Player Outlook
Tommy Troy, the No. 12 overall pick in 2023, turned 24 this offseason and will likely make his big-league debut sometime in 2026. He used his plus speed to steal 24 bases in 125 games across Double-A and Triple-A while hitting .289 with 15 home runs and a 16.9 precent strikeout rate. He was more effective at Double-A (121 wRC+) than at Triple-A (98 wRC+), and his groundball rate jumping from 41.6 percent to 51.9 percent was a primary factor. Amarillo and Reno are favorable home parks for hitters and Troy's .936 home OPS was almost 200 points higher than his .746 road OPS. The 5-foot-9 righty hitter projects as a second baseman who can move to shortstop, center field or left field when needed. He's not on the 40-man roster yet, but if he's producing at Triple-A, there will probably be room for Troy, even if it's just in a part-time role.

  • Diamondbacks' Tommy Troy: Strong spring continues

Troy started at second base and went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's spring game against the Athletics. Troy rapped three singles, including a pair to the opposite field, and upped his spring line to 11-for-21 (.425) along with four doubles, two RBI, three runs and one stolen base over nine Cactus League appearances. He can play both infield and outfield, but Arizona manager Torey Lovullo told Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports that the plan is keep Troy locked at second base for now.

  • Diamondbacks' Tommy Troy: Heating up for Hops

Troy is slashing .280/.333/.480 with two home runs, four doubles and two steals in 13 games in August for High-A Hillsboro. Prior to August, Troy was hitting .199 with one home run in 39 games (including rehab games) while dealing with a serious hamstring injury. This latest stretch is at least a sign that the talent that got him drafted with the No. 12 overall pick in last year's draft is still there.

  • Diamondbacks' Tommy Troy: Returning to High-A lineup

High-A Hillsboro reinstated Troy (hamstring) from the 7-day injured list Monday. Troy will rejoin the High-A club after he went 7-for-23 with a triple, three doubles, five RBI and three runs over his seven rehab games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. • Diamondbacks' Tommy Troy: Tracking toward mid-June return

Troy (hamstring) has taken live at-bats, but the organization is being conservative with his running program, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Troy, who landed on High-A Hillsboro's 7-day injured list April 26, is tracking toward a mid-June return, according to Diamondbacks farm director Shaun Larkin. Before straining his left hamstring, Troy appeared in 12 games for Hillsboro and slashed .184/.231/.286 with one home run and five stolen bases.

  • Diamondbacks' Tommy Troy: Out with hamstring strain

Troy will miss 4-to-6 weeks at High-A Hillsboro with a left hamstring strain, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. Lauded as one of the best prospects in Arizona's farm system, Troy has slashed .184/.231/.286 across 52 plate appearances in High-A to begin the season. If the 22-year-old infielder is able to bounce back at the plate once he returns from his injury in late May or early June, he could earn a promotion to Double-A Amarillo by the end of the season.

  • Diamondbacks' Tommy Troy: Undergoes surgery

Troy underwent surgery for a fractured foot last week, Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic reports. Troy showed up in the dugout at Chase Field on Tuesday wearing a walking boot on his left foot. The 21-year-old shortstop, who was selected with the 12th overall pick this summer, said he originally hurt the foot in March when he was hit by a pitch but played through the injury. Troy added that stitches are set to be removed in two weeks and expects a full offseason of training. He hit .394/.478/.699 this year at Stanford, then slashed .271/.374/.469 in 27 games between the Arizona Complex League and High-A Hillsboro.
