  • Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Idle against southpaw

Gonzalez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. The left-handed-hitting Gonzalez will head to the bench for the second time in the series while the Mets send another lefty starter (Sean Manaea) to the bump. Jared Triolo will step in for Gonzalez at shortstop and will bat eighth.

  • Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Third homer as Pirate

Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Brewers. Gonzalez led off the third inning with a home run, his third time going yard since joining the Pirates on July 11. He has taken over as Pittsburgh's primary shortstop since the All-Star break, starting nine of the team's last 11 games. While Gonzalez has flashed some power, he's also hitting just .178 in that 11-game span.

  • Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Taking seat against southpaw

Gonzalez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. The left-handed-hitting Gonzalez will retreat to the bench Monday while the Yankees send southpaw Ryan Weathers to the bump for the series opener. Since being acquired from the White Sox on July 10, Gonzalez has made both of his starts at shortstop and has gone 3-for-10 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs through his first four games with the Pirates.

  • Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Taking seat in Game 2

Gonzalez isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians. Gonzalez will get a chance to rest his legs after launching his first homer as a Pirate in the early game as part of a 2-for-4 effort. While he sits, Jared Triolo will get the nod at shortstop.

  • Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Added to active roster

The Pirates activated Gonzalez to the major-league roster Saturday. Gonzalez had been at Triple-A when the White Sox traded him to Pittsburgh on Friday, but he'll officially return to the majors to begin his tenure with the Pirates. He won't be in the lineup for the final game of Saturday's doubleheader, though Injuries to Spencer Horwitz (hamstring) and Konnor Griffin (finger) could open up opportunities for Gonzalez to get starting reps with Pittsburgh.

  • Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Traded to Pirates

The White Sox traded Gonzalez and Brandon Eisert to the Pirates on Friday in exchange for minor-league reliever Jaden Woods and the 34th pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. After sending him down to Triple-A earlier in the day, the White Sox will now send Gonzalez out to Pittsburgh to help bolster the Pirates' infield depth. The 24-year-old has slashed .244/.323/.360 across 97 plate appearances in the majors since making his MLB debut May 31, but he boasts a 1.040 OPS at the Triple-A level. With Konnor Griffin (finger) expected to miss multiple months and Spencer Horwitz (hamstring) also on the IL, Gonzalez could get an opportunity to contribute right away for the big club.

  • White Sox's Jacob Gonzalez: Sitting against southpaw

Gonzalez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Gonzalez will head to the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Andrew Benintendi and Tristan Peters while the Red Sox send southpaw Jake Bennett to the bump. Miguel Vargas will move over from his usual spot at third base to cover first base in place of Gonzalez.

  • White Sox's Jacob Gonzalez: Three more RBI in Tuesday's win

Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Orioles. The rookie infielder drove in three runs for a second straight game as he enjoys his trip to Baltimore, and Gonzalez has erupted for 12 total RBI in the last five contests. Since making his big-league debut May 31, Gonzalez has delivered a .260/.341/.397 slash line with two homers, 11 runs and 17 RBI in 24 games.

  • White Sox's Jacob Gonzalez: Exiting starting nine

Gonzalez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians. Gonzalez will head to the bench while the White Sox go with Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery as their starters in the corner infield Monday. Since being called up from Triple-A Charlotte on May 30, the left-handed-hitting Gonzalez has mostly been spared from matchups with left-handed pitching but has still struggled to a .167/.273/.229 slash line over 55 plate appearances. Gonzalez will likely be headed back to Charlotte once Munetaka Murakami (hamstring) is ready to return from the injured list.
