  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Rejoining big-league club

The Nationals recalled Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. With CJ Abrams heading down to the minors for the final week-plus of the season, Lipscomb will return to Washington to bolster the Nats' infield depth. The 24-year-old owns just a .515 OPS through 204 plate appearances in the big leagues this season, and he will almost certainly be limited to a bench role while Nasim Nunez takes over for Abrams at shortstop.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Sent down to Rochester

The Nationals optioned Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports. After being recalled by the Nationals on July 6, Lipscomb slowly saw his playing time dwindle as he struggled to a .152/.211/.182 slash line with a 23.6 percent strikeout rate across 71 plate appearances. With Ildemaro Vargas establishing a regular role at the hot corner, Lipscomb will go back down to Rochester, where he will have an everyday role at third base. Jose Tena was recalled from Rochester in a corresponding move.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: On bench again Thursday

Lipscomb is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants. The righty-hitting Lipscomb had already been excluded from the starting nine in four of the Nationals' last six matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he'll now find himself on the bench Thursday against a lefty (Kyle Harrison). Lipscomb already seems to have lost hold of a regular role at third base to Ildemaro Vargas, and a demotion to the minors could be imminent for the 24-year-old Lipscomb, who is slashing just .152/.211/.182 since he was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on July 6.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Idle again

Lipscomb is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants. Lipscomb will cede third-base duties to Ildemaro Vargas for a second consecutive game. It hasn't been announced that Lipscomb is dealing with an injury, so it seems like his playing time is declining. Lipscomb is 4-for-37 (.108) at the plate since the All-Star break while Vargas is 10-for-30 (.333) during that stretch.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Not starting Friday

Lipscomb is out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Brewers. It's the second straight game on the bench for Lispcomb after he finished July with a .167/.206/.200 slash line and 27 percent strikeout rate over 17 games. Ildemaro Vargas, who posted a .731 OPS last month, will receive another start at third base and could receive more consistent playing time if Lipscomb continues to struggle.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Out of Washington lineup

Lipscomb is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Arizona, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Lipscomb will take a seat while he's managed a lowly .406 OPS thus far in July. Ildemaro Vargas will fill in for him at third base as the Nationals try to avoid a sweep.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Out of Sunday's lineup

Lipscomb is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at St. Louis. Lipscomb started the first two games of the series but will sit for Sunday's finale while in the midst of a 3-for-25 slump. Ildemaro Vargas will man the hot corner and bat seventh for Washington.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Recalled by Washington

The Nationals recalled Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday. Lipscomb will begin his fourth stint in the majors this season, as he takes the spot on the 26-man roster vacated by Nick Senzel, who was designated for assignment. After being optioned to Rochester on June 24, Lipscomb went 15-for-38 with five doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI. He will start at third base and bat eighth in Saturday's game against the Cardinals, per Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Call-up official

The Nationals recalled Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday. As expected, Washington placed Joey Gallo (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Lipscomb. Though he stole 10 bases over 121 plate appearances with the Nationals earlier this season, the 23-year-old slashed just .252/.331/.290 and has been even more unproductive at the Triple-A level (.576 OPS in 98 plate appearances). He could have to settle for a short-side platoon role while he's up with the Nationals, as manager Dave Martinez could first turn to Joey Meneses to replace Gallo as a regular in the lineup.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Bound for big leagues

The Nationals plan to call up Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Wednesday's game in Detroit, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. He'll likely join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for first baseman/outfielder Joey Gallo, who is expected to go on the 10-day injured list after straining his hamstring in Tuesday's 5-4 win. Between his previous two stints in the majors this season, Lipscomb slashed an underwhelming .252/.331/.290 over 121 plate appearances, though he contributed 10 stolen bases on 11 attempts. Lipscomb had served mostly as an everyday player at third base when he was up with the Nationals earlier this season, but he could be relegated to a short-side platoon role if Washington elects to have Joey Meneses replace Gallo as a regular in the lineup.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Sent to Triple-A

