Yesavage has been throwing off flat ground, but is about ready to take the next step Friday. When he has his bullpen session Friday, it will be about three weeks since he had surgery Aug. 11 to repair his torn meniscus. The right-hander is eyeing a return before the end of the season.

Manager John Schneider said Tuesday that Yesavage (knee) continues to play catch off flat ground, and the Blue Jays are still hoping the right-hander can return from the 15-day injured list in late September, MLB.com reports.
After undergoing left meniscus surgery Aug. 11, Yesavage was cleared to begin a throwing program about a week later. While he's said to be showing good range of motion with his knee, the Blue Jays haven't yet given him the green light to advance to mound work. Yesavage still has enough time to get cleared for game action before the end of the season, but if he ends up returning in the final week or two of September, he won't be stretched out enough for a full starting role.

It's a positive step in Yesavage's recovery from a meniscus injury that he underwent surgery for last week. Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Thursday that Yesavage has been diagnosed with meniscus damage in his left knee and will visit a specialist Monday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Yesavage had to be lifted from his start Tuesday against the Astros and was placed on the injured list Wednesday. Schneider noted that surgery for Yesavage "is always a possibility," but that determination will be made following his exam Monday. Even if an operation isn't required, Yesavage is likely to be sidelined for several weeks.
Toronto placed Vesavage on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to left knee inflammation.
After exiting in the third inning of his start in Tuesday's loss to the Astros due to left knee discomfort, Yesavage was sent in for an MRI on Wednesday. Though imaging doesn't appear to have revealed anything more than inflammation, the young right-hander will need to be shut down for at least the next two weeks. The Blue Jays had planned to move to a six-man rotation this week, but rather than replacing Yesavage, the team could simply get by a five-man rotation until Yesavage is ready to return from the IL.

Yesavage overpowered the Chicago bats at times, generating a whopping 21 whiffs on the afternoon, and he hung on for a quality start after the White Sox plated a pair of runs in the sixth inning. The nine punchouts were a season high for the right-hander, who has now logged three quality starts in his past four outings. Yesavage has been wild occasionally, walking at least five in four of his last nine appearances, but he's still maintained a healthy 3.78 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 78:41 K:BB over 81 innings this year.

Yesavage allowed four runs on one hit and seven walks while striking out one over 1.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Saturday.
Yesavage threw just 20 of 59 pitches for strikes. While he did plenty of damage over the first two innings, the Blue Jays were able to initially keep pace with the Padres to spare the right-hander from taking a loss. Even before Saturday's performance, Yesavage had allowed 19 runs (18 earned) over his previous six starts spanning 36.1 innings, and his 29:15 K:BB in that span shows some warning signs. Overall this year, the 22-year-old is at a 3.72 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 69:39 K:BB through 75 innings over 14 starts this season.

Yesavage churned out a quality start, though a no-show from the Toronto offense saddled him with the loss. After not allowing a homer in any of his first seven starts this season, the right-hander has surrendered seven long balls across his past six starts, including a two-run shot to Mitch Garver in the fourth inning Sunday. Yesavage will take a 3.31 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 68:32 K:BB across 73.1 innings (13 starts) into his final outing before the All-Star break, tentatively scheduled for Saturday in San Diego.
Yesavage (4-3) earned the win Monday against the Mets, allowing one run on three hits and no walks in 6.2 innings. He struck out three.
Yesavage had a hard time finding the zone, matching a season low in punchouts while tossing just 57 of his 94 offerings for strikes, but he hung in there for a strong outing overall. The 22-year-old right-hander remains incredibly difficult to hit, giving up fewer than six knocks in each of his first 12 starts for a .185 opponent batting average. Yesavage is slated to finish a two-start week this weekend in Seattle, where he'll bring a 3.34 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 61:30 K:BB over 67.1 innings.
