  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Grabs sixth win

Gaddis (6-3) allowed a run on three hits over one inning to earn the win over the Reds on Wednesday. Gaddis allowed the tying run in the top of the eighth inning, but the Guardians responded with a three-run home run by Jose Ramirez. Gaddis was charged with a blown save, his first since April 30 and his fifth of the year, but he was also able to pick up his second win in a week. The right-hander has been an excellent setup man in his first full major-league campaign, posting a 1.59 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 65:14 K:BB across 73.2 innings while adding 34 holds.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Snags extra-inning win

Gaddis (5-3) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out one over one inning to earn the extra-inning win over the Twins on Wednesday. This marks the first time Gaddis has given up multiple runs since July 29, and it's just the fifth time it's happened all year. The right-hander was bailed out by the Guardians' rally in the bottom of the 10th inning this time around, earning his first win since July 24. Gaddis has a 1.55 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 64:14 K:BB with 34 holds and four blown saves over 69.2 innings in a setup role this year.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Earns 20th hold

Gaddis allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn a hold in Friday's 7-0 win over the Padres. Gaddis pitched in the eighth inning and protected a one-run lead before the Guardians' offense erupted. This was Gaddis' 20th hold of the season, and he's earned eight of them during a 17-inning scoreless streak dating back to June 7. The right-hander has been a pleasant surprise in his first full year in the bullpen, pitching to a 1.17 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 44:7 K:BB while adding a 3-2 record in a setup role.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Stuck with loss Thursday

Gaddis (3-2) took the loss Thursday versus the Royals, allowing one run on two hits over one inning. Gaddis gave up the go-ahead run on a Kyle Isbel single in the eighth inning. This ended Gaddis' scoreless streak at 13.1 innings and gave him his first loss since April 30. The right-hander has been excellent in a setup role this year with a 1.84 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 26:5 K:BB to go with 13 holds over 29.1 innings. As long as this setback doesn't become a slump, he should continue to help the Guardians hold leads in the late innings.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Picks up third win

Gaddis (3-1) allowed a hit and struck out three without walking a batter over 1.1 innings to earn the win over the Mets on Wednesday. Gaddis was the beneficiary of the Guardians' comeback push Wednesday, picking up his second win in five outings. The right-hander hasn't allowed a run over 9.1 innings in May while adding a 7:1 K:BB, two wins and four holds for the month. He's thriving in a high-leverage role in his first year as a full-time reliever, posting a 1.85 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB with 11 holds and three blown saves over 24.1 innings this season.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Blows save, takes loss

Gaddis (1-1) blew the save and took the loss Tuesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit with one strikeout across two-thirds of an inning against Houston. Gaddis took the mound in the 10th inning with a one-run lead but surrendered a two-out, two-run walk-off homer to Victor Caratini. Gaddis has logged a blown save in three straight appearances -- his only save chances of the campaign -- with six runs (five earned) allowed across three innings, after failing to surrender a run in his first 12.1 innings of action this season.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Earns first win

Gaddis (1-0) earned the win, allowing a hit in two-thirds of an inning without being charged with a run Thursday versus the Red Sox. He did not strike out or walk a batter. Gaddis allowed an inherited runner to score, which cut the Guardians' lead to 5-4 at the time. He was able to escape the jam, and he was ultimately credited with the win despite being the third reliever to pitch after starter Triston McKenzie. Gaddis has not been charged with a run over 12.1 innings this season, adding a 16:3 K:BB and six holds across 13 appearances. The right-hander's strong start to the campaign has earned him a setup role, though Thursday's outing shows that he's trusted to work in any high-leverage situation.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Quickly ascending leverage ladder

Gaddis walked one and struck out two in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn his fifth hold of the season Saturday versus the Athletics. Gaddis had struggled primarily as a starter over parts of the last two seasons, but he's thriving as a reliever so far. He's got a 15:3 K:BB while allowing just four hits and no runs over 10.2 innings to begin the campaign. Gaddis was expected to be more of a middle reliever initially, but he's looking more like a setup man after his hot start, which is especially impressive considering how strong the Guardians' bullpen has been. Gaddis has also been able to unlock more velocity in shorter outings -- per Statcast, his fastball is averaging 96.3 mph this year after sitting at 93.4 mph over the previous two years. He's also tightened his pitch arsenal, dropping his curveball and cutter while using his slider and changeup as his offspeed offerings.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Shaping up as reliever

Gaddis has allowed two runs on four hits, one walk and two hit batsmen while striking out seven over 5.2 innings across four Cactus League appearances. Gaddis hasn't started any of his outings this spring, which suggests he's not in serious contention for a rotation spot. He's started nine of his 13 major-league appearances over the last two years, but the results have been mediocre at best. Gaddis doesn't have great strikeout numbers in the majors and his velocity sits around 93.5 mph, so he may be best suited for a long-relief role if he makes the big-league roster out of camp.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Recalled for start Thursday

Gaddis was recalled from Triple-A Columbus ahead of his start Thursday versus the Orioles. Gaddis has struggled to a 6.14 ERA in 73.1 innings this season at the Triple-A level and owns an ugly 6.99 ERA and 28:15 K:BB in 46.1 career major-league frames. The 25-year-old right-hander is not a recommended fantasy streamer against Baltimore.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Getting start Thursday

