  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Fully recovered from lat injury

Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Friday that Rodriguez is completely recovered from his right lat strain and will enter spring training without restrictions, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez missed the final two months of the regular season, as well as the playoffs, due to the injury, but he had resumed throwing off a mound by September and should have a normal offseason. The right-hander finished the 2024 campaign with a 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 130:36 K:BB over 116.2 innings covering 20 starts.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Out for 2024

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde announced Wednesday that Rodriguez (lat) has been shut down and won't pitch again this season, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The 24-year-old hasn't suffered any sort of setback with the lat strain he sustained in early August, but he apparently hadn't progressed enough to be a potential factor during the playoffs. Rodriguez will focus his rehab efforts on getting ready for 2025 after finishing this season with a 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 130:36 K:BB across 116.2 innings.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Could return as reliever

Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Tuesday that it's possible Rodriguez (lat) temporarily pitches out of the bullpen when he eventually returns from the 15-day injured list, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Rodriguez is throwing off a mound and is "moving in the right direction," per Elias, as the right-hander works his way back from a lat strain. However, he is simply running out of time to get built back up before the end of the regular season, so the Orioles might have no choice but to use him in relief initially as they rebuild his stamina on the fly. Rodriguez has been sidelined since early August.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Could face hitters this week

Rodriguez (lat) could face hitters at some point this week during the Orioles' road trip, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez began throwing off a mound last week and should be able to take the next step in his recovery soon. The right-hander has been sidelined since early August with a right lat strain and will surely need a rehab start or two before rejoining the Orioles' rotation, so he's probably looking at a late-September return even if all goes well.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Throws bullpen session

Rodriguez (lat) threw a bullpen session at Camden Yards on Wednesday, Baltimore Banner Sports reports. The right-hander got back on the mound for the first time since he was diagnosed with a strained lat nearly a month ago. Rodriguez will need to face hitters at least once before being cleared for a rehab start, but that should come soon. The 24-year-old is probably still at least a couple weeks away from a return from the 15-day injured list, however.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Nearing mound work

Rodriguez (lat) threw from flat ground before Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Rodriguez threw from flat ground for the second time this week and will progress to work from the mound soon. No exact timeline for his increased activity or activation from the injured list has been revealed.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Shooting for September return

General manager Mike Elias said Saturday that Rodriguez (lat) will be shut down from throwing for 10 days and hopes Rodriguez will be back sometime in September, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez is dealing with a mild right lat strain and was placed on the IL on Wednesday. While he'll be eligible to return Aug. 19, he's not expected to be activated until September. The 24-year-old has a 3.86 ERA and 130 strikeouts over 116.2 innings this season. Albert Suarez started in Rodriguez's place Tuesday and is expected to remain in the rotation while Rodriguez is sidelined.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Diagnosed with strain

Manager Brandon Hyde said Wednesday that Rodriguez has been diagnosed with a mild right lat strain, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Rodriguez was placed on the injured list earlier Wednesday due to what was labeled as "discomfort," but the team has now confirmed the right-hander suffered a strain following an MRI. Hyde added that he is optimistic about Rodriguez returning to the rotation relatively quickly, though the 24-year-old remains without an official timeline. Albert Suarez, who started in Rodriguez's place Tuesday against the Blue Jays, is the most likely option to fill the void in the Orioles rotation.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Placed on 15-day injured list

The Orioles placed Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right lat/teres discomfort. Rodriguez was a late scratch from his scheduled start Tuesday versus the Blue Jays due to the injury and is now on the IL a day later. The Orioles aren't yet labeling the injury as a strain, but Rodriguez could still require more testing before a more specific diagnosis is available. He'll be eligible to return Aug. 19, but it's too soon to know whether the righty has a shot to be ready on that date. Albert Suarez pitched well as a last-minute substitution for Rodriguez on Tuesday and is likely to take his spot in the Baltimore rotation.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Dealing with lat injury

Rodriguez is dealing with a right lat/teres discomfort, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Rodriguez was scratched from his start Tuesday against Toronto at the last minute, which is now understood to be the result of some discomfort in his upper and mid back. The right-hander dealt with a similar injury in 2022 with Triple-A Norfolk, which forced him to miss time according to Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Scratched from start

Rodriguez (undisclosed) was scratched from his start against the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. Rodriguez was slated to make his third start following the All-Star break, but he's now been forced to take a seat. The 24-year-old spent a couple weeks on the injured list in May with right shoulder inflammation and it's unclear if Tuesday's absence is related to that or not. More information on his status moving forward will likely be provided in the near future, but in the meantime, Albert Suarez will draw Tuesday's start versus Toronto.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Up to 13 wins

