Player Outlook
One of the best defensive first basemen in the minors, Tre' Morgan won't have to clear quite as high of an offensive bar as the average first base prospect, but it's still to be determined if he'll hit for enough impact to regularly get his glove onto the diamond. The 23-year-old lefty hitter has always possessed strong contact ability while making sound swing decisions. He has a career .307/.408/.455 slash line and 128:120 K:BB in 207 minor-league games. Fantasy managers are chasing bat speed, exit velocity and AirPull% more than ever, and Morgan will be easy to acquire as a result. He had a poor 37.3 Statcast HardHit% and 108.9 mph maxEV at Triple-A while logging a .137 ISO and .412 SLG. That said, Morgan stole 20 bases in 2024 and eight bases on 12 attempts in 92 games in 2025, so he can chip in a bit more speed than the average first baseman. His hit tool and defense (Morgan also plays a good left field) should buy him a shot with the Rays sooner than later, but he isn't on the 40-man roster yet.

  • Rays' Tre' Morgan: Ready for season debut at Triple-A

Triple-A Durham activated Morgan (quadricep) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday. Morgan will make his Triple-A debut Tuesday after he slashed .324/.408/.483 with 10 home runs and 20 stolen bases across three levels in 2024. The 22-year-old could push to make his big-league debut in 2025, although 2026 is more likely.

  • Rays' Tre' Morgan: On IL at Triple-A

Triple-A Durham placed Morgan on the 7-day injured list with a quad injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports. Morgan didn't necessarily master Double-A as a hitter (102 wRC+) in 21 games last year, but with fellow Rays first base prospects Xavier Isaac (elbow) and Will Simpson being Double-A ready, Morgan was pushed to Triple-A. He is one of the best defensive first basemen in the world and an excellent contact hitter, but Morgan's power is fringe-average at best, so he has very clear strengths and weaknesses.

  • Rays' Tre' Morgan: Bumped up to Double-A

The Rays promoted Morgan to Double-A Montgomery on Tuesday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports. A third-round pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Morgan has been dominant for High-A Bowling Green this season, slashing .371/.447/.558 with six homers and 10 stolen bases across 228 plate appearances. The 21-year-old will look to stay hot at the plate during the closing weeks of the regular season with Montgomery.
