The Giants designated Dean for assignment Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Dean arrived in San Francisco in November via waiver claim, but he'll now depart the 40-man roster to make room for Tyler Mahle. Dean slashed .289/.378/.431 and stole 27 bases across 347 plate appearances with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in 2025, and he's likely to work as minor-league depth again in 2026.

  • Dodgers' Justin Dean: Sent back to Triple-A

The Dodgers optioned Dean to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

Since coming up from the minors Aug. 8, Dean has logged just two plate appearances with the Dodgers while acting primarily as a pinch runner and outfield depth. Now that Tommy Edman (ankle) has returned from the injured list, Dean will be pushed off the active roster and likely finish the season at Triple-A.

  • Dodgers' Justin Dean: Called up by Dodgers

The Dodgers called up Dean from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Dean will be replacing Esteury Ruiz on the bench, with Luken Baker cleared out to make room on the Dodgers' 40-man roster. The 28-year-old Dean will likely be used sparingly, although he figures to at least make his MLB debut in the coming days, which makes him a success story considering he was a 17th-round pick in 2018. Dean swiped a total of 61 bags last year between Atlanta's Double-A and Triple-A affiliates.
