Player Outlook
Pierson Ohl struggled in his first stint in the majors with a 5.10 ERA and 1.50 WHIP last season but underlying metrics show he could improve and win a high-leverage bullpen role. Ohl had a strong 2.0 BB/9 at Triple-A and he displayed good control with a 2.1 BB/9 in the majors. His 9.96 K/9 at Triple-A show his 8.1 K/9 in the majors could improve. He was victimized by a .351 BABIP and 13.2% HR/FB% in the majors which may have inflated his ERA. Ohl has a plus change-up and toyed around with knuckleball, so he could improve his off-speed mix. After he was traded to the Rockies in January, he'll compete in a wide open bullpen competition this spring.

  • Rockies' Pierson Ohl: Flipped to Rockies

The Rockies acquired Ohl and Edouard Julien from the Twins on Wednesday in exchange for Jace Kaminska and cash considerations. Ohl had been designated for assignment by the Twins and is now on the move to a new organization. The 26-year-old posted a 5.10 ERA and 27:7 K:BB over 30 innings with the Twins and held a 2.40 ERA and 86:11 K:BB across 71.1 frames in the minors in 2025. Ohl has rotation and bullpen experience but will most likely settle into a relief role in Colorado.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Removed from 40-man

The Twins designated Ohl for assignment Friday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Ohl will give up his spot on the 40-man roster for Taylor Rogers, whose signing became official Friday. Ohl broke into the majors for the first time in 2025 but produced mixed results, finishing with a 5.10 ERA and 1.50 WHIP through 30 innings with the Twins. He showed promise in the minors while posting a 2.58 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over 66.1 frames between Double-A and Triple-A, so he could still land on another team's 40-man roster.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Promoted Sunday

The Twins recalled Ohl from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Ohl was called up for his MLB debut in late August and had a 5.66 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB over 20.2 innings (seven appearances) before being sent back to Triple-A. The right-hander is now back in the big leagues and is likely to operate as a long reliever.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Hit around by Tigers in third loss

Ohl dropped to 0-3 in Friday's 7-0 loss to the Tigers after striking out one batter while giving up seven runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks in 2.1 innings. Making his third start in five appearances with the Twins, Ohl was deployed as more of an opener but was still hit around in the abbreviated appearance. The rookie right-hander established season worsts in both runs and hits allowed, though a fielding error by Luke Keaschall in the first inning prevented more damage from being done to his ERA. Ohl has a 7.90 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB over his first 13.2 innings in the majors, and his current role as a swingman doesn't give him much of a clear path to fantasy viability.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Receiving start Friday

Ohl is listed as the Twins' starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Tigers at Target Field. Ohl made his most recent appearance out of the bullpen, tossing 2.2 scoreless frames in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Royals. The rookie right-hander has previously made two starts for Minnesota and made another five starts in the minors earlier this season, but he has yet to cover more than four innings in any outing. As such, Ohl will likely be deployed as more of an opener than a traditional starter Friday, with Jose Urena available to work in bulk relief behind him.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Works out of bullpen Sunday

Ohl didn't record a strikeout and allowed one hit and one walk over 2.2 scoreless innings of relief in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Royals in 11 innings. Ohl made a 2.2-inning start in his previous appearance Wednesday against the Tigers before moving back to the bullpen this weekend. He entered the game in the top of the fifth inning and was able to preserve the Twins' one-run lead before being lifted midway through the seventh, enabling him to come away with his first career hold. The Twins still have an open spot in the rotation that will need to be filled Tuesday against the Yankees, but given his usage Sunday, Ohl is unlikely to serve as anything more than an opener if he draws the start that day.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Rejoins big club

The Twins recalled Ohl from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday. Ohl made his MLB debut Tuesday, taking a loss to the Red Sox while allowing four earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over three innings. Though he was optioned to Triple-A immediately after that contest, Ohl is eligible to rejoin Minnesota two days later after the Twins had several openings on the 26-man active roster following Thursday's trade deadline. Though he started and tossed 72 pitches against Boston, Ohl could end up working out of the bullpen during his upcoming stint with the Twins. Minnesota still has an opening in the rotation that it will need to fill during next week's series in Detroit, but trade-deadline pickups Taj Bradley and Mick Abel could end up getting the call over Ohl to step in as the club's new No. 5 starter.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Set for MLB debut Tuesday

The Twins plan to call Ohl up from Triple-A St. Paul to start or pitch in bulk relief in Tuesday's game versus the Red Sox, Theodore Tollefson of ZoneCoverage.com reports. Ohl began the season as a reliever at Single-A Fort Myers, but he has been excellent across three levels while splitting time between the bullpen and rotation, posting a 2.17 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 79:10 K:BB over 66.1 frames. The 25-year-old hasn't worked more than four innings or thrown more than 68 pitches in an outing this season, so he will have a relatively limited workload Tuesday.
