Player Outlook
It was a borderline lost season for Jett Williams in 2024, as he landed on the Double-A injured list in late-April with a wrist injury that required a cortisone injection and then surgery. All told, Williams missed four months with the wrist issue and then he sprained his ankle late in the Arizona Fall League season. He had a great six-game run at Triple-A to close the regular season, but Williams' stats were generally below expectations, although it's tough to say how much the wrist issue affected his play. He had a 24.4 percent strikeout rate and a 13.7 percent walk rate across Double-A and Triple-A as a 20-year-old, so his command of the zone was apparent, but he didn't hit any home runs until the AFL, where he slashed .225/.376/.388 with two home runs, seven steals and a 30:17 K:BB in 101 plate appearances. Williams has a very good eye at the plate, and sometimes he knows the zone better than the minor-league umpires, but he only made contact at a 71.3 percent clip at Double-A, so there was more swing and miss last year than expected. A sturdy, athletic 5-foot-6 middle infielder whose 70-grade speed could allow a move to center field, Williams has shades of Corbin Carroll from a raw tools standpoint. The home park at Double-A Binghamton is especially harsh for right-handed hitters, which could allow for a buy-low opportunity in dynasty leagues.

  • Mets' Jett Williams: Shifted to minor-league camp

The Mets reassigned Williams to minor-league camp Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Following a 2024 season that saw Williams deal with wrist and ankle injuries, he appeared in seven Grapefruit League games this spring, going 2-for-11 with an RBI, a run scored and four walks. The 21-year-old prospect will most likely begin the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Syracuse and could crack the big leagues later this season if he can return to pre-injury form.

  • Mets' Jett Williams: Nets spring invite

The Mets have extended Williams an invitation to major-league camp during spring training. Fellow top prospects Ryan Clifford and Brandon Sproat will join Williams on the big-league side of spring camp. Williams, 21, missed four months of the 2024 season due to wrist surgery and slashed only .215/.358/.298 with zero home runs and five steals in 33 games across three levels. However, Williams remains an intriguing dynasty option due to his on-base skills and speed. He's pegged for Triple-A Syracuse to begin the season, but a bounce-back year could have him pushing to debut sometime in 2025.

  • Mets' Jett Williams: Sprains ankle in AFL

Williams was diagnosed with a sprained right ankle Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Williams left Thursday's Arizona Fall League contest after running into the outfield fence. The severity of the sprain is not yet known, but the issue is not expected to interfere with his offseason work.

  • Mets' Jett Williams: Completes rehab assignment

Double-A Binghamton activated Williams (wrist) from the 60-day injured list Friday. Williams went four months between his injury and the beginning of his rehab assignment after needing a triangular fibrocartilage complex debridement procedure in his right wrist. The ever-patient shortstop hit .250 with four walks, three strikeouts, two steals and zero extra-base hits in five rehab games. Williams has proven to be an on-base machine (career .417 OBP), as he knows the strike zone very well, but he also has plus-plus speed and good bat speed at the plate, so he could turn into a five-category contributor once he matures and fills out.

  • Mets' Jett Williams: Targeting late-May return

Williams (wrist) received a cortisone injection last week, and he won't begin swinging a bat again until it's fully taken effect, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 20-year-old prospect was shut down April 21 due to right wrist soreness and hasn't played since. Williams was struggling in his first look at Double-A pitching, slashing .179/.360/.308, but a wrist issue could help explain the poor performance. Per Mets senior vice president of player development Andy Green, the team is hoping Williams will be back in the lineup for Double-A Binghamton by the end of the month.

  • Mets' Jett Williams: Getting on base at Single-A

Williams is hitting .207 with a .401 OBP, one home run and 13 steals in 34 games for Single-A St. Lucie. The 19-year-old shortstop has a strong batted-ball profile, with a 32 percent groundball rate and all-fields approach, but it hasn't translated into a high batting average in the early going. Even as an undersized 5-foot-6 middle infielder, Williams is strong where it counts and is expected to eventually develop notable over-the-fence power to go with his 70-grade speed.

  • Mets' Jett Williams: Solid start in rookie ball

Williams has played in 10 games for the Mets' Florida Coast League affiliate, putting up a .250/.366/.438 line with a homer, six steals and a 4:6 BB:K. He's certainly living up to his name on the basepaths, as Williams has succeeded on all of his steal attempts. The 14th overall pick in this year's draft, the 18-year-old Williams is years and years away from the majors, but he's off to a fine start to his professional career.
