  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Sent back to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Daniel to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. Daniel will head back to the minors just a day after he surrendered four earned runs over five innings during his start Monday against the Blue Jays. Kenny Rosenberg will come up from Salt Lake to fill the open roster spot, though Jack Kochanowicz is the most likely option to fill the fifth spot in the Halos' rotation.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Roughed up by Blue Jays

Daniel (1-4) took the loss Monday against Toronto, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out two. All four runs attributed to Daniel came in the third inning, when he surrendered back-to-back doubles, an RBI single and a two-run home run, with the long ball coming off Leo Jimenez's bat. Daniel has surrendered at least four runs in back-to-back starts and has done so in four of six starts this season. Though Daniel is expected to remain in the rotation, the Angels could replace him with Jack Kochanowicz, who allowed two runs across 7.2 innings Sunday after being recalled from Double-A.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Sputters against Yankees

Daniel (1-3) took the loss against the Yankees on Wednesday in Game 1 of a doubleheader, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 3.1 innings. Daniel fell behind 2-0 after one inning and 3-0 after two before pitching his first scoreless frame in the third. However, he couldn't maintain any momentum in the fourth, as he allowed two of the three hitters he faced to reach base before getting the hook. Altogether, the rookie ended up allowing five runs, the third time in five starts he's given up that amount (though in one of those starts, only four of the runs were earned). Daniel has shown some promise too with a pair of strong starts during which he's given up just one earned run across a combined 13 frames, but his overall 6.04 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 25.1 innings make him a volatile fantasy starter.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Drawing another start

Daniel is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Yankees on the road. Daniel will stick around as the Angels' No. 5 starter for another turn after he showed well in his return to the big leagues this past Wednesday, when he limited the Rockies to one run over five innings while striking out five batters. The right-hander will draw a tougher test for his second turn through the rotation, but barring a disaster of an outing in The Bronx, Daniel should have some staying power in a starting role with the Halos.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Receiving start Wednesday

Daniel is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Rockies in Anaheim. The Halos brought Daniel up from Triple-A Salt Lake this past Friday, but after he wasn't needed in relief for any of the club's ensuing four contests, he'll step into the rotation spot that briefly belonged to Kenny Rosenberg. Daniel owns a 5.82 ERA over 17 innings in the majors this season, but his underlying metrics (3.69 SIERA, 4.35 xERA, 18.8 K-BB%) offer hope that he'll turn in better surface numbers moving forward.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Lassoed by Rangers

Daniel (1-2) took the loss against Texas on Monday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out three batters over 3.2 innings. Daniel served up a two-run homer to Corey Seager in the first inning, then made it through the next two frames unscathed. However, he fell apart in the fourth, allowing five hits and plunking a batter before being pulled with two outs after the Rangers racked up five runs. Daniel had a magical first outing of the campaign when he struck out eight over eight scoreless innings against Detroit on June 27, but he's struggled since, giving up 12 runs (11 earned) over nine innings across his subsequent two appearances.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Getting another start Wednesday

Daniel is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Athletics in Oakland, Doug Padilla of The Orange County Register reports. The Halos will get some reinforcement to their rotation with Jose Soriano (abdomen) on track to come off the 15-day injured list Tuesday to start the series opener in Oakland, but Daniel did enough in his first MLB start last Thursday versus Detroit to earn another turn. After getting called up from Triple-A Salt Lake to aid a rotation that had been hit hard by injuries of late, Daniel proceeded to deliver eight shutout innings while striking out eight and giving up only four hits and no walks. The matchup with a weak Athletics offense at a pitcher-friendly venue in Oakland offers an ideal setup for Daniel to come through with another quality start.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Optioned to Salt Lake

The Angels optioned Daniel to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. For the second time this season, Daniel will return to the minors after a one-day stint with the Angels without seeing the field. The 26-year-old right-hander owns a 5.89 ERA and 1.63 WHIP across 36.2 innings in Triple-A.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Back in majors

The Angels recalled Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. The 26-year-old had a one-day stint in the majors in late April but didn't see game action. Daniel made three appearances for the Angels last season and posted a 2.19 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 9:9 K:BB over 12.1 innings.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Brought back to big club