Lipscomb was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Friday. Lipscomb will cede his big-league spot to Joey Gallo (shoulder), who was activated from the 10-day IL on Friday. Lipscomb has been the Nationals' everyday third baseman during the last few weeks and owns a .252/.331/.290 slash line with 10 stolen bases on the year. Nick Senzel and Ildemaro Vargas should see plenty of action at third base moving forward.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Three runs in comeback win

Lipscomb went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Marlins. Getting the start at third base and batting sixth, Lipscomb played a big role as the Nationals made a stunning comeback from an early 7-0 deficit, eventually winning 12-9. The rookie has been getting consistent playing time since returning to the majors April 24, and he's responded with three straight multi-hit performances to boost his slash line on the season to .292/.356/.354 with one homer, five steals, four RBI and 13 runs in 73 plate appearances. Lipscomb has started all three of those games at third base, while Nick Senzel handles DH duties and Jesse Winker moves to left field. Expect the Nats to continue finding room for Lipscomb in the lineup as long as he's swinging a hot bat.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Sitting Thursday

Lipscomb isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Lipscomb will take a seat after going 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored during Wednesday's 11-2 loss. Joey Meneses will start at first base in his absence, while Jesse Winker serves as Washington's designated hitter.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Will see playing time at first base

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Wednesday that Lipscomb will play a good amount of first base as Joey Gallo shifts to right field, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Gallo has been the team's regular first baseman, but he will receive reps in right field now with Lane Thomas (knee) sidelined indefinitely. Lipscomb will play multiple positions, per Martinez, but he is starting at first base Wednesday in Atlanta and could receive the lion's share of starts there for the time being. The 23-year-old posted a .563 OPS with one home run and four stolen bases over 14 games with the Nationals earlier this month.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Officially recalled

The Nationals recalled Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday. Lipscomb is taking the roster spot vacated by outfielder Lane Thomas (knee), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The rookie posted a .563 OPS with one home run and four stolen bases over 14 games with the Nationals earlier this month and could get some reps at third base if the club wants to use Senzel in the outfield as a fill-in for Thomas.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Joins team in Washington

Lipscomb has joined the Nationals' taxi squad and could be called up from Triple-A Rochester prior to Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Outfielder Lane Thomas is getting an MRI on his left knee after exiting Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Dodgers, and the expectation is that he'll require a trip to the injured list. Lipscomb put up a .563 OPS with one home run and four stolen bases over 14 games with the Nationals earlier this month. He could see action at third base if the club elects to use Nick Senzel in the outfield or in the designated hitter spot in place of Thomas.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Optioned to Triple-A

Lipscomb was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Lipscomb got regular at-bats at third base while Nick Senzel was on the injured list, but with Senzel back in action Lipscomb will head back to Rochester to play every day. The 23-year-old has slashed .224/.278/.286 with one home run and four stolen bases over 14 games with the big club.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Cracks first big-league homer

Lipscomb went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Sunday's loss to the Reds. In his second MLB game, the 23-year-old infielder drove a 91.6 mph fastball from Buck Farmer the other way over the right-field fence in the seventh inning for his first career homer. Lipscomb has carried his blistering spring into the regular season, going 3-for-7 with a homer and a steal to kick off his career, and he had a golden opportunity in front of him to lock down the starting job at third base while Nick Senzel (thumb) is sidelined.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Officially selected to MLB roster

The Nationals selected Lipscomb's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Lipscomb will officially get his first look in the majors after Nick Senzel (thumb) landed on the injured list Saturday. The 23-year-old prospect was only able to reach Double-A last season, but a .400/.455/.540 slash line during spring training makes it reasonable to think he can find early success in the majors. Lipscomb is capable of playing across the infield but will likely play most often at third base as Senzel's replacement.

  • Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Promotion imminent

The Nationals plan to call up Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Saturday's game against the Reds, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Lipscomb had an impressive showing in spring training, posting a .400/.455/.540 line while striking out seven times across 55 plate appearances. He was reassigned to minor-league camp earlier this week, though the injury to Nick Senzel (hand) will open up a roster spot. Lipscomb is capable of playing any infield position and appeared primarily at second base in the exhibition season. However, his clearest path to regular at-bats immediately looks to be at third base.