Rodriguez (13-4) earned the win Wednesday over the Blue Jays, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out eight. After a strong start to his day, Rodriguez seemed to fade a bit late, allowing a run in each of his final four frames. However, he'd ultimately hang on for his fifth win in his last eight outings. The 24-year-old right-hander has been a bit shaky recently, allowing 13 earned runs in his last 22 innings. Overall, Rodriguez sports a 3.86 ERA across 20 starts (116.2 innings) this year with a 1.24 WHIP and 130:36 K:BB. He's currently in line for a rematch with Toronto on the road in his next outing.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Goes five innings in no-decision

Rodriguez didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Padres, allowing two runs on seven hits over five-plus innings. He struck out two. Rodriguez blanked San Diego through his first five innings, but Luis Arraez would lead off the sixth with a single before Jurickson Profar launched a game-tying, two-run homer, forcing Baltimore to turn to the bullpen. It's just the second time in Rodriguez's last six starts that he failed to make it through six innings. Overall, the 24-year-old right-hander is 12-4 with a 3.82 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 122:33 K:BB across 19 starts this year. Rodriguez is currently slated to face the Blue Jays at home next week in his next outing.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Registers 12th victory

Rodriguez (12-4) earned the win over Texas on Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters over six innings. Rodriguez was staked to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but he gave up a pair of runs to split the advantage in half in the bottom of the frame. However, those were the only tallies Texas managed against him, and the right-hander ended with his 12th win -- second most in the majors -- and 10th quality start. Four of those quality starts have come over Rodriguez's past five outings.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Allows three homers in loss

Rodriguez (11-4) took the loss against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing six runs on eight hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over five innings. Rodriguez allowed a season-high three home runs, including a three-run homer in the first inning and back-to-back long balls to Juan Soto and Aaron Judge in the fifth. He generated 13 swinging strikes on 91 pitches but was burned by his mistakes, breaking a run of three consecutive quality-start victories. The 24-year-old will take a 3.88 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 112:31 K:BB across 99.2 innings into the All-Star break.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Earns 10th win

Rodriguez (10-3) allowed two hits and four walks while striking out eight over 6.1 scoreless innings to earn the win over the Mariners on Tuesday. This was just the second time in his last seven starts that Rodriguez walked multiple batters, but that was virtually the only flaw in his performance Tuesday. It was also his third scoreless outing of the year. Rodriguez is now at a 3.45 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 97:29 K:BB through 88.2 innings over 15 starts. The right-hander is tentatively projected for a home start versus the Cubs for his next appearance if the Orioles go to a six-man rotation, though he could move up to pitch on regular rest at Oakland on Sunday if Baltimore elects to work with five starters.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Bounces back with ninth victory

Rodriguez (9-3) earned the win over Cleveland on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four batters over seven innings. Rodriguez was tagged for seven runs over five innings against Houston during his previous trip to the mound, but he was much better Wednesday, notching his seventh quality start of the campaign and his ninth victory. The right-hander did give up two home runs, but both were of the solo variety, and they accounted for the only scores the Guardians managed against him. Rodriguez has been good at limiting long balls this season -- Wednesday marked just the second time he has allowed multiple homers -- and he's completed at least five frames in all but one of his 14 starts. He holds a 3.72 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 89:25 K:BB across 82.1 innings on the campaign.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Tagged with seven runs

Rodriguez (8-3) allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks over five-plus innings Friday, striking out eight and taking a loss against Houston. Rodriguez gave up runs in the first and second innings but the real damage didn't come until later. He coughed up a three-run shot to Jake Meyers in the fifth inning and was charged with two runs during Houston's nine-run sixth. Rodriguez saw his three-game winning streak come to an end while taking his first loss of the month. He's given up seven runs twice this season but has allowed two or fewer runs in 10 of his 13 outings, resulting in a 3.82 ERA overall. The 24-year-old righty is in line for a home matchup with Cleveland next week.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Completes seven innings in win

Rodriguez (8-2) earned the win against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts over seven innings. Rodriguez allowed runs on an RBI double by Alec Bohm in the first inning and a solo home run by Edmundo Sosa in the second but rebounded with five scoreless frames to earn his third consecutive win. This was the first time Rodriguez completed seven innings in a start this season, but he has pitched into the sixth in all but two of his 12 starts so far. On the year, Rodriguez now owns a 3.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 77:23 K:BB and tentatively lines up to start next week against the Yankees.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Activated from IL

The Orioles reinstated Rodriguez (shoulder) from the injured list to start Saturday's game against the Mariners. Rodriguez, who landed on the injured list May 1 with right shoulder inflammation, will return to the Orioles' rotation without making a rehab appearance in the minors. The 24-year-old right-hander threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Sunday, though it's unclear how many pitches he's built up to since then, making it possible he works under a pitch count while facing the Mariners. Mike Baumann was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
