  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Moves to 60-day IL

The Marlins transferred Nardi (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Saturday. Nardi was initially deactivated Aug. 24, so his move to the 60-day IL will officially rule him out for the rest of the season. The 26-year-old southpaw will close the book on 2024 with a 5.07 ERA and 1.25 WHIP alongside a 70:18 K:BB across 49.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Lands on IL with elbow injury

The Marlins placed Nardi on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday, due to a left elbow injury. It's unclear when Nardi picked up the injury, though he did get roughed up against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, when he gave up two runs on two hits and one walk while recording just one out. Prior to Wednesday, Nardi recorded six holds in his last 14 outings with a 3.29 ERA and 0.95 WHIP across 13.2 innings. Miami recalled right-hander George Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Deployed in sixth inning Wednesday

Nardi collected his 12th hold of the season in Wednesday's win over the Rays, walking one and striking out three in a scoreless sixth inning. The southpaw was considered the favorite to take over closing duties for the Marlins after Tanner Scott was traded to the Padres, but instead manager Skip Schumaker called on Nardi in the sixth inning Wednesday to protect a 4-2 lead. Miami wound up adding to its lead in the seventh, eliminating a potential save chance, but it still wasn't encouraging usage for any fantasy GMs hoping Nardi will pick up saves down the stretch. Anthony Bender, another potential closing option, was called on in the eighth inning after the lead was extended to 6-2 while Calvin Faucher worked the ninth, leaving the bullpen picture for the Marlins very murky.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Could be next in line to close

Nardi might step into the closer role if Tanner Scott is traded, Kaushik Sampath of the Miami Herald reports. Nardi had a brutal start to the season, getting tagged for eight runs in his first four appearances, but since then the lefty has produced a palatable 3.50 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB through 36 innings. Scott becomes a free agent in the offseason and is almost certain to be dealt by next week's trade deadline, and with A.J. Puk now in Arizona, the path to the ninth inning could be fairly clear for Nardi. Huascar Brazoban could also be in the mix for closing duties in the wake of a Scott trade.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Collects seventh hold

Nardi picked up his seventh hold of the season Sunday, giving up a hit and striking out a batter to record the final out of the seventh inning. The southpaw has overcome some early season struggles and hasn't walked a batter in 12 straight appearances, posting a 3.72 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 10:0 K:BB through 9.2 innings over that stretch. Nardi's seven holds ties him with Anthony Bender for the team lead, and if closer Tanner Scott gets dealt before the trade deadline, the duo would still represent the top options to step into ninth-inning duty for the Marlins.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Charged with third blown save

Nardi gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning Friday while striking out one, but he was charged with his third blown save of the season after allowing an inherited runner to score. Kyle Tyler began the sixth inning but got the hook after giving up a leadoff single to Jacob Young, and Nardi wasn't able to prevent Young from coming around to score and tie the game at 1-1. Nardi hasn't been tagged with a run of his own in six straight appearances, and while he's struck out 10 batters in 5.1 innings over that stretch, he's also issued three free passes and hit a batter with a pitch. He's whittled his ratios down to a 7.71 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in the process, but the 25-year-old southpaw is still struggling to regain the form he flashed in 2023.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Collects third hold

Nardi struck out the side in a perfect eighth inning Sunday to record his third hold of the season in a loss to Atlanta. The southpaw needed 12 pitches (10 strikes) to knife through the bottom of Atlanta's order, only to see Tanner Scott blow the save in the ninth. Nardi's had a rough start to the season, giving up multiple runs in four of his nine appearances, but his 10:3 K:BB through 7.1 innings is something to build on. Should Scott be removed from the closer role, Nardi is still one of the prime candidates to see save chances in his place despite his horrific 12.27 ERA.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Manages clean outing Sunday

Nardi struck out two in a perfect seventh inning during Sunday's win over the Cardinals. The southpaw threw eight of 12 pitches for strikes against St. Louis' 5-6-7 hitters, giving Nardi only his second scoreless outing in five appearances to begin the season. Tanner Scott has been very shaky as well, but Nardi hasn't looked like much of a candidate to take over ninth-inning duties if necessary, stumbling to a 16.62 ERA over 4.1 innings. His 6:1 K:BB does offer some hope of a turnaround, however.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Injured by comebacker

Nardi was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rays after getting hit in the left hand by a comebacker, Steve Carney of StPeteNine.com reports. Nardi will go in for imaging on his hand, and the Marlins should provide an update on his status in the near future. Until more is known, he should be considered day-to-day.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Activated from injured list

Nardi (triceps) was activated Tuesday from the 15-day injured list, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nardi will return to the Marlins' bullpen Tuesday night against the Phillies after missing three weeks with left triceps inflammation. The 24-year-old southpaw has registered a steady 3.19 ERA and 48:11 K:BB through 36.2 major-league innings this season.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Delivers clean rehab outing

Nardi (triceps) struck out two over a perfect inning of relief in his first rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Jacksonville. Nardi has been on the shelf since July 4 with left triceps inflammation and could require another appearance or two in the minors before the Marlins are willing to bring him back from the 15-day injured list. Prior to being deactivated, Nardi compiled a 3.19 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 36.2 innings while picking up two saves and seven holds.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Cleared to play catch

Nardi (triceps) was spotted playing catch Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nardi is with the Marlins on their road trip to open their second-half schedule, but he may need to report to a minor-league affiliate for a brief rehab assignment once he advances further along in his throwing program. Miami placed the reliever on the 15-day injured list July 4 with left triceps inflammation.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Vultures another win

Nardi (6-1) picked up the win Thursday, striking out one batter without allowing a run in two-thirds of an inning against the Red Sox. Jesus Luzardo gave up a couple one-out singles in the seventh inning of a scoreless game and got the hook, but Nardi needed only seven pitches (five strikes) to escape the jam and become the pitcher of record when the Marlins pushed across a run in the top of the eighth. The 24-year-old southpaw continues to have a breakout campaign -- he's been scored upon only once in 25 appearances since the beginning of May, posting a 0.78 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB through 23 innings over that stretch while adding four wins, two saves and seven holds to his ledger. A.J. Puk remains the closer for the Marlins, but Nardi's dominance has moved him into a prominent high-leverage role.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Notches second save

Nardi picked up the save in Sunday's 4-2 victory over Washington. He allowed a hit while striking out two over a scoreless inning. With A.J. Puk having pitched the last two days, the Marlins' turned to Nardi in the ninth after using Dylan Floro in the eighth. The 24-year-old Nardi has been tremendous for Miami this season -- he hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 20 appearances (19.1 innings), recording 25 strikeouts in that span. Nardi's ERA is down to 2.27 with a 1.01 WHIP and 39:9 K:BB across 31.2 innings this season. Puk figures to have a firm hold on the closing job, but Nardi could see the occasional save chance as he's worked his way up the Marlins' bullpen hierarchy.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Returns to majors

Nardi was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The 24-year-old was sent down Monday but will quickly rejoin the big-league club. Nardi was promoted in mid-August and allowed 13 earned runs with a 13:7 K:BB in eight innings across his first seven MLB appearances.

  • Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Sent back to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Nardi to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Nardi will cede his spot in the Miami bullpen to Aneurys Zabala, whose contract was selected from Triple-A in advance of Monday's doubleheader with the Rangers. The demotion comes after Nardi yielded 11 runs (10 earned) on 12 hits and four walks in five innings over his most recent four relief appearances.
