Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Rare day off
Rocchio is not in Saturday's lineup against the Phillies.
This is his first day off since May 5, as Rocchio is in the midst of a breakout season. He is slashing .291/.376/.418 with four home runs, nine steals and an 11 percent strikeout rate in 51 games. Daniel Schneemann is starting at shortstop and batting sixth against Zack Wheeler.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Perfect in win
Rocchio went 3-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Tigers.
Batting out of the nine hole, Rocchio sparked a two-run rally with a two-out double and immediately scored on a Daniel Schneemann double. Rocchio's been rolling in May and is now 14-for-33 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, three steals, eight RBI and nine runs scored over the last 11 contests. He began the year at second base but has since moved over to shortstop after Gabriel Arias (hamstring) landed on the 10-day injured list. It was recently reported that Arias' rehab "hit a little snag" and will be out longer than expected. Whether it's at shortstop or second base, Rocchio's place in the lineup should be stable given his strong production at the plate.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Knocks in two runs in win
Rocchio went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and two RBI in Monday's 7-0 win over the Angels.
Rocchio didn't let a bases-loaded opportunity pass by when he delivered a two-out, two-run single in the second inning. He's been money with runners in scoring position, slashing .382/.475/.529 with 18 RBI in those situations. He also stole his seventh base (caught three times) in 41 games. With the Guardians calling up Travis Bazzana to be the primary second baseman, shortstop will have to be Rocchio's home. It's unclear what Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt's plan is for shortstop when Gabriel Arias (hamstring) is read to return, but Rocchio's bat could put him atop the depth chart.

Rocchio is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.
Rocchio started the previous 15 games but will hit the bench Tuesday while in the midst of a 5-for-25 slump. Daniel Schneemann will shift to shortstop while Rhys Hoskins enters the lineup at designated hitter for Cleveland.

Hitting ninth in the order for the Guardians, Rocchio kept flipping the lineup over and came home on a Kyle Manzardo sacrifice fly in the third inning and a Chase DeLauter single in the fifth. Rocchio went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double and a stolen base in Monday's 9-2 loss to the Astros.
Rocchio extended a hit streak to seven games with a second consecutive game with three knocks. The infielder is 12-for-23 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBI during the streak. The steal was his first of the season. Rocchio will be the Guardians' primary shortstop until Gabriel Arias (hamstring) returns from an absence that could extend into June.

Orioles' Dean Kremer: Takes loss in quality start
Kremer (0-1) took the loss against the Guardians on Saturday, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out seven across six innings.
It was a mostly strong outing from Kremer, who generated 14 whiffs and tossed 58 strikes on 95 pitches. His lone, yet consequential, blemish came in the fifth inning, when he yielded a three-run homer to Brayan Rocchio, and the Orioles' batters were unable to generate enough offense for Kremer to avoid the loss. The right-hander has looked good in his two starts since being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk last Monday. His next start is tentatively slated for next weekend at home against the rival Red Sox.

Rocchio went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run during the Guardians' 4-2 win over the Orioles on Saturday.
Rocchio gave the Guardians a two-run lead in the fifth when he took Dean Kremer deep right field for a three-run long shot. It was the third home run of the season for Rocchio and extended his hitting streak to five games. In that five-game span, he has gone 6-for-16 (.375) with five RBI and four runs scored.

Rocchio gave the Guardians a 6-1 lead with a two-run blast to left field in the sixth inning. He reached base a season-high three times and finished with his first multi-hit game since Opening Day. Arias' injury looks like it will keep him out of Tuesday's contest, but it's not yet known if a stint on the injured list is required. He's set to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. Rocchio is the likely fill-in at shortstop if Arias needs multiple games off or a stay on the IL.

The two bookends to the Guardians lineup accounted for both runs Monday. Leadoff hitter Steven Kwan and Rocchio, batting in the ninth spot, each hit a solo home run, but it wouldn't be enough to earn Cleveland the win. As for Rocchio, it was the first home run of the season for the 25-year-old, who is off to a decent start to the year. On the season, he is slashing .200/.351/.333 with a double, four RBI, five walk and four strikeouts. His .685 OPS would set a career mark if he were to sustain that over the full season.

As expected, Rocchio was the Opening Day starter at second base, but less expected was his offensive impact. The light-hitting infielder is expected to be a lineup regular at second base, and Rocchio could quiet the calls for a quick promotion for Travis Bazzana, the team's first-round pick in 2024, if he can maintain a productive bat.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Projected starter at 2B
Rocchio is projected to be the Guardians' Opening Day starter at second base, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
This comes as no surprise, as Rocchio was pegged all along to be the team's starting second baseman. He and Gabriel Arias will form the double-play combo for Cleveland. Rocchio's strong second half in 2025 carried over into the Cactus League, as he's slashed .313/.389/.531 with four doubles, one home run, four RBI, two steals and three runs scored over 12 contests. The job may not be his for the whole season, however, as prospect Travis Bazzana, the first overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, is expected to make his debut some time this summer.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Go-ahead homer as Guardians survive
Rocchio smashed a go-ahead, solo home run in the eighth inning of Wednesday's 6-1 victory over the Tigers in Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series.
Rocchio was in a 0-2 hole against Troy Melton with one out and no one on, but he got a center-cut fastball and didn't miss it, putting the pitch over the right-field wall to send the crowd at Progressive Field into a frenzy. The Guardians tacked on an additional four runs in the frame and forced a winner-take-all Game 3 on Thursday. It was the second career postseason homer for Rocchio, who slashed .306/.390/.444 during the 2024 playoffs.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Slugs walk-off homer
Rocchio went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer and an additional RBI in Sunday's 9-8 extra-inning victory over Texas.
The Cleveland infielder played hero in this contest with a 380-foot, three-run blast to walk off the Rangers and clinch the division for his club. Rocchio concludes a relatively productive second half that saw him hit .257 (56-for-218) with four homers, six steals, 32 RBI and 23 runs scored across 66 games after the All-Star break. Overall, the 24-year-old slashed .233/.290/.340 with five homers, eight steals, 44 RBI and 34 runs scored across 383 total plate appearances this regular season.
