  • White Sox's Juan Then: Lands on Chicago's south side

Then signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Jan. 24. Then elected free agency earlier in the offseason and will now head to Triple-A Charlotte as organizational depth for the Sox. The 23-year-old righty appeared in nine games for the Mariners last season, surrendering six earned runs in 11 frames while striking out five batters and walking two. The White Sox don't have a particularly deep bullpen, so Then could get some more looks in the majors for his new club.

  • Mariners' Juan Then: Clears waivers

Then cleared waivers Saturday and was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma. Then lost his spot on the Mariners' 40-man roster after struggling to a 4.91 ERA and 10.4 percent strikeout rate in 11 innings of relief. He owns a 12.71 ERA with more walks than strikeouts at the Triple-A level this season, so it's no surprise that he went unclaimed on waivers.

  • Mariners' Juan Then: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Then to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. The Mariners will swap Then off the 26-man active roster for another reliever in Trent Thornton, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Then went unused out of the bullpen after he was called up from Tacoma ahead of Monday's 6-2 win over the Red Sox.

  • Mariners' Juan Then: Recalled from Tacoma

The Mariners recalled Then from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. Then has had a rough season in the minors, accumulating a 13.19 ERA and 2.91 WHIP across 14.1 innings. Fortunately, he's been much more effective in the bigs, but he figures to primarily see action during low-leverage situations while in Seattle.

  • Mariners' Juan Then: Optioned back to Triple-A

Seattle optioned Then to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. Then had surrendered five earned runs on eight hits and one walk over his last five innings of work with the Mariners. Darren McCaughan will take his place in the bullpen Tuesday.

  • Mariners' Juan Then: Sent to Double-A

The Mariners optioned Then to Double-A Arkansas on Sunday. Then is heading into his third season as a member of the Mariners' 40-man roster, but he doesn't appear especially close to making his MLB debut. The 23-year-old right-hander covered just 12 frames in the minors between Arkansas and the Mariners' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate in 2022, making one-inning appearances in each of those outings.

  • Mariners' Juan Then: Activated at Double-A

Then (elbow) was reinstated from Double-A Arkansas' injured list last Thursday and made his 2022 debut for the affiliate two days later, striking out two and allowing one run on hit and one walk in a one-inning appearance. Then had been on the shelf since early April with the right elbow injury before he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League earlier this month. After two one-inning outings in the ACL, Then was cleared to rejoin Arkansas. The 22-year-old seems likely to work out of the bullpen moving forward.

  • Mariners' Juan Then: Out with elbow injury

Then is on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Arkansas with an unspecified elbow injury, Kyle Glaser of Baseball America reports. He does not have a timeline for a return and has not pitched this season. Then is more likely to be a reliever than a starter at the big-league level and isn't worth stashing in most dynasty formats while he is dealing with an elbow injury.

  • Mariners' Juan Then: Joins training roster

Then will be part of the Mariners' 60-man training roster. The Mariners essentially added all of their top prospects, including Then, along with members of the 40-man roster. Then, who was acquired last summer from the Yankees for Edwin Encarnacion, has only logged three starts at Low-A (2.25 ERA, 0.69 WHIP) so he probably won't see any MLB action in 2020.
