Guardians' Myles Straw: Outrighted to Columbus
Straw cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Columbus.
Straw spent the vast majority of the season with Columbus, slashing .240/.321/.329 with 29 steals in 30 attempts across 434 plate appearances. Now that the 30-year-old outfielder no longer has a spot on the 40-man roster, it's unlikely he makes a significant contribution to the Guardians in 2025 -- barring a drastic turnaround at the plate.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Sent back to minors
The Guardians optioned Straw to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
He gave Cleveland a little outfield protection while it was without Steven Kwan (back), but Straw will lose his spot on the 28-man active roster after Kwan was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move. Straw has spent virtually the entire season at Columbus, posting a .651 OPS with 30 stolen bases.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Two steals in Sunday's loss
Straw went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and a run scored in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Cardinals.
This was Straw's first start since he joined the big club Sept. 17, as he entered the lineup while Lane Thomas received some rest. Straw has often appeared off the bench, playing in six games, but he's 1-for-3 with two steals and two runs scored. His speed and defense will be a benefit for the Guardians over the final week of the regular season, but there's no guarantee Straw gets a spot on the postseason roster.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Rejoins big club
The Guardians selected Straw's contract Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.
Straw is still on the Guardians' books through 2026 after inking a five-year, $25 million extension in April 2022, but he was cast off the 40-man roster coming out of spring training and has spent the entire 2024 campaign at Columbus. Over 518 plate appearances at Triple-A, the 29-year old slashed .240/.321/.329 with three home runs and 29 stolen bases. Straw still has some value as a defender and baserunner, but his poor plate skills won't help him earn regular playing time as he joins Cleveland for the first time in 2024.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Clears waivers, heads to Triple-A
Straw cleared waivers Sunday and will report to Triple-A Columbus, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Straw was waived Friday, and unsurprisingly, no other teams were interested in putting in a claim for an outfielder who hit a paltry .239 and slugged just .302 over parts of three seasons in Cleveland. He has strong speed and defense, but it'll likely take an injury to another Guardians outfielder for Straw to get back in the majors.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Left off Opening Day roster
Straw is not on the Guardians' Opening Day roster, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
The Guardians placed Straw on waivers Friday, and the team has now officially announced its intentions to begin the season without him as part of its outfield unit. Straw is owed roughly $20 million over the next three years, so he will most likely clear waivers and head to Triple-A while Cleveland keeps Estevan Florial, Tyler Freeman and Ramon Laureano as its options in center field.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Placed on waivers
Straw has been placed on waivers by the Guardians, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
Straw will undoubtedly clear waivers given that he's still owed about $20 million over the next three years, but he has a minor-league option remaining and it sounds like he could be left off the Opening Day roster. If that's the case, the Guardians would appear ready to roll with a combination of Estevan Florial, Ramon Laureano and Tyler Freeman in center field.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Back in lineup
Straw (illness) is starting in center field and batting second in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Reds.
The 29-year-old has been battling a viral infection for nearly two weeks, but he'll return to game action Sunday. Straw had a .238/.301/.297 slash line with 20 steals in 147 games last season and remains the favorite to start in center field Opening Day, but Estevan Florial is also pushing for the job.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Out with viral infection
Straw is being held out of action due to a viral infection, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
It's not clear how long Straw has been under the weather, but he last played in a Grapefruit League game Tuesday. Consider him day-to-day. Straw is attempting to hold off Estevan Florial for the Guardians' center field job.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Fourth straight multi-hit game
Straw went 2-for-3 with a steal and a walk in Saturday's 8-0 loss to the Tigers.
Straw reached base three times in the contest but was left stranded on each occasion as the Guardians got shut out on the road. The center fielder has now recorded two hits in four consecutive games, though he's surprisingly failed to score or drive in a run over that stretch. He also swiped a bag for the second straight game to give him 20 stolen bases for the season, with 10 of those coming in September.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Posts steal Friday
Straw went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 7-5 win over the Tigers.
Straw is showing some life at the plate with three straight multi-hit efforts. Before this outburst, he'd gone just 6-for-46 (.130) over his first 18 games in September. The center fielder has maintained decent speed with 19 steals in 25 attempts this season, but his paltry .235/.297/.294 slash line with one home run, 29 RBI and 52 runs scored have left plenty to be desired. Despite the poor numbers, he's played in 146 contests.

Guardians' Myles Straw: Regaining playing time
Straw will start in center field and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Royals.
Straw looked to be moving into more of a part-time role earlier this month, but he appears to have since settled back in as the Guardians' preferred option in center field while Ramon Laureano has found himself on the bench more frequently. However, since he's slashing just .114/.158/.143 thus far in September, Straw is far from guaranteed to hold down a regular lineup spot for the rest of the season.
