with four strikeouts over two scoreless innings. Garrett took the ball in the eighth with the Mets leading 4-3 and, after striking out the side and getting four runs of support, stayed out to complete the ninth. It's unclear if Garrett would still have gotten the save chance if New York didn't extend its lead, but he's still a candidate for saves moving forward with Edwin Diaz moving out of the closer role temporarily to get back on track.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Picks up third win

Garrett (3-0) was credited with a blown save and a win Friday, allowing two unearned runs on one hit in the sixth inning against the Dodgers. He struck out one. Two errors in the inning by Joey Wendle, plus a hit-by-pitch from Garrett, contributed to the Mets coughing up a 4-2 lead, but they reclaimed it for good in the top of the seventh. The 31-year-old right-hander has been outstanding in a long-relief role to begin the season, and his 0.00 ERA and 0.83 WHIP are supported by a dazzling 18:3 K:BB through 9.2 innings over five appearances. It's tough to project him for many more wins given his usage, but if Garrett keeps racking up strikeouts with strong ratios, he'll still have fantasy value in deeper formats.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Gets win in season debut

Garrett (1-0) picked up the win in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Tigers, giving up two hits and a walk over three scoreless innings of relief. He struck out four. After Jose Butto tossed one-run ball over six innings, Garrett saved a Mets bullpen that had been taxed in the matinee by working the rest of the game, and he got rewarded for his efforts when New York finally pushed two runs across in the ninth. It's only the second big-league win of Garrett's career in 32 appearances, and his 6.65 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in 47.1 innings don't make a strong case for anything more than a low-leverage role. Despite Thursday's performance, the 31-year-old seems likely to get booted off the 26-man roster when the Mets next have a need for a fresh arm.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Recalled to majors

Garrett was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse by the Mets on Monday. He's taking the roster spot vacated by Tylor Megill (shoulder). Garrett had a 6.41 ERA during his time in the majors last season and would seem to be a good bet to be sent back down when the Mets need a starting pitcher to slide into Megill's slot.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Sent down to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Garrett to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports. Garrett had a solid spring, allowing two runs with a 7:2 K:BB over five innings. The right-handed reliever will head to Syracuse for now and wait for a call to rejoin the big-league bullpen.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Recalled from Syracuse

The Mets recalled Garrett from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. Garrett has allowed 13 earned runs in 12.1 major-league innings this season, but the Mets need a fresh bullpen arm after losing Sean Reid-Foley (lat) to the 15-day injured list.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Recalled from Triple-A

The Mets recalled Garrett from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. He will fill the spot in New York's bullpen that opened up after David Robertson was traded to Miami on Thursday. Garrett holds a 2.45 ERA and 1.33 WHIP through 29.1 innings in the minors this season, but he's struggled badly in prior big-league stints. Until he can produce consistent results in the majors, Garrett will remain a low-leverage option in the Mets' bullpen.

  • Orioles' Reed Garrett: Optioned to Norfolk

Garrett was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk after Friday's game. Garrett's contract was selected Wednesday. He made two relief appearances during his brief time in the big leagues, giving up three runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work. Spenser Watkins was called up to take his place in the bullpen.

  • Orioles' Reed Garrett: Signs on with Orioles

Garrett signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Thursday. Garrett elected free agency after recently being outrighted off the Nationals' 40-man roster but winds up staying in the Beltway area. The 30-year-old held a 6.75 ERA over seven relief appearances for the Nats in 2022.

  • Nationals' Reed Garrett: Activated and optioned

The Nationals reinstated Garrett (biceps) from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Garrett is fully recovered from right biceps inflammation after he recently wrapped up a four-appearance rehab stint without any renewed discomfort, but the Nationals don't have a spot available for him in the bullpen at the moment. Prior to landing on the shelf, the right-hander surrendered eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits and seven walks over 7.2 innings with Washington.

  • Nationals' Reed Garrett: Starts rehab assignment

Garrett (biceps) began a rehab assignment for Single-A Fredericksburg on Saturday and allowed one hit over a scoreless inning. Garrett was placed on the 15-day injured list July 7 with right biceps inflammation, and the short-term nature of his absence suggests that he likely won't require much ramp-up time in the minors. Once he's activated, Garrett will likely handle a low-leverage role out of the Washington bullpen.
