  • Phillies' Cody Stashak: NRI deal with Philadelphia

The Phillies signed Stashak to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Stashak, 30, spent the 2024 season at Triple-A Sacramento in the Giants organization, posting a 5.45 ERA and 44:12 K:BB over 36.1 frames. The reliever made 55 appearances with the Twins from 2019-22, collecting a 4.13 ERA and 83:14 K:BB across 72 innings.

  • Giants' Cody Stashak: Inks minors deal with SF

Stashak signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Friday. After undergoing season-ending surgery in June 2022 to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Stashak found work with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and eventually worked his way back into the Giants' farm system for the final month of the 2023 campaign. He'll remain with the organization to begin 2024 in hopes of joining the big-league bullpen down the road. Stashak posted a 3.86 ERA and 0.98 WHIP through 16.1 innings with the Twins in 2022 before getting injured.

  • Cody Stashak: Finds work in indy ball

Stashak (shoulder) signed a contract Friday with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Presumably healthy again after undergoing surgery last June to address a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Stashak will head to the independent ranks to resume his career with the hopes of eventually earning a minor-league contract in affiliated ball before season's end. When healthy, Stashak was a serviceable relief arm over parts of four seasons in the majors with the Twins from 2019 through 2022, posting a 4.13 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 83:14 K:BB over 72 career innings.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Transferred to 60-day IL

Stashak (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. The Twins announced last week that Stashak will miss the rest of the season since he'll undergo surgery to repair a labrum in his right shoulder, so his move to the 60-day IL is simply procedural. He said that he hopes to be healthy by spring training in 2023 but is unlikely to be ready to return to game action until next May, per Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Requires season-ending surgery

Stashak will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Stashak was diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement when landing on the injured list May 22, but he received a second opinion this week that revealed a labrum tear. The right-hander will miss the rest of the 2022 season, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be ready to pitch in time for spring training in 2023. He made 11 relief appearances for the Twins this year and posted a 3.86 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 16.1 innings.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Earns win in relief

Stashak (1-0) earned the win, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and striking out a batter while allowing two hits in a 7-1 win Thursday over Detroit. Stashak entered the game when Bailey Ober (groin) left with two outs in the fourth inning. The righty has served as a long-relief option for the Twins this season, pitching more than one inning in three of four appearances. While his 4.50 ERA is a bit high, he has good peripheral stats with a 7:0 K:BB and 1.00 WHIP through six innings. The 27-year-old has not yet been used in any high leverage situations, and these victories are likely to be few and far between.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Activated from IL

Stashak (biceps) was activated from the 10-day IL on Saturday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Stashak missed Minnesota's first eight games with right biceps tendinitis. He made one rehab appearance with Low-A Fort Myers on Thursday against Jupiter, pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. He'll work in middle relief with the big club.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Heads out on rehab assignment

Stashak (biceps) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at High-A Fort Myers on Thursday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. Before opening the season on the injured list, Stashak didn't make any appearances during the Twins' Grapefruit League slate after March 26, so he may need to complete more than one outing in the minors before he's activated. In the aftermath of the Opening Day trade that sent closer Taylor Rogers to San Diego, Minnesota's late-inning ranks remain unsettled, but Stashak likely won't find himself near the top of the list for saves. In 15.2 innings with the big club in 2021, he posted a 6.89 ERA and 1.66 WHIP.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: IL move official

The Twins placed Stashak (biceps) on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Stashak's move to the IL was fully expected after he failed to make any Grapefruit League appearances after March 26 due to right biceps tendinitis. He's expected to continue his throwing program at the Twins' spring facility in Florida before eventually joining a minor-league affiliate for a rehab assignment.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Shifts to 60-day injured list

Stashak (back) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Stashak hit the injured list in early June with a back injury, an issue which is apparently serious enough to keep him out for at least two months. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the Twins to select Daniel Coulombe's contract.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Placed on injured list

The Twins placed Stashak on the major-league injured list with a back injury Wednesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Stashak presumably suffered the injury before being optioned to Triple-A on May 29. It's unclear how long he'll miss with the injury, and whether he'll be on the big-league roster or not once healthy.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Optioned to Triple-A

Stashak was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. Stashak was hit hard in Friday's series opener against the Royals and gave up two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three in two relief innings. The right-hander will now return to the Triple-A club after right-hander Juan Minaya's contract was selected.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Called up by Twins

The Twins called up Stashak to the big-league roster Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. The righty had been optioned to Triple-A after a three-run outing May 7, but he now returns to the Twins' bullpen. Stashak and Bailey Ober were both called up to fill the spots of Derek Law, who was DFA'd, and Shaun Anderson (quad), who was placed on the IL.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Optioned to Triple-A

Stashak was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Stashak had pitched relatively effectively during his most recent stint on the major-league roster, but he gave up three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three in one inning during Friday's win over the Tigers. He'll head to Triple-A St. Paul as part of a shuffle after right-hander Derek Law's contract was selected in a corresponding move.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Moves back to active roster

The Twins recalled Stashak from their alternate training site Sunday. Minnesota optioned Devin Smeltzer to its alternate site to make room in the bullpen for Stashak, who gave up four earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out 12 over his five innings with the Twins earlier this season.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Sent to alternate site

Stashak was sent to the alternate training site Thursday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Stashak's 12 strikeouts over five innings stand out, but he's also posted a 7.20 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in that span. Shaun Anderson will take his place in the bullpen.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Wins spot in bullpen

Stashak has won a spot on Minnesota's 26-man roster for Opening Day. Stashak threw a scoreless inning in Monday's spring outing, but otherwise had a rough spring with a 6.75 ERA and six strikeouts and three walks in eight innings. However, Stashak was productive with a 17:3 K:BB last season, improving his strikeout rate to 33 percent, albeit in a small sample of 15 innings. Stashak has mediocre fastball velocity (91.9 mph), but his pinpoint control and effective slider help keep hitters off balance. If he can maintain the improvements from a short 2020 season, Stashak's prominence in the Minnesota bullpen could rise.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Keeping hold on bullpen role

Stashak looks likely to win a bullpen job with Devin Smeltzer and Shaun Anderson optioned to the team's alternate training site, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. He threw a scoreless inning with a walk in Friday's spring training loss to Atlanta. Not that Stashak's spot in the bullpen was really in doubt, but the pitching staff is starting to come into focus. He got off to a slow start this spring and has a 7.20 ERA, albeit with four strikeouts in five innings. Stashak has mediocre velocity (91.9 mph fastball), but his pinpoint control and effective slider help keep hitters off balance. His 15.2 percent swinging-strike rate was 23rd best among all pitchers with 10 or more innings pitched last season. If he can maintain the improvements from a short 2020 season, Stashak's prominence in the Minnesota bullpen could rise.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Activated from injured list

Stashak (back) was activated off the injured list Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. Stashak will wind up missing nearly a month with lower-back inflammation. He posted a 3.86 ERA and a 10:2 K:BB in seven innings prior to suffering the injury. Devin Smeltzer was optioned in a corresponding move.

  • Twins' Cody Stashak: Bullpen coming soon

Stashak (back) is improving and is expected to throw a bullpen session soon, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Stashak has already served the minimum 10 days on the injured list, but his lower-back inflammation doesn't seem likely to keep him out for too much longer. The righty posted a 3.86 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and a 10:2 K:BB over seven innings prior to suffering the injury.
