Zach Maxwell still hasn't solved the control problems that have plagued him throughout his career, but the 24-year-old has demonstrated his high-strikeout prowess at every stop, including his first taste of the majors with Cincinnati towards the end of 2025. The right-hander made eight low-leverage appearances for the Reds and struck out 13 over 10 innings. He also walked four and served up three home runs during this small sample. On the plus side, he threw more strikes with the Reds, as his 38.1 ball percentage was three points better than his 41.1 percent mark at Triple-A, though it still fell short of league average. Maxwell's arsenal includes a 99.6 mph average fastball, cutter and slider; all of which he'll need to command better as he gains more big-league experience. He'll have the opportunity this spring to secure a role in the Reds' Opening Day bullpen, but even if he doesn't break camp with the team, he should pitch more in the majors in 2026 than the minors.

Maxwell struggled to limit traffic on the basepaths during spring training, posting a 5.40 ERA and 2.04 WHIP over 8.1 innings, though he managed to collect 13 strikeouts in that span. If the 25-year-old can right the ship at Louisville, the Reds may consider recalling him to join the big-league bullpen as a depth piece.

Cincinnati will need to add Maxwell to the 40-man and 26-man rosters. A sixth-round pick in the 2022 Draft, Maxwell's next appearance will be his MLB debut. The right-hander has pitched in 51 games out of the bullpen at Triple-A this season and has registered a 4.17 ERA and 10.7 K/9 across 49.2 innings.     Maxwell has a 1.69 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and a 17:3 K:BB in 10.2 innings over his last 10 appearances for Triple-A Louisville. One of the best relief-pitching prospect in the minors, Maxwell came into the year with significant control issues, and that has still been an issue (16.7 percent walk rate on the year). He struggled initially after getting promoted from Double-A Chattanooga on May 21, but this recent stretch could make him an option for the big-league club in the second half.
