  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Sent back to Reno

The Diamondbacks optioned Diaz to Triple-A Reno on Thursday. Diaz made three appearances for the Diamondbacks after being recalled from Triple-A on Sept. 12, during which he allowed three earned runs over 8.1 innings while striking out five batters and walking four. He and Blake Walston will now be sent back to the minors as Alek Thomas comes up from Reno and Ryne Nelson (shoulder) returns from the IL.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Recalled from Triple-A

The Diamondbacks recalled Diaz from Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. Diaz had four starts for the Diamondbacks in July, and he notched a quality start in the first two. In the third game he surrendered seven earned runs across three innings, but he bounced back in his final outing July 28 by allowing just one hit in five scoreless frames before returning to Triple-A. The right-hander worked out of the bullpen in his last two outings with Reno and should serve as a long reliever while up with the big club.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Goes on Triple-A IL

Diaz was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Reno on Thursday due to a blister on his right hand, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. Diaz is expected to miss just one start with the issue. The young right-hander held a solid 4.05 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB in 20 innings covering three starts for Arizona last month, but with Eduardo Rodriguez back and Merrill Kelly's (shoulder) return imminent, Diaz probably wasn't going to be back in the majors anytime soon even if he was healthy.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Cruises to first win

Diaz (1-0) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings, earning the win Saturday over the Blue Jays. Diaz has opened his major-league career with a pair of quality starts, allowing one run over six innings in each of them. The Blue Jays' lone run against him was on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Diaz has also posted a 7:3 K:BB over 12 innings. The 23-year-old showed more strikeout upside in the minors, but if he can continue to limit traffic on the basepaths, he should find success. Arizona's rotation is unlikely to be at full health until early-to-mid August at the earliest, so Diaz may get a few more chances to audition for a more permanent stay in the majors.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Remaining in rotation

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that Diaz will make another turn through the Arizona rotation Saturday versus the Blue Jays at Chase Field, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Jordan Montgomery (knee), Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) and Merrill Kelly (shoulder) are all in the midst of throwing programs and may be on track to return from the injured list within a few weeks after the All-Star break, but their continued absences should clear the way for Diaz to stick around in the big-league rotation for a little while longer. Diaz earned a second turn through the rotation after dazzling in his MLB debut Monday, striking out five while permitting just one run on four hits and one walk in a no-decision against Atlanta. Despite his limited big-league track record, the 23-year-old right-hander shapes up as a decent streaming option this weekend against a weakened Toronto lineup that could be without Bo Bichette (calf).

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Called up for debut Monday

The Diamondbacks selected Diaz's contract from Triple-A Reno and he will start Monday against Atlanta. After 11 starts with Double-A Amarillo to start the season, Diaz was promoted to Reno on June 11, where he has posted a 3.27 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB over 22 innings. The 23-year-old right-hander will make his major-league debut Monday against an Atlanta team that ranks 12th and 13th this season in home runs (100) and OPS (.713), respectively. Diaz is likely to return to Reno following Monday's outing.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Promoted to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks promoted Diaz from Double-A Amarillo to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Diaz is now one stop shy of the big leagues, as he'll head to Reno after punching out 77 batters in 54 innings at Amarillo. While he showcased exceptional strikeout stuff, the 23-year-old went 3-5 with a 4.33 ERA across 11 starts in Double-A this season. He's considered one of the Diamondbacks' top pitching prospects.
