Jackson signed with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball on Friday.
After three seasons in Major League Baseball, Jackson will ply his trade in Japan, where he might be able to work as a starter. The Pirates released Jackson last month to allow him to pursue this opportunity. Still just 27, Jackson could theoretically return to the majors down the line if things go well for him in his new venture.

The Pirates designated Jackson for assignment Thursday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Jackson split the 2023 season between the Pirates and Dodgers and worked as both a starter and reliever. All told, he managed a 4.99 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 61.1 innings in the majors, so he should be able to find a new opportunity in relatively short order.

Pirates' Andre Jackson: Makes abbreviated start
Rotowire
Jackson struck out two and gave up no hits and two walks over one scoreless inning in his start in Friday's 7-5 win over the Reds.
Jackson had been serving as a traditional starter or bulk reliever for the better part of the month, but he was deployed as more of an opener in Friday's contest. Though the Pirates didn't disclose Jackson was dealing with any reported injury, he tossed just one inning before he was lifted from the contest in favor of Luis Ortiz, who covered 3.2 innings of long relief. The Pirates have been running out a six-man rotation of late, so it's possible that Jackson ends up moving to the bullpen over the final week and a half of the season if manager Derek Shelton feels the team can get by with five starters.

In Jackson's previous six appearances since returning to the big-league squad Aug. 5, he posted a 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB across 24.2 innings. Pirates' Andre Jackson: Effective in bulk role
Rotowire
Jackson allowed two runs on six hits while striking out two over six innings in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Cubs.
Jackson allowed a pair of runs in the second inning after Rob Zastryzny worked the opening frame. Since joining the Pirates in early August, the 27-year-old right-hander has worked to a 3.32 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 19 innings. Pirates' Andre Jackson: Remains in rotation
Rotowire
Jackson is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Twins in Minnesota, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
The right-hander will get a second straight turn through the rotation despite a rocky showing in his first MLB start versus the Reds this past Sunday, when he struck out five while allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks over 3.2 innings en route to taking a no-decision in the second game of a doubleheader with Cincinnati. Over 26.1 innings in the majors this season, Jackson has posted a stellar 28:5 K:BB, but most of his other ratios (5.47 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 2.1 HR/9) are less impressive.

Pirates' Andre Jackson: Making start Saturday
Rotowire
Jackson will start for the Pirates in Saturday's game versus the Reds, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
Though Jackson is getting his first MLB start Saturday, he has plenty of starting experience in the minors, and his relief appearances in the big leagues have routinely been of the multi-inning variety. The right-hander's last appearance came Tuesday, when he threw 30 pitches over two innings. Jackson hasn't allowed a single baserunner in his five innings with Pittsburgh. Since he'll be pitching on three days' rest and hasn't covered more than four innings in any appearance in the majors or minors this season, Jackson likely won't reach the five-inning threshold he'll need to qualify for a win.

Dodgers' Andre Jackson: Banks three-inning save
Rotowire
Jackson earned a save against Philadelphia on Saturday, allowing three hits and striking out three batters over three scoreless innings.
Jackson was called up earlier in the day and was deployed in the seventh inning after rookie Bobby Miller gave Los Angeles six scoreless frames. Jackson preserved the shutout and was credited with a save, throwing 30 of 39 pitches for a strike without walking any batters. The right-hander has notched two saves this season and four in his career, all of which have been three innings in length. His latest call-up is a result of Shelby Miller going on the bereavement list, so Jackson may head back to the minors before long.
