Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Pops two homers
Griffin went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox.
Griffin was hitless across his first five at-bats of Grapefruit League action, but he blasted a pair of long balls over the replica Green Monster at jetBlue Park on Tuesday. Both of those homers came on breaking balls -- the first of which was a curveball from Ranger Suarez -- and had exit velocities of 104.8 and 111.2 mph, respectively, per Kevin Gorman of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Griffin now has four flyballs measured over 104 mph this spring.

Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Making team would be 'tough ask'
Pirates manager Don Kelly said Wednesday that it "would be a tough ask" for Griffin to make the Opening Day roster, Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan reports.
Griffin is a 19-year-old with only 21 games of experience above A-ball, so cracking the Opening Day roster would indeed be a difficult leap. It's also not a surprise that Kelly is tamping down expectations for the top prospect this early in spring training. It should become clearer the deeper we get into camp as to whether Griffin has a real chance to head north with the big club. Griffin hit .333/.415/.527 with 21 home runs and 65 stolen bases across three levels in his first professional season in 2025.

Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Garners spring invite
The Pirates have extended Griffin an invitation to big-league camp during spring training.
Arguably the top prospect in all of baseball, Griffin tore through three levels of the minors in 2025, slashing .333/.415/.527 with 21 home runs and 65 stolen bases in his first pro season. The expectation is that he will be given a real shot to win the Pirates' Opening Day shortstop job, and if that happens, Griffin -- who turns 20 in late April -- would be the first position player to make his big-league debut as a teenager since Juan Soto in 2018.
