The Red Sox recalled Gamboa from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday. Gamboa has been up and down between Worcester and Boston several times this season and has pitched well with the big club, logging a 2.08 ERA and 12:5 K:BB across 13 frames. He'll join the bullpen as a replacement for right-hander Seth Martinez, who was designated for assignment.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Heads back to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday. Gamboa was up with the Red Sox for just one day, as he served as the club's 27th man in Friday's doubleheader versus the Rays. He mopped up in the Red Sox's 10-0 win in the first game of the day, striking out a batter and allowing two hits and no walks over three scoreless innings en route to earning his first MLB save.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Nabs three-inning save Friday

Gamboa recorded his first career big-league save in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Rays, allowing two hits over three scoreless innings. He struck out one without walking a batter. Called back up from Triple-A Worcester as the 27th man for the twin bill, Gamboa took the mound with a 9-0 lead and completed a combined shutout begun by Jake Bennett. Gamboa has been effective in his opportunities for the Red Sox this season, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 5:4 K:BB in eight innings over five appearances since making his MLB debut on May 5, but after throwing 43 pitches (33 strikes) he'll likely head back to Triple-A in favor of a fresh bullpen arm after the doubleheader.

  • Red Sox's Alec Gamboa: Moves past elbow issue

Gamboa (elbow) recorded two outs via strikeout and allowed one earned run on three hits in his relief appearance Friday in the Red Sox's 2-0 win over the Rays. Gamboa made just his second appearance of the Grapefruit League and his first since Feb. 28 after he was briefly shut down due to a left elbow issue. The injury prevented Gamboa from staking a claim to a spot in the Opening Day bullpen, as the Red Sox reassigned him to minor-league camp Saturday.