Gaddis will be recalled from Triple-A Columbus to start for the Guardians on Thursday against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Gaddis will be taking over the rotation spot vacated by Tanner Bibee (hip), who was placed on the 15-day injured list earlier this week. Over 10 appearances (six starts) with Cleveland this season, Gaddis has put up a 4.85 ERA over 10 appearances. Gaddis might receive just the one start, as the Guardians are poised to get Shane Bieber (elbow) and Triston McKenzie (elbow) back from the 60-day injured list in the coming days.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Brought up as 27th man

The Guardians added Gaddis from Triple-A Columbus to serve as their 27th man Thursday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Because Wednesday's game with the Dodgers ended up spilling into Thursday due to rain, the Guardians will be allowed to use Gaddis as an extra man in their bullpen. The 25-year-old righty has put up a 5.17 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through 31.1 frames in the majors this season, and he will likely return to Columbus immediately after Thursday's contest.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Six scoreless innings in win

Gaddis (1-1) earned the win Monday, tossing six scoreless innings in which he allowed two hits and one walk during a 3-0 win over the White Sox. He struck out four. After a month at Triple-A Columbus, Gaddis was called up to the big-league club ahead of Monday's contest and made his sixth start of the season. It was the second time he completed at least six scoreless frames, lowering his ERA from 6.86 to 5.26. Gaddis hasn't been a major strikeout pitcher yet, but he's been able to take care of business more often than not in 2023, as the majority of the damage done to his ERA came during a tumultuous outing versus the Yankees on April 11. Gaddis figures to get at least one more turn in the rotation after his stellar outing against Chicago, but he's not guaranteed a spot in the rotation when Triston McKenzie (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (oblique) finish their rehab assignments.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Officially called up

Gaddis was called up from Triple-A Columbus and will start Monday against the White Sox, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports. As expected, Gaddis will join the Guardians ahead of their three-game series with the White Sox on Monday, drawing the start in the series opener. The 25-year-old has struggled to a 6.86 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 19.2 innings in the big leagues this season, but most of the damage came April 11 against the Yankees, when he surrendered eight runs over three frames. Gaddis will look to kick off his second stint in the big leagues a little better Monday when he takes on a disappointing Chicago team.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: En route to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Gaddis to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday. As expected, Gaddis will return to the minors after he was called up from Columbus to serve as the Guardians' 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader with the Marlins. Though he turned in a scoreless two-inning relief appearance in Cleveland's 6-1 loss in Game 1, Gaddis' poor body of work in four starts with the big club earlier this season has removed him from consideration for a spot in the Guardians' rotation at this time. Instead, Logan Allen -- who was promoted from Triple-A to take the hill for Sunday's series finale with Miami -- will at least temporarily settle in as the Guardians' new No. 5 starter.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Demoted to Triple-A

Cleveland optioned Gaddis to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. The 25-year-old is being sent down to make room for infield prospect Brayan Rocchio on the 26-man active roster. Gaddis struggled for the most part over his four starts with the big club this season, logging a 7.64 ERA and 12:6 K:BB over 17.2 innings. The Guardians could turn to Gaddis to make starts again, but there are other internal options (Tanner Bibee, Xzavion Curry, Konnor Pilkington) that could get the chance before the right-hander receives another opportunity.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Fires six shutout frames

Gaddis was tagged with a no-decision against Oakland on Wednesday despite pitching six scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four batters. Gaddis gave up four runs over 3.2 innings against Seattle in his season debut, but he was much improved against the A's. The right-hander gave up only one hit -- a Jesus Aguilar double -- and breezed through six innings on 77 pitches. He departed in line for the win, but Cleveland's bullpen couldn't hold the lead as the game eventually went into extra innings. Gaddis is in the rotation due to Triston McKenzie's arm injury, and his performance Wednesday will almost certainly earn him at least another start. His next outing may be more challenging, however, as it's tentatively lined up to come against the Yankees.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Early exit against M's

Gaddis didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 9-4 win over the Mariners, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk over 3.2 innings. He struck out four. While the right-hander was able to keep the ball in the park, Gaddis gave up plenty of loud contact as three of the five hits off him went for extra bases. He also produced only five swinging strikes among his 70 pitches, a poor recipe for future success. Gaddis will hold down the fort in the rotation for now while Triston McKenzie (shoulder) is sidelined, but another shaky start or two could cause him to get bumped aside, whether by another depth option like Konnor Pilkington or by a top prospect who has a hot start at Triple-A, such as Tanner Bibee.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Starting second game of season

Gaddis is scheduled to start the Guardians' second game of the season Friday versus the Mariners in Seattle, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Gaddis appeared poised to open the season in a long-relief role, but he'll end up moving into Cleveland's rotation as a replacement for Triston McKenzie (shoulder), who could be sidelined for up to eight weeks. Gaddis has piled up a good number of strikeouts in the minors, but he's struggled against lefties and with keeping the ball in the yard. Fantasy managers should probably look in another direction.

  • Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Expected to move into rotation

Gaddis is expected to move into the Guardians' rotation to replace the injured Triston McKenzie (shoulder), Mandy Bell and Jesus Cano of MLB.com report. Gaddis had been projected for a bullpen role, but it should be a seamless transition since he's still stretched out from spring training. The right-hander pitched well during Cactus League play with a 2.77 ERA and 17:3 K:BB over 13 innings. Gaddis was much less successful in two spot starts for Cleveland in 2022 (18.41 ERA), but he struck out 158 across 121.1 frames between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. With McKenzie potentially sidelined for two months, Gaddis could get a long look in the rotation.
