Red Sox's Shane Drohan: Returned to Red Sox
The White Sox returned Drohan to the Red Sox on Wednesday after he cleared waivers, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Since the White Sox picked up Drohan in the Rule 5 Draft before designating him for assignment last week, he had to be offered back to the Red Sox for $50,000. Boston has elected to pay that rate to return Drohan to his original organization. The left-hander has been limited to 9.1 innings this season -- all in the minors while on a rehab assignment -- after he underwent left shoulder nerve decompression surgery in late March. Drohan will likely report to Triple-A Worcester, but it's unclear if the Red Sox will have him work out of the rotation or the bullpen.

White Sox's Shane Drohan: Moved off IL, DFA'd by White Sox
The White Sox reinstated Drohan (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list and designated him for assignment Sunday.
Drohan was placed on the injured list March 28 after undergoing left shoulder nerve decompression surgery. After beginning his rehab assignment at High-A Winston-Salem, Drohan was moved up to Triple-A Charlotte on May 28, where he's allowed no runs on two hits and two walks while striking out five over four frames. The White Sox selected Drohan during the Rule 5 Draft in December, so he'll have to be offered back to the Red Sox if he goes unclaimed off waivers.

White Sox's Shane Drohan: Moving rehab up to Triple-A
Drohan (shoulder) has been transferred to Triple-A Charlotte to continue his rehab assignment, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Coming back from left shoulder nerve decompression surgery, Drohan has allowed six runs (five earned) with a 10:4 K:BB over 5.1 innings in his first five rehab appearances. The Rule 5 pick could use most, if not all, of his 30 allotted rehab days.

White Sox's Shane Drohan: Continuing rehab at Single-A
Drohan (shoulder) moved his rehab assignment to High-A Winston-Salem on Tuesday and gave up three runs (two earned) on one hit and one walk while retiring one batter.
Working his way back from left shoulder nerve decompression surgery, Drohan allowed three runs with a 9:2 K:BB over 3.2 innings in three appearances in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League before advancing his assignment to High-A. The Rule 5 pick will likely use all of his 30 allotted rehab days before the White Sox add him to the roster. Drohan will need to remain on Chicago's roster all season or be offered back to the Red Sox. If he sticks around with the White Sox, he'll likely be deployed out of the bullpen, given that he hasn't yet pitched more than two innings in any of his four rehab outings to date.

White Sox's Shane Drohan: Heads to 60-day IL
The White Sox placed Drohan (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Thursday.
A Rule 5 selection this winter, Drohan missed the entirety of his first spring training with Chicago while recovering from left shoulder nerve decompression surgery. According to MLB.com, Drohan is expected to begin a throwing program shortly after the regular season begins, but his placement on the 60-day IL implies that the White Sox expect him to take nearly two months to get fully ramped up. Drohan served primarily as a starter for the Red Sox's Triple-A affiliate in Worcester last season, registering a 6.37 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 93:63 K:BB in 89 innings.

White Sox's Shane Drohan: Undergoes surgery
Drohan underwent shoulder surgery Thursday, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.
Drohan is expected to begin a throwing program by the end of the spring, but it's unclear how long it will be before he takes the mound for the White Sox. The 25-year-old Rule 5 Draft pick posted a 6.37 ERA and 1.85 WHIP across 89 innings with Boston's Triple-A affiliate last year. While most of Drohan's minor-league appearances came as a starter, it's possible the White Sox bring him back to serve as a multi-inning reliever.

White Sox's Shane Drohan: Headed to White Sox
Drohan was selected by the White Sox in the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Drohan is a lefty with a plus changeup who contributed a 5.05 ERA and 129:72 K:BB over 123 innings between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester in 2023. The White Sox figure to keep him stretched out as a starter in spring training but could wind up stashing him in long relief if he makes the roster.

Red Sox's Shane Drohan: Exits start with calf cramp
Drohan was removed from his most recent start Sunday with Triple-A Worcester ahead of the fifth inning due to a calf cramp, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Drohan struck out a batter and allowed three hits and three walks over four scoreless innings before being lifted from the contest when he felt discomfort in his calf while warming up prior to the fifth inning. Fortunately for Drohan, his injury wasn't deemed to be anything too serious, and Worcester is still proceeding as though he'll be able to make his next turn through the rotation in Buffalo later this week. The southpaw has posted a 5.03 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 33:27 K:BB over 39.1 innings at Worcester since being promoted from Double-A Portland in mid-May.

Red Sox's Shane Drohan: Bumped up to Triple-A
The Red Sox promoted Drohan from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Chris Henrique of the "Beyond the Monster" podcast reports.
After finishing the 2022 campaign at Portland, Drohan returned to the Eastern League for the start of the 2023 season and proved to be one of the better arms on the circuit. In his six starts with Portland, the 24-year-old lefty submitted a 1.32 ERA (3.03 xFIP), 0.82 WHIP and 21.1 K-BB% over 34 innings. Now on the doorstep of the big leagues, Drohan could have a chance to debut for Boston later in the season if he continues to dominate at Worcester, though the Red Sox's ample starting depth means he may need an injury or two to hit the rotation before he gets a promotion.

Red Sox's Shane Drohan: Dominant in Eastern League
Drohan allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four over six scoreless innings to earn his fifth win in five starts for Double-A Portland on Thursday.
Drohan picked up where he left off in April, for which he was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Month, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. The lefty, drafted in fifth round in 2020 out of Florida State University, is an under-the-radar prospect that started to blip on the radar in 2022. Drohan mostly lives in the 92-to-95 mph range with his fastball and augments it with a curve and changeup. Most notably in 2023, the 24-year-old former Seminole is cutting down on walks, lowering his rate to 1.9 BB/9 from 3.96 last season. The free pass has been an issue for Drohan since his college days (8.43 BB/9).
