  • White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Suffers 12th loss

Crochet (6-12) took the loss Friday, allowing one run on three hits and no walks over four innings against Oakland. He struck out four.

The southpaw was saddled with his third straight loss despite this solid 56-pitch performance, as the White Sox continue to limit his workload as the season winds down. Crochet has not reached the fifth inning in 12 straight starts, and his 138 innings in 2024 has already more than doubled his prior career high of 54.1 frames, set back in 2021. Things haven't been pretty over those dozen outings, either. The 25-year-old has gone 0-6 with a 5.89 ERA and 1.53 WHIP across 36.2 innings over that span. He is currently projected to make his next short start against the Angels on the road next week.

  • White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Lasts two innings Saturday

Crochet (6-11) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three over two innings to take the loss versus the Red Sox on Saturday.

Crochet's workload continues to drop as part of the White Sox's plan to trim his innings. He wasn't particularly good in this game either -- he needed 51 pitches to get through two frames, laboring through a four-run first inning by Boston. While he's maintained a 3.83 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 191:32 K:BB over 134 innings across 29 starts this season, his current workload all but guarantees he won't pitch deep enough to be eligible for wins unless he's ultra efficient. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Athletics, but Crochet has limited fantasy utility over the remainder of 2024.

  • White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Big strikeout numbers in loss

Crochet (6-10) allowed one run on three hits while striking out eight over 3.1 innings in a loss to the Mets on Sunday.

Crochet struck out the first seven batters he faced and saw the minimum through three innings. Francisco Lindor opened up the fourth with a home run, and Crochet wasn't afforded the opportunity to finish the inning after allowing two more base hits and eventually being pulled with one out in the frame after throwing just 57 pitches. The hard-throwing lefty hasn't reached five innings in a start since June 30, but he now has 21 strikeouts over his last 11.1 frames. For the year, Crochet owns a 3.61 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 188:31 K:BB in 132 innings. He lines up to make his next start on the road against the Red Sox over the weekend.

  • White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Making next start Sunday

Crochet is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Mets at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Even though Crochet tossed just four pitches in his most recent start Tuesday against the Rangers before the game was suspended due to inclement weather, the White Sox still treated it as a full turn through the rotation for the southpaw. He'll return to the mound Sunday on four days' rest, but despite his light usage Tuesday, Crochet shouldn't be expected to work deep into his upcoming outing. Over his last nine starts, he hasn't covered more than four innings in any outing and owns a 5.93 ERA and 1.61 WHIP during that stretch.

  • White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Throws four pitches, next start TBD

Crochet threw four pitches in his start Tuesday against the Rangers before the game was suspended due to inclement weather.

The White Sox and Rangers will resume the suspended game as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, but Crochet isn't expected to be available for either contest after he went through a full warmup before Tuesday's contest was called in the top of the first inning. Per LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune, Chris Flexen is slated to "start" in the resumption of the suspended game Wednesday, while the White Sox are likely to treat the originally scheduled game as a bullpen day. The White Sox haven't revealed when Crochet might pitch next, but assuming he sticks to his usual four-day rest schedule, he would tentatively line up to make his next start Sunday versus the Mets. Crochet has now covered four innings or less in each of his last nine starts, making it difficult to extract much fantasy value from him.

  • White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Fans four in four-inning start

Crochet allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters over four innings in a no-decision against San Francisco on Wednesday.

White Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore announced Wednesday that Crochet will be be on a workload limit for the rest of the campaign, so it's no surprise that he was pulled after four innings and 57 pitches. The left-hander may have gone a bit longer, though, if he hadn't faded in his final frame, allowing a pair of runs on three hits after beginning his outing with three scoreless, one-hit innings. Crochet managed a healthy 11 whiffs despite his low pitch count, and his four punchouts pushed him to 180 on the campaign. He still has a good chance to reach 200 strikeouts by the end of the season, but even that's not a given since Sizemore said Wednesday that Crochet's workload could "slowly decrease" as the season winds down.
