Cardinals' Quinn Mathews: Set to resume throwing
Mathews (shoulder) will resume a throwing program Wednesday or Thursday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
The top prospect was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Memphis last week with mild left shoulder soreness, an issue Mathews believe arose because his mechanics got out of whack. He's been doing resistance-band and weighted plyometric ball work and the resumption of a throwing program is imminent. It's not clear when Mathews might be ready to rejoin the Memphis rotation. He's struggled in the early going this season, holding a 6.10 ERA and 7:15 K:BB over his first 10.1 innings.

Cardinals' Quinn Mathews: On Triple-A IL with sore shoulder
Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said that Mathews was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Memphis on Sunday due to left shoulder soreness, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Mozeliak was unwilling to put a timeline on Mathews' return to action. Mathews' velocity was down in his last outing with Memphis on Friday, and he's posted a 6.10 ERA and 7:15 K:BB over his first 10.1 innings this season, so it's possible the shoulder has been nagging at him for a while. The Cardinals will proceed cautiously with the top prospect.

Cardinals' Quinn Mathews: Goes on 7-day IL at Triple-A
Triple-A Memphis placed Mathews on the 7-day injured list Sunday due to an undisclosed injury.
Mathews' velocity was down significantly in his last start for Memphis on Friday, and he has posted a 6.10 ERA and 7:15 K:BB over his first 10.1 innings this season. The Cardinals could have more specifics on the top prospect's injury soon.

Cardinals' Quinn Mathews: Misses out on Opening Day rotation
The Cardinals reassigned Mathews to minor-league camp Sunday.
Though Mathews is regarded as one of St. Louis' top pitching prospects, he was always facing an uphill battle to win a spot in the Opening Day rotation after having made just four starts above the Double-A level. The 24-year-old southpaw should still make his MLB debut at some point in 2025, but for now, the Cardinals will send him to minor-league camp to open up more innings in Grapefruit League play for other rotation candidates. He'll continue to stay in a starter's schedule at minor-league camp, with Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com noting that Mathews will cover three innings Sunday in a game on the back fields.

Cardinals' Quinn Mathews: Dazzles in spring debut
Mathews fanned three batters while allowing two hits and one walk over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays.
The reigning minor-league strikeout leader set down Vladimir Guerrero swinging in a perfect first inning before adding a pair of strikeouts in the second to escape a bases-loaded jam. Mathews has an outside shot to win a spot in the Cardinals' rotation if he wows this spring, but he's most likely pegged for Triple-A Memphis. Even if he doesn't break camp with the big club, he's a good bet to spend a good chunk of 2025 in the St. Louis rotation.
