  • Mets' Cole Mathis: Shipped to Queens

The Mets acquired Mathis from the Cubs on Wednesday in exchange for left-hander David Peterson, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. After turning in a 1.204 OPS through 66 plate appearances at Single-A Myrtle Beach to begin the season, Mathis received a promotion to High-A South Bend on April 21 and slashed .260/.371/.490 with three home runs in 25 games before landing on the 7-day injured list over the weekend with an unspecified injury. Assuming the injury isn't too significant, the 22-year-old infielder should be ready to debut with his new organization prior to the All-Star break. Mathis will likely report to High-A Brooklyn.
