  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Sent out to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester on Monday. After being recalled from Triple-A last Wednesday, Gamboa made two appearances out of the Red Sox bullpen, giving up two earned runs in 3.1 innings. He'll head back to the minors to clear room on the active roster for left-hander Patrick Sandoval (biceps), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and is expected to join the rotation later this week.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Promotion coming

The Red Sox are expected to recall Gamboa from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Gamboa has fired 1.2 scoreless frames across his two MLB appearances this season, and he's given up just two runs in 10 Triple-A innings since the beginning of June. He'll provide Boston's bullpen with a fresh arm and will likely be limited to low-leverage work with the Red Sox.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Recalled from Worcester

The Red Sox recalled Gamboa from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports. Gamboa struck out two batters during a scoreless inning in his MLB debut May 5, and he has since posted a 1.89 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in 19 frames at Triple-A. He'll replace Jovani Moran (elbow) on the active roster and give the Red Sox another fresh arm in the bullpen for Saturday's game against the Yankees. He could stay in the majors for a longer look if he continues to pitch well.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Moves past elbow issue

Gamboa (elbow) recorded two outs via strikeout and allowed one earned run on three hits in his relief appearance Friday in the Red Sox's 2-0 win over the Rays. Gamboa made just his second appearance of the Grapefruit League and his first since Feb. 28 after he was briefly shut down due to a left elbow issue. The injury prevented Gamboa from staking a claim to a spot in the Opening Day bullpen, as the Red Sox reassigned him to minor-league camp Saturday.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Nursing elbow injury

Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Gamboa is dealing with an elbow injury and will be shut down for at least three days, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Gamboa has made just one appearance so far this spring, during which he gave up two earned runs on two hits and a walk across 1.1 innings. His injury doesn't seem to be anything major, but the Red Sox will shut him down temporarily to be safe.
