The Yankees handed Weathers an early 4-0 lead, but the veteran southpaw gave that lead to the Pirates after yielding five runs across the second and third frames. It was the sixth time this season that he gave up at least five earned runs, though he also generated 20 whiffs and 17 first-pitch strikes on 99 pitches. Weathers will not start the second half of Sunday's doubleheader against the Dodgers and will now start Monday's game against the Pirates, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Weathers was originally in line to pitch Saturday's game before it was rained out and will now open the series against Pittsburgh on Monday instead. Manager Aaron Boone said that Elmer Rodriguez could "potentially" start the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader. On the season, Weathers possesses a 4.15 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 110:27 K:BB through 97.2 innings in his first season with the Yankees.

The southpaw put together another stingy outing, tossing 61 of 91 pitches for strikes and getting tagged for two runs or fewer for the fourth time in his last five starts, but the Yankees' bullpen cost Weathers his fourth win of the year. Over that five-start stretch, he's produced a 3.47 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 29:6 K:BB through 23.1 innings, and with both Max Fried (elbow) and Carlos Rodon (elbow) on the shelf until late July or later, Weathers' spot in the rotation should be secure for at least a couple weeks coming out of the All-Star break.

Weathers (3-5) notched the win Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out six.
Weathers outdueled Tigers southpaw Tarik Skubal on Wednesday, keeping the ball in the park on a night where Skubal was taken yard three times. That also makes it back-to-back quality starts for Weathers, which is an encouraging sign after the southpaw gave up 16 runs across his previous three outings. Weather has a respectable 3.95 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 95:24 K:BB over 86.2 innings, and he's set to get another crack at Detroit at home in his next appearance.

Weathers came out firing, striking out the side in the first inning before running into his lone mistake of the night when Colson Montgomery launched the first pitch of the second inning for a solo homer. The left-hander was excellent from that point forward, limiting Chicago to just two additional hits while recording his fifth outing of at least eight strikeouts. The performance was a much-needed rebound effort after a rough stretch in which he had allowed five or more runs in four of his previous five starts. Weathers now has a 4.13 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 89:22 K:BB across 80.2 innings.

The left-hander never got settled in Friday, surrendering three runs in the opening frame, another in the second and two more in the fifth. It's the third consecutive defeat for Weathers, who has an ugly 8.47 ERA with seven homers allowed during that stretch. The 26-year-old has been a boom-or-bust performer this year with at least five runs allowed in five separate starts while giving up one or no earned runs five times.

It was the fourth time in 12 starts this season that Weathers has given up five runs, three of which have come over his last four outings. He had some command issues Friday with just 11 first-pitch strikes to 26 batters, and it was the fourth time this season that he gave up at least two home runs in a game. Weathers' recent form has him sitting at a 3.86 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across 70 innings this season, and his 79 strikeouts are tied for sixth-most in the American League. He's lined up to face the Guardians on the road next week.
Weathers (2-3) allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out 10 over 6.2 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Athletics.
Weathers reached double-digit strikeouts for the second time this year. He's also worked into the seventh inning or later in five of his 11 starts, though this time it came with three home runs given up while he matched his season high for runs allowed. The southpaw has still looked pretty good in his first year with the Yankees, posting a 3.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 75:19 K:BB through 64 innings. His next start is projected to come at home versus the Red Sox.
