Player Outlook
One of the breakout pitching prospects of the year, Caden Scarborough struck out 32 batters without allowing an earned run over his final 25 innings (five starts plus the final inning of a sixth start) to close the 2025 season. A 6-foot-5 righty whom the Rangers selected in the sixth round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Scarborough didn't pitch much prior to 2025 and turns 21 in April. He primarily leans on his plus mid-90s fastball and dastardly sweeper while occasionally mixing in his changeup. Scarborough is a great athlete with a prototypical starter's frame. In 11 starts from June 29 on, Scarborough logged a 0.57 ERA, 0.61 WHIP and 58:8 K:BB in 47.1 innings across Single-A and High-A. After logging a 17 percent walk rate in 10.1 innings in 2024, Scarborough had a 6.1 percent walk rate across 88 innings last season. Scarborough looks poised to finish 2026 as a top 10 pitching prospect in the game if he stays healthy.

  • Rangers' Caden Scarborough: Has melanoma removed

Scarborough underwent surgery earlier in February to remove a melanoma, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Scarborough reported to Rangers camp Thursday after recovering from the procedure, so he is a bit behind schedule. However, the 20-year-old will have a normal buildup from here on out and is expected to begin the minor-league season on time. Scarborough emerged as one of the Rangers' best pitching prospects in 2025, posting a 2.45 ERA and 114:21 K:BB over 88 innings between Single-A Hickory and High-A Hub City.
