Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Registers steal in win
Rocchio went 0-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Monday's 5-3 win over the White Sox.
Rocchio has gone 7-for-18 (.389) with two home runs, five RBI and four walks over seven games in September. That has helped him gain a majority of the playing time at shortstop, though he still faces a small threat from Daniel Schneemann. Rocchio hit just .206 in August and is at a .214/.304/.328 slash line with eight homers, 10 steals, 32 RBI and 48 runs scored through 127 contests this season.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Smacks homer Friday
Rocchio went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 3-1 win over the Dodgers.
Rocchio hit a single in the sixth inning and scored on an Andres Gimenez homer before going yard himself in the eighth. Over his last six games, Rocchio has gone 7-for-19 (.368) with two homers and five RBI. That hot bat has helped him keep a spot in the lineup at shortstop on a regular basis. He's now slashing .215/.301/.331 with eight homers, 32 RBI, 48 runs scored, nine stolen bases and 15 doubles across 384 plate appearances this year.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Plates four in victory
Rocchio went 1-for-1 with a home run, four RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Tuesday's 7-1 win over Kansas City.
The Cleveland shortstop opened the game's scoring in the second inning innocuously with a sacrifice fly. Rocchio then returned to blast a 372-foot, two-run homer off reliever Sam Long in the seventh before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the eighth to notch his first career four-RBI performance. The 23-year-old continues to play regularly at shortstop for the Guardians despite slashing .211/.298/.319 with seven homers, 46 runs scored and 31 RBI across 381 plate appearances, as his above-average glove keeps him in the lineup.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Not in lineup for first game
Rocchio is absent from the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Royals.
The Guardians will go with Tyler Freeman at shortstop for the first game of the twin bill. Rocchio has typically seen most of the starts at shortstop against right-handed pitching of late and should be back in the lineup for the nightcap, when righty Alec Marsh is slated to start for the Royals.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Not starting Sunday
Rocchio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: On bench Wednesday
Rocchio is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
The Guardians have been rotating multiple players in at shortstop lately, with both Tyler Freeman and Daniel Schneemann having poached starts from Rocchio of late. Even though he's on the bench Tuesday, Rocchio may have helped himself earn a greater share of the playing time at shortstop after going 3-for-5 with a home run in Tuesday's win over New York.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Fills stat sheet in win
Rocchio went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 9-5 extra-innings win over the Yankees.
This was the first time in Rocchio's major-league career he homered and swiped a bag in the same game. Despite the fantastic effort, the steal was his first since May, and he entered Tuesday having gone just 4-for-24 over his previous 10 games. On the season, the 23-year-old is hitting .210 with six home runs, 27 RBI, 40 runs scored and nine stolen bases across 344 plate appearances.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Regaining playing time
Rocchio will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
Rocchio has now started in three consecutive matchups with a right-handed pitcher and seems to have supplanted Daniel Schneemann -- who has hit the bench in two of those contests -- as the Guardians' preferred option at shortstop. While his .726 OPS since the beginning of August is a stark improvement over his season-long mark of .608, Rocchio's grip on an everyday role would still seem to be tenuous.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Taking seat Monday
Rocchio is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.
Though he's been picking up more playing time of late while he's thus far put together a .231/.310/.423 slash line in August, Rocchio isn't yet locked back in as an everyday player for the Guardians. Manager Stephen Vogt hasn't been leaning on a conventional platoon at shortstop between the switch-hitting Rocchio and the lefty-hitting Daniel Schneemann, either. Both players will hit the bench Monday against lefty Shota Imanaga while Tyler Freeman gets the nod at shortstop.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Homers in matinee
Rocchio went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 4-2 loss to the Twins during the first game of Friday's doubleheader.
Rocchio got the Guardians on the board in the seventh inning of the matinee but went 0-for-4 in the nightcap. The 23-year-old has started six of the last eight games at shortstop, seemingly clawing back a starting role over Daniel Schneemann at the highly contested position for Cleveland. Rocchio has gone just 5-for-22 over eight contests in August, and he's slashing .206/.297/.312 with five homers, eight stolen bases, 23 RBI and 38 runs scored over 103 games this season.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: On bench for second game of day
Rocchio is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Diamondbacks.
Rocchio made his fifth start in six games in the Guardians' 7-3 loss earlier in the day, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Though his playing time seems to be trending up, Rocchio had posted an .553 OPS since the All-Star break heading into Wednesday, so he doesn't yet seem to have recaptured a full-time role at shortstop. He'll give way to Tyler Freeman in the nightcap.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Registers steal in win
Rocchio went 2-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 8-4 win over the Orioles.
Rocchio has started four of the last five games, suggesting he is clawing back some playing time from Daniel Schneemann, though the Guardians have faced three southpaws in that span. Over his last seven contests, Rocchio is 5-for-19 (.263) with two extra-base hits. He's at a .211/.304/.308 slash line with four home runs, eight steals, 21 RBI and 37 runs scored over 308 plate appearances this year. Cleveland has tried a number of players at shortstop in 2024, but the position remains up for grabs.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Homers off bench
Rocchio hit a solo home run in his lone at-bat in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Tigers.
Rocchio went yard in the ninth inning to produce the Guardians' last run of the contest. The shortstop has seen a reduced role in July, with Daniel Schneemann picking up playing time, but Schneemann has just three hits over eight games since the All-Star break. Rocchio hasn't been much better, going 3-for-22 with three RBI over 12 contests in the same span. For the year, Rocchio is at a .204/.295/.300 slash line with four homers, 20 RBI, 36 runs scored and seven stolen bases across 300 plate appearances. Cleveland didn't do anything to bolster its infield at the trade deadline, though Angel Martinez -- who has played primarily in the outfield -- or Tyler Freeman could be options at shortstop if the platoon of Schneemann and Rocchio continues to struggle.
