  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Plans to run more with healthy knee

Winn has been sprinting for weeks and will not have any limitations with his surgically repaired right knee at the beginning of spring training, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Winn played through a slight meniscus tear in his knee for most of the 2025 season before eventually having surgery in late September. While he won his first Gold Glove, Winn's offensive production slipped, as he finished with just a .673 OPS, nine home runs and nine stolen bases. With his knee repaired, Winn plans to be more active on the basepaths in 2026, saying, "I want to be able to use that speed."

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Begins jogging after knee surgery

Winn has begun jogging and said the pain is gone in his surgically repaired right knee, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Winn -- who won his first National League Gold Glove on Sunday -- is just over a month removed from surgery to repair a torn meniscus and said he can already "really feel the difference" in the knee. The 23-year-old is expected to be ready to go for the start of spring training. Winn slashed a disappointing .253/.310/.363 with nine home runs and nine stolen bases across 537 plate appearances in 2025, though the downturn in his production can likely be blamed in part due to having to play through nagging soreness in his knee for several months.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Has successful surgery

Winn's surgery to repair a torn right meniscus was successful, and he's expected to be a full-go in time for spring training, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

The 23-year-old shortstop expects to be 100 percent by January. Winn played through the injury for several months before being shut down in mid-September. He slashed .253/.310/.363 with nine home runs and nine stolen bases across 537 plate appearances in 2025.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Knee surgery scheduled for Thursday

Winn will have a consultation Wednesday and then undergo arthroscopic surgery on the meniscus tear in his right knee Thursday in Dallas, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

More details regarding Winn's post-op rehab should be available following the operation, but the full expectation is that he will be 100 percent for the start of spring training. Winn played with the injury for several months before the decision was made in mid-September to shut him down. Thomas Saggese has been filling in at shortstop for the Cardinals since Winn was placed on the 10-day injured list.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Set for knee procedure

Winn is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery within the next two weeks to address a torn meniscus in his right knee, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Before Winn was placed on the injured list Saturday, manager Oliver Marmol confirmed that the slick-fielding shortstop won't take the field again in 2025 since he hadn't bounced back as well as the Cardinals had hoped while playing through the knee injury over the last several weeks. The surgery should help provide more permanent relief for the 23-year-old, who previously had a similar procedure on the same knee in high school, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Winn noted that after the previous surgery, he had resumed playing within three months, and the expectation is that he'll be available as a full participant for the start of spring training in February. Thomas Saggese has started each of the Cardinals' last five games at shortstop and is likely to serve as the primary option at the position for the remainder of the season.

  • Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Officially put on IL

Winn (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Winn was originally slated to start Friday's series opener against Milwaukee, but he was scratched before the start of the contest. The Cardinals subsequently decided to rule him out for the season since he hasn't recovered as well as hoped from a torn meniscus in his right knee. With Winn officially landing on the IL on Saturday, his big-league roster spot was filled by infielder Jose Fermin.