The Angels recalled Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday. Daniel was optioned to Triple-A during spring training. He's started in five games with Salt Lake, going 0-3 while recording a 6.08 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 26:8 K:BB over 23.2 innings. To make room for Daniel in the bullpen, the Angels optioned right-hander Zac Kristofak to Triple-A Salt Lake following Sunday's loss to the Twins.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Earns first win

Daniel (1-1) picked up his first big-league win in Friday's 5-1 victory over Oakland, yielded two hits and a walk over five shutout innings out of the bullpen. Daniel finished the game after starter Chase Silseth allowed one run through four frames. The rookie right-hander threw 47 of 61 pitches for strikes and worked around the only threat he faced in the ninth inning. Since being promoted to the big leagues earlier this month, the 26-year-old made three extended relief appearances for the Angels, registering a 2.19 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 12.1 frames.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Officially recalled

The Angels recalled Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday to pitch against Minnesota. Davis' last appearance came on Sept. 13 with Salt Lake, where he surrendered two runs on two hits and seven walks over the course of four innings. He has yet to allow a run in the majors through three frames, but recent issues with command could cause him to get into trouble as he pitches bulk innings Friday. Aaron Loup (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

The Angels reinstated Daniel (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. Daniel logged a 1.78 ERA and 0.95 WHIP alongside a 37:5 K:BB during his rehab assignment across rookie and High-A ball. He's been on the injured list since February due to a strained right shoulder, and the Angels will allow him to keep developing in Triple-A rather than adding him to their major-league rotation. He put up a 4.49 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 102.1 innings with Triple-A Salt Lake in 2022.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Another gem on rehab assignment

Daniel (shoulder) struck out six while allowing two hits and no walks over six scoreless innings in his latest rehab start Tuesday with Single-A Inland Empire. Daniel remains on the Angels' 60-day injured list, but his 30-day rehab window will come to a close at the end of the month and he's expected to soon be activated and assigned to either Triple-A Salt Lake or Double-A Rocket City. The right-hander has had little trouble regaining his command and control as he works his way back from the shoulder strain that has sidelined him since spring training. Through five rehab outings between stops with Inland Empire and the Angels' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, Daniel has submitted an 0.90 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 27:2 K:BB over 20 innings.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Begins rehab assignment

Daniel (shoulder) began a minor-league rehab stint with the Angels' Arizona Complex League team Aug. 1, and he's thus far allowed one run on four hits and posted a 9:0 K:BB over five innings spanning two starts. Daniel opened the regular season on the 60-day IL due to a right shoulder strain, and he only recently began pitching in minor-league games. The results have so far been impressive despite the level of competition, and in Daniel's most recent outing he struck out seven batters in three scoreless frames. The 26-year-old has been a starter throughout his minor-league tenure, but he'd likely work out of the bullpen if given the chance to make his major-league debut before the end of the current campaign.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Placed on 60-day IL

Daniel was placed on the 60-day injured list by the Angels on Thursday due to a right shoulder strain, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for left-hander Matt Moore, whose one-year, $7.55 million deal with the Angels is now official. Daniel posted a 4.49 ERA and 83:32 K:BB over 102.1 innings last season at Triple-A Salt Lake and won't be much of a factor in the early part of the 2023 campaign.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Contract selected

Daniel's contract was selected by the Angels on Saturday. Daniel doesn't come with a ton of prospect pedigree, as he was the 211th overall pick in the 2019 draft and looks like a back-end starter at best according to his scouting reports. He recorded a 3.64 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A Salt Lake this season, though that came with a modest 19.3 percent strikeout rate. He's pitched almost exclusively as a starter in the minors, but it looks like he'll be a reliever for now, as the Angels don't have a hole in their rotation at the moment.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Invited to big-league camp

Daniel will serve as a non-roster invitee during spring training in 2022. Daniel advanced to Triple-A Salt Lake in 2021, but he faced some struggles against the improved competition and unforgiving ballparks of Triple-A West. The right-hander made five appearances (four starts) and posted a 10.29 ERA and 2.05 WHIP in 21 innings. He'll now have a chance to develop with the big-league coaching staff this spring and will likely be in the mix to make his major-league debut at some point in 2022 as long as he can display improved results with the Bees.
