  • Royals' Helcris Olivarez: Nabs minor-league deal

Olivarez agreed Wednesday with the Royals on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports. Olivarez, 25, had previously been a member of the Rockies' 40-man roster during the 2021 and 2022 seasons but has yet to make his MLB debut. The left-hander spent the 2025 campaign in the Giants organization, logging a 3.65 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 46:43 K:BB in 37 innings between Triple-A Sacramento and Double-A Richmond.

  • Giants' Helcris Olivarez: Back in San Francisco as NRI

The Giants re-signed Olivarez to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Olivarez threw 38 innings at the Double-A level in 2024 between the Red Sox and Giants organizations, posting a 3.79 ERA with 51 strikeouts but also 53 walks. The left-hander has yet to pitch in the majors and is surely headed back to the minors to begin the 2025 campaign.

  • Rockies' Helcris Olivarez: Cast off 40-man roster

Olivarez (shoulder) was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. Olivarez sustained a scapula strain in the back of his left shoulder in April and spent the entire 2022 season on the injured list. It's unclear whether he'll be healthy for the start of spring training in 2023.

  • Rockies' Helcris Olivarez: Makes 2022 debut in rookie ball

Olivarez (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with the Rockies' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate July 15 and struck out one over two perfect innings in his lone appearance for the club. The July 15 outing marked Olivarez's season debut after he had opened the season on the Rockies' 60-day injured list due to a left shoulder strain. The fact that he hasn't pitched again in the minors in the two and a half weeks since his initial appearance could hint at a possible setback in his recovery.

  • Rockies' Helcris Olivarez: Transferred to 60-day IL

Olivarez (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Olivarez has been on the injured list since the start of the season due to a scapula strain in the back of his left shoulder, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return. However, the southpaw won't be eligible for game action until at least mid-June following Saturday's move to the lengthier injured list.

  • Rockies' Helcris Olivarez: Goes to minors

The Rockies optioned Olivarez to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. Olivarez was one of four players on the Rockies' 40-man roster that was dispatched to the minors Thursday, leaving Colorado with 47 players remaining at MLB camp. The 21-year-old lefty's demotion comes as little surprise, given that he has yet to pitch above the Double-A level. He covered 99.2 innings for High-A Spokane in 2021, submitting a 6.05 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 112:68 K:BB.

  • Rockies' Helcris Olivarez: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Olivarez was added to the Rockies' 40-man roster Friday. Olivarez will be protected from the upcoming Rule 5 draft after joining the 40-man roster. The southpaw was able to continue his development as part of the team's 60-man roster during the abbreviated 2020 campaign.
