  • Guardians' Gavin Williams: Fans seven in loss

Williams (3-10) took the loss Tuesday against the Twins, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out seven.

The Cleveland right-hander's losing streak now stands at three, although, he performed much better in this 89-pitch outing. Williams entered having allowed eight runs across his last six innings and managed to generate a solid 16 whiffs en route to his seven punchouts. The 25-year-old just couldn't handle Matt Wallner, as the Minnesota slugger drove in both runs allowed via a pair of RBI singles. Williams has now pitched to a 5.12 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 76:30 K:BB across 70.1 innings this season. He lines up to make his next start against the Cardinals in St. Louis this weekend.

  • Guardians' Gavin Williams: Takes ninth loss

Williams (3-9) took the loss against the Rays on Thursday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

Williams got off to a rocky start, surrendering a solo homer to Brandon Lowe in the second at-bat of the game to put Cleveland in an early hole. The Rays would get to the right-hander again in the fourth, this time for two runs after he allowed three of the first five batters to reach. Williams would not make it through six frames for the fifth time in his last six starts while going on to take his second straight loss. He now carries a 6.23 ERA in September over three starts to go along with an 11:7 K:BB. Williams has also issued multiple walks in six consecutive outings.

  • Guardians' Gavin Williams: Can't get through opening frame

Williams (3-8) took the loss against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing five runs on two hits and three walks over two-thirds of an inning. He did not record a strikeout.

Williams had a start he'd like to forget Saturday, issuing three consecutive walks with one out in the first inning before then surrendering a ground-rule double along with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to put Cleveland in an early hole. The right-hander did not make it through the frame and would end up being charged with a fifth run after being relieved by Pedro Avila. It easily marked Williams' shortest outing of the campaign and came after he hurled seven innings of one-run ball in his previous start, while it also marked his first start in which he failed to record a strikeout. Furthermore, Williams has now lost four of his last five starts, issuing multiple free passes in each of those outings.

  • Guardians' Gavin Williams: Dazzles in third win

Williams (3-7) earned the win over the Royals on Monday, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out six batters over six innings.

Williams had his best start of the season Monday against the Royals. His lone mistake came in the second inning when he walked Yuli Gurriel and then gave up an RBI double to Maikel Garcia. Williams would go on to retire the next 16 batters he faced before being replaced in the eighth inning. The seven frames pitched were a season high, and it's the third time in his career he's reached that mark. The 25-year-old will take a 4.55 ERA into his next start.

  • Guardians' Gavin Williams: Saddled with seventh loss

Williams (2-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Royals, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six.

The Cleveland right-hander's run of tough luck continues, as he took his third consecutive loss in this rain-shortened, 83-pitch outing. However, the only blemish on this particular night was a two-run homer allowed to Paul DeJong in the second inning. The 25-year-old Williams has now pitched to a 4.99 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 58:21 K:BB across 52.1 innings this season. He currently lines up to make his next appearance against the Pirates at home this weekend.

  • Guardians' Gavin Williams: Can't escape fifth inning

Williams (2-6) took the loss Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks over 4.1 innings against the Yankees. He struck out five.

Williams was locked in a pitcher's duel early against Gerrit Cole but was tagged by an Aaron Judge solo blast in the fourth inning, then was pulled after a couple of batters reached base in the fifth, both of whom came around to score. Combined with the Guardians' moribund bats, it was more than enough damage for Williams to be handed his sixth loss. Williams has now failed to make it through the fifth inning in three of his last four appearances, tallying a 7.36 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over 18.1 innings during that stretch. With a banged-up bullpen and a playoff push ahead for Cleveland, they'll continue to rely upon Williams to regain his form during the stretch run. He'll look to bounce back during his next start, slated to take place at home against the Royals.

  • Guardians' Gavin Williams: Coughs up five runs

Williams (2-5) allowed five runs on six hits and two walks over four innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against Milwaukee.

Williams stumbled out of the gate and coughed up a three-run homer to Willy Adames in the first inning. The Brewers then scored runs in the third and fourth frames. Williams has given up at least five runs in three of his nine starts this season, resulting in a 5.02 ERA across 43 innings. He's allowed 12 runs over his last four starts but 11 of those have come in two outings. Williams is lined up for a tough road matchup against the Yankees next week.
