Royals' Jac Caglianone: Drives first homer of spring

Caglianone went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's Cactus League loss to the Reds.
Caglianone showcased his raw power, launching a tape-measure blast off Brandon Williamson that left the bat at 115.2 mph and traveled 460 feet in the fourth inning. It marked his first homer of the spring and came against a southpaw after he slashed .180/.254/.377 with five extra-base hits and five RBI in 67 plate appearances versus left-handers last season. After a disappointing debut campaign in which he posted a .532 OPS with 14 extra-base hits and 18 RBI over 62 games, there remains plenty of intrigue and excitement surrounding the 2024 first-round pick, though Caglianone still has much to prove heading into the 2026 regular season.
Caglianone is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
The Royals will withhold Caglianone from the lineup for the second straight day to close out the regular season, with John Rave getting another start in the outfield. Though the 22-year-old Caglianone is still viewed as a major part of the Royals' long-term future, he's had a tough go in his first taste of the big leagues, slashing just .158/.238/.297 in 231 plate appearances since being promoted from Triple-A Omaha in June.

Caglianone isn't in the Royals' lineup for Saturday's game versus the Athletics.
The Royals will keep Caglianone in the dugout Saturday following an 0-for-8 stretch at the plate across his last three games. His absence will allow John Rave to start in center field and bat ninth.
Caglianone (elbow) is starting in right field and batting eighth Sunday against Toronto.
Caglianone made an early exit from Saturday's contest after being hit by a pitch on the right elbow in the seventh inning, but he appears to have emerged without a serious injury. The rookie outfielder had a five-game hitting streak snapped upon his departure, but he's been hitting well of late, posting a .911 OPS with two homers and six RBI over his past six contests.

Caglianone exited Saturday's game against the Blue Jays after being hit by a pitch on the right elbow, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Caglianone was hit during a plate appearance in the seventh inning and was immediately replaced by a pinch runner. The extent of the injury is unclear, but he is likely to undergo imaging later Saturday or Sunday.

Caglianone went 2-for-5 with a homer, a walk, four RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 20-1 victory against the Blue Jays.
The rookie put up a career-high four RBI, matching his total across 14 games in September prior to this contest. Three of those runs were knocked home when Caglianone launched a 406-foot long ball off position player Tyler Heineman in the seventh. The 22-year-old's first big-league campaign has been tough, as he's now slashing .163/.237/.301 with seven homers, 18 RBI and 18 runs scored through 215 plate appearances.
