  • Yankees' Will Warren: Sent back to minors

The Yankees optioned Warren to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Saturday's game versus Pittsburgh. Warren pitched the ninth inning of Saturday's loss, allowing three earned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out three batters. His poor outing will give him a 10.32 ERA to finish the season through 22.2 innings in the majors.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Back in majors

The Yankees recalled Warren from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. Warren owns a 9.55 ERA and 1.85 WHIP over 21.2 innings across five big-league starts this season, and it seems likely he'll be available out of the bullpen for New York during the final two games of the regular season. Cody Poteet was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Allows four runs in loss

Warren (0-3) took the loss against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over four innings. Warren yielded four runs in the third inning, including a three-run home run to Brendan Donovan. The rookie generated just five whiffs on 76 pitches and has now surrendered four earned runs or more in four of his five starts with the Yankees. He owns a 9.55 ERA and 1.85 WHIP through 21.2 major-league innings and will likely cede his spot in the rotation upon the return of Luis Gil (back) or Clarke Schmidt (lat).

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Starting Saturday

Warren will start Saturday's game against the Rockies at Yankee Stadium, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. Warren was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday to take Luis Gil's (back) spot on the active roster, and he'll now slot into Gil's spot in the rotation this weekend. In three big-league starts this season, Warren has an 8.59 ERA with a 17:5 K:BB, though those numbers are skewed heavily by an eight-run start against the Angels on Aug. 7.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Sent back to minors

The Yankees optioned Warren to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports. Warren turned in a solid spot start in Wednesday's 10-2 win over the White Sox, taking a no-decision while allowing two runs over five frames. He'll rejoin the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rotation and would likely be the first hurler called upon when/if the Yankees need another starter.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Does fine in spot start

Warren allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out five without walking a batter over five innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox on Wednesday. Warren exited with the Yankees down 2-1, but they rallied for nine runs between the seventh and eighth innings. This was the best of Warren's three appearances in the majors this season. He's allowed 14 runs over 14.2 innings while posting a 17:5 K:BB. The 25-year-old is expected to be sent back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the near future since this was likely just a spot start to build in some rest for the Yankees' other starters.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Promotion coming Wednesday

Warren will be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. Although Warren was lit up for eight earned runs in just 4.1 innings during his second MLB start against the Angels last Wednesday before being returned to Triple-A, the Yankees will turn to him again to get them through the series finale. In addition to his poor big-league performance, the 25-year-old righty owns a 6.11 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 95.2 innings in Triple-A. He will have the benefit of facing the worst offense in the majors, but he is still not a recommended streaming option. The Yankees are likely to send Warren back to Triple-A following Wednesday's contest.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Returned to Triple-A

The Yankees returned Warren to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Angels. Making his second MLB start in the second game of the twin bill, Warren struggled mightily, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out six batters in 4.1 innings en route to taking a loss. He'll now head back to Triple-A, where he has also languished to the tune of a 6.11 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 95.2 frames.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Officially promoted

The Yankees recalled Warren from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of his start in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Angels. Warren will work as the Yankees' 27th man Wednesday, and he'll most likely be sent back to Triple-A after making his start in the nightcap. The 25-year-old righty surrendered four earned runs in 5.1 innings during his only other start in the majors this season, and he owns a 6.11 ERA across 20 starts in the minors.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Demoted after MLB debut

The Yankees optioned Warren to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Warren was called up from Triple-A to make his MLB debut Tuesday versus the Phillies while filling in for Gerrit Cole, who is expected to miss just one start while dealing with general fatigue. The young right-hander worked 5.1 innings in his start, giving up four earned runs on four hits and two walks while fanning six hitters in a no-decision in the Yankees' 7-6 win in 12 innings. The 25-year-old had turned in a 6.11 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 20 starts in the minors prior to receiving a promotion.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Goes 5.1 innings in debut

Warren did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Phillies, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out six. Warren pitched better than his final line would indicate. He got off to a rough start in his major-league debut, allowing a run in the first inning before surrendering a three-run homer to Austin Hays in the second -- however, the 25-year-old right-hander would hold the Phillies scoreless over his final 3.1 frames while striking out the side against the heart of Philadelphia's order in the fifth. Warren figures to head back to Triple-A with Gerrit Cole (general fatigue) expected to return this weekend, though he should be on the short list of potential call-ups should the Yankees need pitching reinforcements down the stretch.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Drawing spot start Tuesday

The Yankees will call up Warren from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Tuesday's game against the Phillies, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. Gerrit Cole was slated to start Tuesday's game but was scratched due to general body fatigue. Warren will take Cole's place and make his MLB debut. Though Warren owns a 6.11 ERA across 20 Triple-A starts, he's allowed more than three runs just twice in his last 10 appearances. The right-hander has struck out 115 batters in 95.2 innings.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Could get a shot in rotation

Warren is a candidate to step into a starting role to open the season if Gerrit Cole (elbow) needs to miss time, Max Goodman of NJ Advance Media reports. Warren allowed one run in three innings in a Grapefruit League game against the Orioles on Monday, and he's posted a 3.52 ERA over 7.2 frames overall this spring. The right-hander has struck out eight over that span but has also allowed nine hits and three walks. Still, the overall impression he has made has been positive, and the Yankees will likely be looking to fill a rotation spot (at least in the short term) with Cole having recently gotten an MRI and now set for additional testing on his pitching elbow. While Warren will likely be under consideration for a starting role if Cole does indeed need to miss time, he wouldn't be the lone candidate, with fellow youngster Clayton Beeter -- who has also had a strong spring and who, unlike Warren, is already on the 40-man roster -- probably representing his stiffest competition, with Luis Gil also in the mix.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Closing strong at Triple-A

Warren struck out a season-high 10 batters over five scoreless innings Sunday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Warren has one of the better sliders at Triple-A and a pair of low-to-mid 90s fastballs, with him throwing his sinker more often while getting more whiffs off the four-seamer. That sinker/slider combo has helped him generate groundballs at a 51.8 percent clip at Triple-A. Warren has come on strong, logging a 2.13 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 57 strikeouts in 50.2 innings over his last nine starts. He could join the big-league rotation sometime next year.

  • Yankees' Will Warren: Strikeout rate up at Double-A

Warren has a 2.45 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 29.1 innings for Double-A Somerset. The 23-year-old righty upped his strikeout rate from 20.6 percent in 18 Double-A starts last year to 32.2 percent in a return to the level this season. His walk rate has also jumped (from 8.2 percent to 9.9 percent), but his .371 BABIP is also to blame for his overlarge WHIP. Warren's middling strikeout rate in 2022 limited the offseason buzz, but he is trending up this season and should soon get a bump to Triple-A.
