The Red Sox optioned Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. He's clearing out to make space on the roster for Jake Bennett, who will start Wednesday's contest in Tampa Bay. • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Recalled from Worcester

The Red Sox recalled Gamboa from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports. Gamboa struck out two batters during a scoreless inning in his MLB debut May 5, and he has since posted a 1.89 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in 19 frames at Triple-A. He'll replace Jovani Moran (elbow) on the active roster and give the Red Sox another fresh arm in the bullpen for Saturday's game against the Yankees. He could stay in the majors for a longer look if he continues to pitch well.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Heading back to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday. After being called up from Worcester on Monday, Gamboa will head back to the minors just two days later with Boston needing to clear a spot on the roster for right-hander Sonny Gray (hamstring), who was activated ahead of his start Wednesday in Detroit. Gamboa made his MLB debut in Tuesday's 10-3 win over the Tigers, striking out two batters over an inning of relief. The 29-year-old left-hander will likely move back into a starting role at Worcester.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Moves past elbow issue

Gamboa (elbow) recorded two outs via strikeout and allowed one earned run on three hits in his relief appearance Friday in the Red Sox's 2-0 win over the Rays. Gamboa made just his second appearance of the Grapefruit League and his first since Feb. 28 after he was briefly shut down due to a left elbow issue. The injury prevented Gamboa from staking a claim to a spot in the Opening Day bullpen, as the Red Sox reassigned him to minor-league camp Saturday.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Nursing elbow injury

Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Gamboa is dealing with an elbow injury and will be shut down for at least three days, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Gamboa has made just one appearance so far this spring, during which he gave up two earned runs on two hits and a walk across 1.1 innings. His injury doesn't seem to be anything major, but the Red Sox will shut him down temporarily to be safe.
