Hess (elbow) made his second rehab appearance for High-A West Michigan on Tuesday, covering 1.2 innings while giving up three earned runs on four hits and striking out two.
Hess remains on Double-A Erie's 7-day injured list, but with two rehab appearances with West Michigan under his belt, he appears to be on the cusp of activation. The 26-year-old righty is making his way back from January 2022 Tommy John surgery.

Tigers' Zack Hess: Moves to 60-day IL
Rotowire
Hess (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list at Double-A Erie on Friday, Emily Waldon of The Athletic reports.
Hess was already ruled out for the 2022 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery in January, so the move to the 60-day IL was only a matter of time. The 25-year-old split last season between High-A West Michigan and Double-A Erie, and he finished with a 3.42 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 69:35 K:BB over 52.2 innings.

Tigers' Zack Hess: Recovering from Tommy John surgery
Rotowire
Hess won't pitch in 2022 after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in January, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Hess split time between High-A West Michigan and Double-A Erie in the Tigers organization this past season, compiling a 3.42 ERA and 69:35 K:BB in 52.2 innings out of the bullpen. The 24-year-old should be close to 100 percent for the start of spring training in 2023.

Tigers' Zack Hess: Competing for bullpen spot
Rotowire
Hess is among a handful of players competing for one of the Tigers' final bullpen spots this spring, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Hess was added to Detroit's 60-player pool last summer, but he never appeared in a game for the Tigers. The 24-year-old spent most of 2019 at Low-A West Michigan, so he will likely start the 2021 campaign in the minors with a chance to move up the organizational ladder.

The 23-year-old was added to the player pool less than a week ago, but he's now being removed with Tarik Skubal (undisclosed) reporting to camp. Hess spent most of 2019 at Low-A West Michigan and had a 2.57 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB across 21 innings.

Tigers' Zack Hess: Added to 60-man pool
Rotowire
Hess was added to the Tigers' 60-man player pool Wednesday, Emily Waldon of The Athletic reports.
Detroit had a few open spots on its 60-man roster, so the team added Hess, who pitched in rookie ball last season before finishing the year by making 16 appearances for Low-A West Michigan, where he turned in a 2.57 ERA across 21 innings. The 2019 seventh-round pick out of LSU should serve as organizational depth and has very little chance of appearing in the majors this year.
