Johnathan Rodriguez 's biggest challenge in 2026 will be to prove to fantasy managers he is not just the next version of Jhonkensy Noel. The two are cut from the same cloth: big bat speed, big exit velo, and big contact issues. Rodriguez showed all of that in limited playing time with Cleveland in 2025 after a climb up the organizational ladder in which he hit 114 homers including 29 in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons. His 23.1% strikeout rate in Triple-A last season was his best since playing in A-ball in 2021, so perhaps there is hope things can get better for him. He will have to force his way into a platoon in right field or, more likely, DH because he has no discerning defensive value. This is an AL-Only end game power play situation at best right now unless we see some demonstrable changes in camp.

The 25-year-old righty-hitting outfielder drew the start versus southpaw Brandon Walter and delivered his first multi-RBI game of the season. With Lane Thomas (foot) on the injured list, the Guardians do have some extra reps to fill in the outfield for the time being. That said, Rodriguez has plenty of work to do if he wants to earn more playing time -- he's slashing a pitiful .152/.204/.239 with three home runs, two doubles, one triple and three RBI over 49 plate appearances.

Add Rodriguez's name to the competition for right field, which also includes Will Brennan and Jhonkensy Noel. Rodriguez has done damage in the minors, including its highest level where the outfielder has a .295 average and 40 home runs over 165 games at Triple-A Columbus. "What he's done at Triple-A the last couple of years, we're excited about the future for J-Rod," Vogt said. Noel (Saturday) and Brennan (Sunday) have started the first two spring games with Rodriguez coming off the bench Saturday.
