Tanner Anderson: Released by Pittsburgh
Anderson (foot) was released by the Pirates on Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Anderson made a single five-inning relief appearance for the Pirates in 2021, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out just a single batter. He now owns a career 5.82 ERA in 38.2 innings at the highest level, which probably leaves him searching for a minor-league deal this winter. He ended his season on the injured list but was merely dealing with a bruised foot, which is unlikely to be a concern by next spring.

Pirates' Tanner Anderson: Lands on injured list
Anderson was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right foot contusion Saturday.
Anderson's contract was selected Thursday, and he made his season debut as a long reliever against the Cubs. He allowed two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out one in five innings, but he'll be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to his injury.

Pirates' Tanner Anderson: Contract selected
Anderson had his contract selected by the Pirates on Thursday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
The 28-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors yet this season. The reliever had a 6.04 ERA over five innings with the Athletics in 2019, his last season in the majors. Roansy Contreras was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday to make room on the major-league roster.

Pirates' Tanner Anderson: Joins Pirates organization
Anderson signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Monday, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.
Oakland's Triple-A Las Vegas released Anderson June 17 after he posted a 3.60 ERA in 15 innings this season. Now the righty, who has a career 6.15 ERA in 33.2 big-league innings between 2018 and 2019, joins the Pirates' minor-league system.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Reassigned to minor-league camp
Anderson was reassigned to minor-league camp Thursday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
The Athletics cut six total arms from camp Thursday afternoon. Anderson struggled as a starter in Oakland last season, recording a 6.04 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across five starts. The 26-year-old will have an opportunity to continue to develop during the remainder of spring and likely will begin his 2020 campaign with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Bounced from 40-man
The Athletics designated Anderson for assignment Sunday.
Oakland bumped Anderson off its 40-man roster to clear a spot for starting pitcher Sean Manaea (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Anderson previously made five starts with Oakland earlier this season, posting a 6.04 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 22.1 innings before being demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas in late July.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Sent back to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Anderson to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.
His demotion will clear a spot on the active roster for Brett Anderson (finger), who is expected to be reinstated from the paternity list ahead of his scheduled start Thursday against the Rangers. Tanner Anderson was only up with the big club for Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Astros and went unused out of the bullpen.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Recalled from Triple-A
Anderson was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Anderson made five starts for Oakland in the first half, stumbling to a 6.04 ERA. He appears to be up as a reliever this time around unless Brett Anderson's fingernail issue renders him unable to start Thursday against Texas. Nick Martini was optioned in a corresponding move.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Lasts only 4.2 innings
Anderson allowed two runs (one earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out three across 4.2 innings Thursday against the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.
Anderson consistently worked out of danger, allowing at least three baserunners in three of his five frames. Though he ultimately prevented runs well enough to aid the Athletics to a win, he's had difficulty working deep into games of late. Over his last three starts, he's worked a combined 11.1 innings, allowing 11 earned runs while whiffing nine. He'll head into the All-Star break with a 6.04 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across 22.1 innings.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Optioned to Triple-A
Anderson was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Anderson heads back to the minors as he won't be needed again before the All-Star break or in the first few games after play resumes. He could still be back in the big leagues soon after the break, though his 6.04 ERA in 22.1 innings of work makes that far from a lock. Paul Blackburn was recalled in a corresponding move.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Implodes in loss
Anderson (0-3) was charged with loss at Angel Stadium on Thursday after lasting just 2.2 innings and surrendering seven runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three.
Anderson started off strong, easily retiring the top of the Angels' lineup, including strikeouts to Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. Unfortunately, he also served up two-run homers to both Kole Calhoun and Ohtani in the brief outing, which proved to be his worst of this season. Over six appearances (four starts), the 26-year-old owns a dismal 7.13 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB. With Frankie Montas suspended, Anderson could see more opportunities on the hill, but he will need to turn things around. He'll get another shot Tuesday at home against the Twins.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Touched up for three runs
Anderson (0-2) took the loss Friday as the A's fell 5-3 to the Rays, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over four innings while striking out four.
The right-hander wasn't particularly sharp, throwing 49 of 76 pitches for strikes before getting the hook. Anderson gained some job security in the Oakland rotation when Frankie Montas was slapped with an 80-game suspension, but Anderson will need to pitch better than this to keep his spot in the long run, especially once Jesus Luzardo (shoulder) and Sean Manaea (shoulder) are ready to claim jobs.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Allows two runs in second start
Anderson did not factor into the decision against Seattle on Sunday, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out three.
Anderson was hardly dominant -- he induced only three swinging strikes -- but he held the Seattle offense to only one extra-base hit (a two-run shot by Mallex Smith) and was in line for the win when he departed in the sixth inning. He has now pitched into the sixth inning and given up exactly three hits and two runs in both of his starts this season, which may have earned him another opportunity to prove he belongs in the rotation. If so, he's in line to face the Rays on Friday at home.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Next start slated for Sunday
Anderson will start Sunday's game against the Mariners, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
The Athletics will give Mike Fiers and Brett Anderson an extra day of rest by handing Tanner Anderson a start in the series finale. He'll aim to build on his first outing of the season, when he came just one out shy of a quality start June 10 against the Rays.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: To draw another start
Anderson has earned another start, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Anderson fared well in his first major-league start, yielding just two runs while fanning five over 5.2 innings, so the Athletics intend to hand him another start. Oakland benefits from an off day Thursday, so the right-hander appears likely to toe the rubber June 18 against Baltimore.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Decent in first career start
Anderson (0-1) yielded two runs on three hits and two walks across 5.2 innings Monday, striking out five and taking the loss against Tampa Bay.
Anderson actually held the Rays off the board until Brandon Lowe took him deep for a two-run shot in the sixth inning. It was the first career start for the 26-year-old and he did a fairly good job with it. It's unclear whether he'll get another start with the big-league club, but if he does, it will likely be at home against Seattle on Sunday.

Athletics' Tanner Anderson: Making first MLB start Monday
The Athletics will promote Anderson from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Monday's game against the Rays, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Unless he exceeds expectations and impresses in his first outing with the Athletics, Anderson will likely only be making a spot start. The team's doubleheader earlier in the weekend against Texas coupled with an upcoming off day Thursday will allow the Athletics to get by with a four-man pitching staff until June 18, at which point long reliever Aaron Brooks could be ready to rejoin the rotation. Even as a streaming play, Anderson doesn't inspire much confidence for fantasy purposes after posting a 6.26 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 37:26 K:BB in 54.2 innings at Triple-A.
