Bautista is coming back from right labrum and rotator cuff surgery. The Orioles have not ruled out a late-season return for the reliever, and progressing to facing hitters in early August seemingly gives him a chance to make it back this year. Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Saturday that Bautista (shoulder) has been "throwing really, really well" in his bullpen sessions, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Coming back from right labrum and rotator cuff surgery, Bautista was cleared to resume mound work last week and the team is "pretty excited about where he's at." The Orioles are holding out hope that Bautista could rejoin their bullpen before the end of the regular season, but he's a long way from having an established timeline for a return.

Bautista (shoulder) threw a baseball Tuesday for the first time since undergoing surgery last August, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
The right-hander made 25 throws on flat ground from about 45 feet, clearing his first major hurdle. He said afterward that his arm feels good and that he's still hoping to pitch later this season. Bautista will be cutting it close to return in 2026, as the procedure to repair a torn labrum and torn rotator cuff typically carries a 12-month recovery timetable.

The Orioles placed Bautista (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Friday, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports.
The move opens a 40-man roster spot for Bryan Ramos, who was claimed off waivers in a corresponding move. Bautista underwent right shoulder surgery in August of 2025 and may not even pitch during the 2026 campaign, as the Orioles have no plans to rush the hard-throwing right-hander after signing Ryan Helsley during the offseason.

The Orioles aren't going to push Bautista (shoulder) to pitch in 2026, per MLB.com.
The hard-throwing right-hander is progressing well from right shoulder surgery in August of 2025 to repair a torn rotator cuff and torn labrum, but Baltimore has no intentions to rush Bautista back into the fray. His throwing progression will be worth monitoring, but the expectation remains that Bautista won't be much of a fantasy factor in 2026, if at all. Ryan Helsley signed a two-year contract with the O's in November and is all set to start the new season with a big opportunity to bounce back as the club's top closer, after limping to a 7.20 ERA through 20 regular-season innings with the Mets to finish last year.

Orioles' Felix Bautista: Staying in Baltimore
Bautista and the Orioles avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.25 million contract Friday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Bautista is not expected to be available until late next season after undergoing surgery in August to repair a torn labrum and torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Prior to the injury, Bautista appeared in 35 games for the Orioles, converting 19 of 20 save opportunities while posting a 2.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 50:23 K:BB across 34.2 innings.

Bautista underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum and torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, and he is expected to be sidelined at least 12 months, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
The Orioles had previously ruled Bautista out for the season with what they referred to as a significant shoulder injury, but the reliever requiring both a labrum and rotator cuff repair is about the worst-case scenario. While the club seems to be leaving open the possibility that Bautista could return late in the 2026 season, it's likelier he's out until the 2027 campaign. Additionally, with the nature of the operation, there's a chance Bautista is never an effective pitcher again. The 30-year-old will be eligible for salary arbitration in 2026 and 2027.
