Reds' Michael Toglia: Lands with Reds on MiLB deal
Toglia signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Saturday.
Toglia looked to be a key part of Colorado's future when he posted a .767 OPS with 25 home runs and 10 stolen bases over 457 plate appearances for the big-league club in 2024, but the 2019 first-round draft pick dropped off dramatically this past season, slashing just .190/.258/.353 with 11 long balls and three steals across 337 plate appearances. He's always demonstrated plenty of power and also went deep 11 times over 42 contests for Triple-A Albuquerque last season, but Toglia has also struggled making a contact, and he posted an awful 39.2 percent strikeout rate with the Rockies in 2025. That was a large part of the reason why Colorado designated him for assignment and subsequently non-tendered him in November. However, the Reds will give him a chance to make an impression, though Toglia will likely open the season in the minors.

Michael Toglia: Officially parts ways with Rockies
The Rockies non-tendered Toglia on Friday.
After finishing the 2024 season with a .767 OPS, Toglia's offensive production dropped dramatically in 2025, as he finished the year slashing .190/.258/.353 across 337 plate appearances. Most of the 27-year-old's struggles came on the road, as he posted just a .481 OPS across 178 plate appearances away from Coors Field, which doesn't exactly help his chances of finding regular big-league work with any of the other 29 clubs.

Rockies' Michael Toglia: DFA'd by Colorado
The Rockies designated Toglia for assignment Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Toglia looked like he was set to be Colorado's first baseman of the future heading into last season, when he opened as the team's primary first baseman. However, the 2019 first-round draft pick struggled mightily during his time in the majors, posting a .190/.258/.353 slash line with a 39.2 percent strikeout rate. While Toglia flashed big power with 25 homers across 457 plate appearances in 2024 and went deep 11 times across 42 games with Triple-A Albuquerque last season, his poor contact against major-league pitching ultimately led to his removal from the Rockies' 40-man roster.

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Homers in loss
Toglia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Guardians.
Toglia's lone hit of the night went deep to left field in the seventh. It was his first hit since July 18 and just his second home run since June 19. There's known power in Toglia's bat, but he has played himself out of a regular role at first base due to his cold hitting.

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Losing out on regular starts
Toglia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Toglia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Toglia will take a seat for the second time in the series while he's batting just .155/.231/.239 with a 39.7 percent strikeout rate over his last 20 games. Kyle Farmer will get the nod at first base Wednesday, and Toglia could soon be headed back to Triple-A Albuquerque if he's unable to cut down on the strikeouts in his future starts.

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Heading to bench Monday
Toglia is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.
Orlando Arcia will get the start at first base while Toglia exits the lineup for the first time since July 3. Since slugging his 10th home run of the season in a July 6 win over the White Sox, Toglia's production has tailed off at the plate. He's slashing just .125/.200/.188 with a pair of extra-base hits (both doubles) and a 40 percent strikeout rate over his last nine games.

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Breaks home run drought
Toglia went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Sunday against the White Sox.
Toglia had gone 13 starts since homering, but he ended that drought Sunday with a two-run blast in the fifth inning. Despite the lack of power, he's in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 7-for-23. Since being recalled June 16, Toglia has 10 RBI and five runs scored across 18 contests while hitting .250.
